Get Ready For King Tides

With seven miles of shoreline, 7.9 miles of canals and flat topography, Hollywood is particularly vulnerable to the effects of sea level rise and tidal flooding.

Based on National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) tide predictions, above-average high tides are expected during the following periods:

• September 9-13

• September 26-October 1

• October 7-13

• October 24-31

• November 5-11

• November 22-28

• December 5-8

The seasonal peak is currently expected around October 27th. Actual tide elevations may be higher than predicted depending on conditions including wind, rainfall and sea surface temperatures.

High seasonal tides can cause flooding along coastal roads and in low-lying neighborhoods, parking lots and docks. Water levels may rise by more than two and a half feet during high tide. Motorists are urged to use caution, avoid driving through flooded streets and seek alternate routes when necessary.

The City continues to implement short- and long-term solutions to minimize the impacts of tidal flooding. Flap gates have been installed within the stormwater system to help prevent tidal water from flowing back through storm drains. Auxiliary pumps are also stationed in high-risk areas to help clear flooded streets as quickly as possible.

Enhanced Weekly Tidal Forecasts Available

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), in partnership with the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science, now provides enhanced, locally customized tide predictions based on NOAA forecasts.

The enhanced forecasts account for factors including sea level rise, weather conditions, wind speed and direction, sea surface temperature and swell energy to provide a more complete picture of potential tidal conditions. Automated King Tide forecasts are available through SFWMD’s Resilience Metrics Hub for seven tidal stations across South Florida, including Port Everglades.

Residents can also subscribe to SFWMD’s Weekly Tidal Outlook Forecast by visiting the District’s email subscription page and selecting “King Tide Forecast.”

Make a Difference in Your Neighborhood

Residents can also help reduce localized flooding by adopting a catch basin in their neighborhood. City crews work to maintain more than 157 miles of underground stormwater piping and approximately 4,900 catch basins throughout Hollywood. Through the Adopt a Catch Basin program, residents can help by checking an adopted basin at least once a month, clearing leaves and other debris as needed and submitting proof of their efforts to earn points toward rewards.

Residents can further help keep storm drains clear by placing coconuts in their garbage carts for collection and properly disposing of lawn clippings and yard waste rather than allowing debris to enter the stormwater system. 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at Fire Station 31

Hollywood Fire Rescue will host its annual 9/11 Ceremony from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 11th, 2026 at Fire Station 31, 3401 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, Florida 33021. The ceremony will honor the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, recognize the bravery and sacrifice of first responders, and reflect on the enduring spirit of service inspired by the events of that day. Parking will be available at the David Park Community Center, 108 North 33rd Court, Hollywood, Florida 33021.
