Help Control Invasive Iguanas In The City Of Hollywood

Green Iguanas Have Become A Growing Problem Throughout South Florida, Including The City Of Hollywood. As An Invasive Species, They Can Damage Seawalls, Docks, Sidewalks, Landscaping, And Other Property. They Also Burrow Beneath Structures, Creating Safety Concerns, And Compete With Native Wildlife For Habitat.
In response to the growing iguana population and an increase in resident complaints, the City of Hollywood has contracted with a licensed wildlife trapping company to humanely remove iguanas from City-owned properties, parks, rights-of-way, and other public areas. This proactive effort helps protect public infrastructure, improve safety, and reduce the impact of invasive wildlife throughout the community.
Private property owners are also encouraged to take steps to help control the invasive population. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission recommends making properties less attractive to iguanas by removing food sources, eliminating potential nesting areas, filling burrows, and using humane trapping or removal methods when appropriate.
Residents may notice licensed wildlife trappers working throughout Hollywood. Trappers contracted by the City can be identified by bright orange shirts marked "Wildlife Trapper" and are authorized to conduct removal activities on public property.
