Free Reggae Concert This Sunday at the ArtsPark: Hollywood ArtsPark Experience: Third World February 3, 2022 Share Head out to the ArtsPark at Young Circle in Downtown Hollywood on Sunday for a Reggae concert featuring Third World. Celebrating 47 years, Third World is one of the longest-lived Reggae bands of all time, and one of Jamaica’s most consistently popular crossover acts among international audiences. Mixing in elements of R&B, funk, pop, and rock and, later on, dancehall and rap, Third World’s style has been described as “reggae-fusion.” With nine Grammy nominations and catalogue of charted smash hits, including (“Now That We Found Love”, ”96 Degrees in the Shade” and “Try Jah Love”), spanning over four decades, the group is holding firm to the cultural and ancestral roots of its members and still pushes forward the cutting edge of music worldwide. Hadassah Reopens Key Spaces - At Its Youth Villages In Israel Following Extensive Renovations By Linda Chase - Jewish Connection News Jan 7, 2025 Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America, has reopened two facilities at its youth villages in Israel, which serve vulnerable teens and pre-teens, following extensive renovations. The psychological therapy center at Hadassah’s Meir Shfeyah youth village, near Haifa, will now be known as the Ellen Hershkin Therapeutic Center in honor of Hadassah’s 26th national president, who led the organization from 2016 to 2019. At the Hadassah Neurim youth village, near Netanya, the spacious, redesigned emergency shelter will serve as a secure space and command center during emergencies and a leisure and activity space year-round. The renovations were made possible by more than $500,000 from Hadassah’s crisis-response fundraising efforts following the October 7 attacks. The youth villages, which are home to almost 700 students and 200 staff members, are supported by Hadassah’s Youth Aliyah program. Ellen Hershkin Therapeutic Center at Meir Shfeyah Youth Village The Ellen Hershkin Therapeutic Center offers Meir Shfeyah’s residents a welcoming environment where they can meet with social workers and therapists. The renovation is especially timely given the increasing number of residents experiencing trauma due to the October 7th invasion and the subsequent war. While the Center is located on the first floor of the Meir Shfeyah administration building, the renovation encompassed the building’s entire exterior and interior. “I’m humbled to see my name on an edifice that exists solely to be a safe haven for our young residents,” said past Hershkin. “Children are a country’s greatest resource and nurturing them, which Hadassah does in partnership with many, many talented and dedicated professionals, donors and volunteers, is more than a mitzvah. It is holy work.” As part of the ceremony, Hershkin and Inessa Shlomov, the mother of Meir Shfeyah graduate Simon Shlomov, who was killed in February while serving with the IDF, affixed a mezuzah to the entrance to the Center. Emergency Shelter at Hadassah Neurim Youth Village The almost 4,000-square-foot shelter on the campus of Hadassah Neurim has been upgraded and outfitted to protect students and faculty from attack while providing a year-round leisure and activity space. The shelter now offers four large rooms – a Yoga-Pilates-dance studio, a movie theater, a student leadership room and a staff room – as well as two kitchens and two bathrooms. A nurse’s station is available for emergencies and the staff room has been set up to function as a command center in a crisis. During the dedication ceremony, which honored Hadassah Neurim graduates and family members killed on or since October 7th, those assembled lit memorial candles and recited a prayer for fallen IDF soldiers. On view through Sunday, October 1st, 2023, “Lonnie Holley: If You Really Knew” invites visitors to experience the work of Prolific Artist Lonnie Holley in his first major exhibition in the South. Also on view is the “South Florida Cultural Consortium” (SFCC) Exhibition which showcases the work of 12 intergenerational South Florida artists. “Lonnie Holley: If You Really Knew” provides an intimate and focused look at the career of Birmingham, Alabama-born Artist and Musician Lonnie Holley. The Exhibition, curated by MOCA Curator Adeze Wilford, features 70 works including foundational “sandstone” sculptures, new works on paper and large-scale quilt paintings that depict faces. Known for his unique style of art that draws inspiration from his life experiences, Holley often incorporates found objects and everyday materials, which he transforms into thought-provoking art. Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation Presents Annual Moral Courage Awards, Honors Ousmane Diallo's Legacy At Yankee Stadium Jewish Connection News Sep 10, 2026 The Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation (AJCF) Presented Its Annual Moral Courage Awards At Yankee Stadium On Sunday, Recognizing Five Individuals For Confronting Antisemitism And Hate And Posthumously Honoring Ousmane Diallo, The 24-Year-Old Harlem Legislative Director Whose Brief Life Was Marked By Public Service And Bridge-Building. The honorees were Rachel Amar, Co-Founder of MODA; Gil Cygler, Board Member of AJCF; Moshe Kinderlehrer, Co-Founder and Co-Publisher of The Jewish Link; Rebecca Sassouni, Of Counsel at Wisselman Harounian Family Law; and Lisa “Malkie” Vider, Operator and Administrator of Oceanview Manor Home for Adults. Diallo served as Legislative Director for New York State Assembly Member Al Taylor (D-Harlem) and died on July 18. His family accepted the posthumous award. A lifelong Harlemite and longtime youth leader with the National Action Network, Diallo devoted himself to public service and youth empowerment. At the time of his death, he was participating in a JCRC-NY Fellowship focused on strengthening relationships between Muslim and Jewish New Yorkers. At the event, Assembly Member Landon Dais (D-Bronx) announced his commitment to allocate a six-figure Capital Grant to support the Infrastructure needed to expand Decode Hate to schools across New York State. During the 2025–2026 academic year, Decode Hate reached more than 25,000 New York City public school students across all five boroughs through a partnership among AJCF, the New York City Council and New York City Public Schools. AJCF plans to begin expanding the program statewide during the 2026–2027 academic year due to the support of the NYS Assembly, NYS Senate and Governor Hochul. Decode Hate combines Holocaust and antisemitism education, digital literacy and civic responsibility. Teacher-led advance and follow-up lessons accompany interactive workshops conducted by trained AJCF facilitators, helping students identify and confront antisemitism, racism, misinformation and online hate. “The Holocaust and slavery are among the darkest chapters in human history. Education helps us understand that pain and stand together against hatred today,” said Assembly Member Dais. “Ousmane dedicated his life to serving Harlem and building bridges between Muslim and Jewish communities.
