  • We Have a Chronic Disease Epidemic Because Government Has Fattened Us Up

We Have a Chronic Disease Epidemic Because Government Has Fattened Us Up By Nina Teicholz, PhD December 25, 2024 Share No matter where you stand politically, the return of Donald Trump to the White House presents a chance to reshape America's approach to health and nutrition. His administration will have the opportunity to overhaul outdated federal dietary guidelines, which lack scientific rigor and have long contributed to our chronic disease epidemic. Every five years since 1980, the government has published its Dietary Guidelines for Americans, advising people to get 52 percent to 56 percent of their calories from grains and other Carbohydrate-rich foods, while largely avoiding the natural Saturated Fats found in Whole Milk, Butter, and Meat. Grain mixed with Skim Milk is a well-known formula for fattening pigs — and it turns out that it fattens humans, too. In 23 states, the adult obesity rate now meets or exceeds 35 percent. It's not just our collective waistlines that have expanded. Rates of nearly every chronic disease have soared in recent decades. More than half of adults have Diabetes or Prediabetes. Up to 10 percent of kids suffer from Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. Americans aren't growing fatter and sicker in spite of the government's dietary guidelines but because of them. Now is the time to reverse this trajectory. For more than a decade now, the most reputable scientific studies have shown that the government's dietary advice does not prevent or reduce Obesity, Cancer or other diseases. People who eat diets lower in Carbohydrates consistently achieve greater weight loss and have better overall heart health than people on the Lower-Fat Diet that the government recommends. Ultra-Low-Carb or "Ketogenic" Diets have even been shown to completely reverse Type 2 Diabetes without costly medications or patented meal replacement formulas. A large clinical trial found that nearly 56 percent of people with Type 2 Diabetes who adopted a Ketogenic Diet saw a reversal of the disease within 10 weeks while decreasing their medications. Despite the evidence, the government's dietary guidelines are stuck in 1980, having barely changed since the old "food pyramid." Remember that big bottom slab of the pyramid, telling us to eat a staggering six servings of grains daily, including three servings of refined grains? People took that advice to heart. Today, they're consuming far fewer Whole-Fat Foods and more Carbohydrate-laden items like Bread, Cereal, and Pasta than previous generations. Their reward for following the official advice? Americans are sicker than ever. The current guidelines have likely spawned a chronic disease crisis that has caused millions of premature deaths and accounts for the vast majority of America's $4.5 Trillion annual healthcare spending. As president, Trump should order the U.S. Department of Agriculture to implement recommendations made in a 2017 National Academies of Sciences report. This report warned that the guidelines process used a methodology that "lacks rigor" and listed 11 concrete steps to increase transparency and upgrade the scientific rigor of the guidelines process. Every word of the guidelines should be backed by randomized, controlled clinical trial results. During the last revision of the guidelines, the committee ignored about 20 review papers concluding that there is little or no reliable evidence for advising people to limit their saturated fat intake. The guidelines must also add an option for the roughly two-thirds of Americans with at least one chronic disease. Powerful special interests will resist. Decades of misinformation will need to be untangled. But with new leadership and momentum to "Make America Healthy Again," this is within reach. Nina Teicholz is a Science Journalist and Author with a Ph.D. in nutrition. This piece originally ran in The Hill. < Previous News Next News >

