MISSION United Launches - Backpack Broward Drive To Support Children Of Military Families

United Way Of Broward County’s MISSION UNITED Is Calling On The Community To Support Local Military And Veteran Families By Donating School Supplies For Children In Need. The Items Will Be Distributed In Brand-New Backpacks To School-Aged Children Of Veterans And Active-Duty Service Members Just In Time For The New School Year.

Now through Wednesday July 23rd, 2025 community members can participate in two impactful ways:

Make a financial gift – A $75 donation pays for a fully stocked backpack filled with essential school supplies and hygiene items.

Donate filled backpacks – Individuals and organizations are encouraged to purchase and fill backpacks with supplies and drop them off at United Way of Broward County’s Ansin Building, located at 1300 South Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33316.

“MISSION UNITED is proud to serve those who served us, and that includes supporting their families,” said James Heaton, Vice President of United Way of Broward County’s MISSION UNITED. “Providing school supplies is a simple yet powerful way to show gratitude to our military families and ensure their children are ready to thrive in the classroom.”

This effort is part of Backpack Broward, an annual campaign aimed at ensuring children start the school year with the tools they need to succeed. The items needed include notebooks, pencils, crayons, scissors, wipes, tissues, and more.