  • When The Heart Can't Keep Up: What To Know About Heart Failure | sun-times

When The Heart Can't Keep Up: What To Know About Heart Failure By Family Features Aug 6, 2026 For Decades, Heart Disease Has Been The Leading Cause Of Death In The United States, And Heart Failure Directly Accounts For About 8.5% Of All Heart Disease Deaths. In Fact, More Than 7.7 Million Americans Older Than 20 Are Currently Living With Heart Failure, According To The National Heart, Lung, And Blood Institute. That number is expected to exceed 8 million - about 3% of the population - by 2030, based on findings from the Heart Failure Society of America. Heart Failure happens when the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. This can occur as the heart becomes weak or stiff over time, making it more difficult to circulate blood effectively. In turn, the body may not get enough oxygen. Despite the name of the condition, the heart does not stop working when Heart Failure occurs. Instead, the heart is not keeping up with the body's demands and requires ongoing medical care. Heart Failure often develops gradually and is commonly linked to conditions such as High Blood Pressure, Diabetes or previous Heart Damage, and is the leading cause of hospitalization among older adults, according to the Heart Failure Society of America. Recognizing the Signs and Symptoms of Heart Failure In many people, Heart Failure does not begin with a dramatic warning. It starts with symptoms that people may dismiss as stress, aging or being out of shape. Common symptoms include: • Shortness of breath during activities • Trouble breathing when lying down • Swelling in the feet, ankles, legs or abdomen • Sudden weight gain from fluid buildup • Feeling fatigued or weak Symptoms can vary between males and females. Women are more likely to experience nausea, heart palpitations, digestive changes, sweating and generalized discomfort while men more commonly experience shortness of breath, chest pressure or swelling in the lower body. However, there can be significant overlap in symptoms between sexes. Heart Failure doesn't always present with "classic" symptoms, so nonspecific changes can easily be mistaken for other conditions. Any new or unexplained change in breathing, swelling, energy levels or daily function should be evaluated by a health care professional. How Heart Failure is Diagnosed Diagnosis typically begins with a medical history review and physical exam. Health care providers may listen to the heart and lungs with a stethoscope to detect abnormal rhythms or signs of fluid in the lungs. Additional testing helps confirm findings. An Echocardiogram shows how well the heart is pumping while an Electrocardiogram measures heart rhythm. Blood tests, stress tests and imaging may also be used to evaluate heart function. Routine medical checkups can also help detect changes in heart health early. This is especially important for people with risk factors such as High Blood Pressure, Diabetes or a family history of Heart Disease. Treating and Managing Heart Failure Although Heart Failure is a long-term condition, it can be managed with the right care. Treatment typically combines medical care with individually tailored lifestyle adjustments. Common approaches include: • Medications to help the heart pump more effectively, reduce fluid buildup and manage related conditions such as High Blood Pressure • Lifestyle changes which can include eating a balanced, lower-sodium diet; staying physically active; maintaining a healthy weight; and avoiding smoking • Medical procedures such as Coronary Angioplasty or Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery may be necessary to improve blood flow • Implanted devices like a Pacemaker or Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator can help regulate heart rhythm and support heart function • Advanced treatment options for more severe cases may require a heart transplant Because Heart Failure develops gradually, awareness is one of the most important tools for early detection. • The Graveyard of COVID-19 Missed Information

The Graveyard of COVID-19 Missed Information By Marilyn M. Singleton, MD, JD August 12, 2021 Share The CDC’s own analysis of COVID hospitalizations, showed that the risk of death while hospitalized, was 0.3% for patients with no comorbidities The British social hierarchy of the Middle Ages and beyond was divided into "three estates of the realm:" the king, the clergy and the commoners. More modern times, brought the fourth estate, the non-establishment, independent journalists. Our founders knew, that for a successful Democratic Republic, the press had to be a watchdog. Journalists now have become morticians, who embalm and bury stories at the bidding of their puppet masters. In many cases, the government with its media accomplices, quietly plucked from the public square information, that is not to their liking, irrespective of its factual accuracy. COVID-19 has brought the practice out of the shadows. With our health at stake, it is imperative that all sides of the science, are available. Let the people decide. Welcome to the cemetery. The PCR test used to diagnose an infection with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, was found to have as high as 97 percent of false positives for infectiousness, because the test was so sensitive, that it measured dead viruses that could not cause disease. Even the inscrutable Dr. Fauci, agreed with that assessment. After the Vaccines that were going to bring us back to the old normal, the CDC set strict rules for the testing of Vaccine "breakthrough" cases. It wanted "only specimens," that were collected with a PCR test, that was much less sensitive. Was this done to make the Vaccines look, more effective? It’s unlikely, anyone saw that the CDC, will soon abandon the PCR test. What a coincidence? A consortium backed by Bill Gates, bought out Mologic, a company with a yet-to-be-approved COVID test. Then there’s a CDC analysis, of infections and mask-wearing. "In the 14 days before the illness onset, 71 percent of case-patients and 74 percent of control participants, reported always using cloth face coverings or other mask types when in public." Only 4 percent of the case-patients "never" wore a mask. The explanation was that the masked case-patients, frequented restaurants and got infected, when they removed their masks to eat. The mainstream reporting of COVID-19 deaths is sensationalism, at its worst. The newscasts implied any infected person, would surely be on death’s door, at some point. Again, the CDC’s own analysis of COVID hospitalizations, showed that the risk of death while hospitalized, was 0.3% for patients with no comorbidities. The analysis showed that the strongest risk factors were obesity, Diabetes with a complication and anxiety disorders. Yet, we did not hear that we should lose weight and exercise. (How unfortunate, that the gyms were closed.) Our mental health was tested, by lockdowns and lack of socialization. Even French Virologist and Nobel Prize Winner, Luc Montagnier, was ghosted, when he posited that mass Vaccination against The SARS-CoV-2 Virus, during the Pandemic, was creating variants. His science appears to have been borne out. The CDC reported an outbreak in Massachusetts, where 90 percent of SARS-CoV-2 Infections were identified as the Delta variant. Moreover, 74 percent of the infected, were fully vaccinated. There are similar findings, in the United Kingdom and Israel. In another instance, 75 to 80 percent of recently infected Staff Members at two University of California, San Francisco hospitals were fully Vaccinated. The most devastating missed information, is the effectiveness of early treatment of COVID-19. Since February 2020, clinicians had successfully treated patients, early in the disease process with Hydroxychloroquine. A campaign to discredit these successes, has followed. When Dr. Fauci’s pet drug, Remdesivir was found to be ineffective, the media buried the study. Despite studies showing its benefits, Ivermectin and The Hydroxychloroquine Smear Treatments were given. Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin, are fully FDA-Approved, have a long record of safety and remain on the World Health Organization's List Of Essential Medicines. What’s the problem? They are very inexpensive and are generics. With early treatment sidelined, the experimental Vaccines became the Panacea. But why are we expected to ignore the RNA Vaccines’ role, in encouraging variants and serious side effects, such as heart inflammation, paralysis and death? Could money be a motivator? Pfizer reports, that it will have $33.5 Billion from COVID-19 Vaccine sales, in 2021, with even more revenue, being anticipated, from the Booster Shots. Was the Drug And Health Product Manufacturers’ $171 Million given to lobbyists in the last 6 months, be intended to ensure the government’s cooperation and are the pharmaceutical companies the Fifth Estate? The politicians’ hypocrisy says it all. In their personal lives, Nancy Pelosi and her nephew, California’s Governor Newsom, flaunt their own directives, being mask-less getting haircuts, going to fancy dinners and sending their children, to summer camps? More galling is, the "let them eat their cake," attitude in their political lives. Newsom demands, that all state workers, except the powerful prison guards union, get vaccinated or submit to continuous COVID-19 Tests. Pelosi commands her subjects, aka congresspeople, to don masks, subject to fines and arrests, for noncompliance. Her majesty, removes her mask for a photo op, so, how can anyone trust anything, these soulless, grifters have to say? Do some digging. The truth is out there. < Previous News Next News >

  • Can Money Buy Happiness? More Than Half Of Americans Say Yes In New Study

Can Money Buy Happiness? More Than Half Of Americans Say Yes In New Study By BPT January 11, 2024 Share How much money would make you happy? According to the average American, the price tag comes in around $1.2 Million. New research from Empower, a leader in financial planning, investing and advice, reveals 6 in 10 Americans believe money can buy happiness, though just 17% say financial contentment is about reaching a certain net worth. It turns out that a little goes a long way and incremental financial wins can make a massive impact on Americans' Well-Being. "Every generation has grappled with questions of how to calculate financial happiness: hard work, a lot of planning, consistent savings, and even a little bit of luck, in just the right measures," says Carol Waddell, President of Empower Personal Wealth. "A spirit of financial confidence prevails, with 7 in 10 saying they have clear financial goals and Americans continue to envision a bright future." The Financials Of Happiness While the study found that 7 in 10 Americans (71%) believe more money would solve most of their problems, for a third (32%) a relatively attainable gain of $15,000 would make a meaningful impact in their lives, boosting their feeling of financial happiness for six months. That number surges to 42% with a $25,000 gain, and just $5,000 would do it for 17%. Indeed, happiness manifests in big and small ways. The majority of Americans say it's on-time bill payment (67%) and living Debt-Free (65%), while roughly half say it's the ability to afford small luxuries without guilt (54%) and home ownership (45%). Over half say their contentment can be found in spending on experiences with those they cherish (53%) and in optimism for what's next, including retiring on their own terms (37%). Readying for Retirement: Nearly three-quarters of Americans (73%) say they're currently experiencing Financial Stress, with today's Economic Pressures like inflation (81%), rising interest rates (66%) and student loans (32%) dampening their sense of prosperity. Half report carrying Debt (54% overall, and 72% of Gen X) and nearly 4 in 10 (36%) say that they couldn't handle an unforeseen expense over $500 without real worry. In the current financial environment, Americans now expect to retire three years later, at age 63. Those with a less detailed financial plan (or no plan at all) don't expect to clock out until age 70, five years later than planned. For about 4 in 10 Americans (37%), and exactly half of Gen Xers, retiring by a certain age is the meaning of financial happiness. The majority (84%) are taking steps to reach this target, including putting more money into Retirement Savings (39%), Short-Term Savings like a High-Yield Account (31%), and working with a Financial Advisor (26%). A quarter of savers (25%) are paying off debt more aggressively than they would otherwise and 22% are delaying a major purchase like a car. The Power Of Planning The majority of Americans (73%) say a solid financial plan would bring them happiness, and they would like help to get there: 57% of Americans wish they would have gotten advice sooner. Nearly half of Americans (45%) say they haven't gotten the financial advice they need, including 55% of Gen Zers and 57% of Millennials. But those who already have a plan are proof of its power: Americans with a more detailed financial plan are three times as likely as those with a less detailed plan to report greater happiness around financial freedom (75% versus 24%), their plans to achieve financial goals (78% versus 23%), and the overall state of their finances, such as their net worth and debt balances (73% versus 19%). "The financial professionals at Empower combine the power of advice with technology to help Americans get on the path to financial freedom," explains Waddell. "With their financial goals in mind and a solid plan to reach them, savers can spend more time doing the things that make them happy - in their working years and beyond."
