- Holiday Traditions Are Back in Hallandale Beach
Holiday Traditions Are Back in Hallandale Beach Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper December 22, 2022 Share Happy Hanukkah! For years our City had always done Menorah lighting. Sadly, the tradition had stopped. After I was reinstated the COVID-19 Pandemic struck the world and no one was gathering in large groups. This coupled with no budgeting of holiday lights really put a damper on the Holiday Spirit around town. Thanks to Vice Mayor Taub, Commissioner Lazarow and the entire commission the tradition has started again. In addition to placing a Menorah and Manger Scene in front of City Hall last Thursday, on Monday Rabbi Mendy Tennenhaus, Rabbi Miller and others held the lighting of the candles. Along with them were the young students from Chaya Aydel Seminary. This seminary led by Rabbis Yossi Lobovics provides Torah education and many other classes to prepare young women with life skills in Chassedishe. They also prepare them to continue on to college with classes that offer college credit. It is always wonderful meeting these young ladies that come from around the globe. They stay in dorms around our city. In addition to studies, they do many acts of Tzedakah, giving to many needy residents here in Hallandale Beach. They also go around to visit many other homes and local Chabads to learn about our culture. The Cantor sings his beautiful blessing over the candles, National Anthem and the Israeli National Anthem. While I could not be there, I was sent pictures and heard it was once again a wonderful event. In this day and age with the sharp rise in Antisemitism it is so important we learn about all religions and support the free practice of them without hatred. As my husband Dr Cooper always says, “Everyone should be able to practice whatever they want but religion should never be a reason or tool to attack another person.” I believe that the super majority of society believes this. Let us join in celebrating with hopes the bright light of the Menorah continues to shine peace and love throughout the year. A special thank you goes to Vice Mayor Taub for joining with me to provide jelly donuts, a Hanukkah Tradition, and representing our Commission. Another tradition was held last week at the OB Johnson Field. Amsterdam Restaurant and Nightclub once again helped to host the after-school holiday show. This year's Theme was ”International Holidays." Each class participated with a song, dance, or poem. The school also partners with Dreamer Makers, a non-profit that teaches performing arts. Amsterdam provided toys, bounce houses and food trucks for parents and students to enjoy after the show. They also had a visit from Santa. For the past few years some residents in the Palms section of our City have been complaining about the opening of the large football field for free play at OB Johnson. The football field there is used by PAL, Hallandale High School and those that want to rent it out. Residents can enter the OB Johnson office to have staff open the field up to 6 PM or dusk. The logic of not having it totally open was twofold. We did not want the field damaged, which would not only cost money but interfere with planned games. The other reason is liability. It is one thing for a parent and child to have a catch or kick around the ball but is quite different for coaches to come and do practice without proof of insurance. After discussing the issue with the City Manager and Parks Director it has been decided not to require kids to request a key. The park, like others, will be open till dusk. There are lights on the field, but we do not want to create an unsafe environment after hours unless there is a planned permitted activity. If coaches want to provide training, they will need to go through PAL or file a permit with proof of insurance to have the park open and lights to be on. As many are celebrating Hanukkah and preparing for Christmas, I want to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season. Please remember to support our local shops and restaurants around town. Also, it is the perfect time to be kind. Kindness and a smile do not cost a dime but can mean the world to those that may be suffering. Be on the lookout for the Rotary Santa Sled that will be out touring Christmas Eve. As always, I am available for your questions, concerns, and ideas to help make our City a better place. - Chanukah Sandwich
Chanukah Sandwich By Rabbi Moishe Kievman Chabad Chayil November 25, 2021 Share Chanukah, which is known as the Festival of Lights, begins this year on the evening of Sunday, November 28th, 2021 Sandwiched between Thanksgiving and Chanukah, we have a day that will be the cream of the cookie! Allow me to explain. Thanksgiving is all about thanking God for all of the things he’s constantly blessing us with. Chanukah is known for the miracle of the Menorah that took place in the Temple, but the holiday was called Chanukah from the word Chanukat Habayit (lit Dedication of House), because it was the rededication of the Temple, after being occupied by the Greeks. Chanukah also comes from the word Chinuch, which means education. During this holiday we are supposed to gather our families together and educate our children and ourselves, about the miracles done for us on a constant basis. Together with recalling the original Chanukah miracles, we remind our families about the personal family stories that we each have, that brought us to where we are today. It’s by no coincidence then, that the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Chabad Educational Center is scheduled for Sunday, November 28th, sandwiched by Thanksgiving & Chanukah! Chanukah (Hanukkah or Hanuka), which is known as the Festival of Lights, begins this year on the evening of Sunday, November 28th, 2021 and concludes the evening of Monday, December 6th. It recalls the victory of a militarily weak Jewish people who defeated the Syrian Greeks who had overrun ancient Israel and sought to impose restrictions on the Jewish way of life and prohibit religious freedom. They also desecrated and defiled the Temple and the oils prepared for the lighting of the Menorah, which was part of the daily service. Upon recapturing the Temple only one jar of undefiled oil was found, enough to burn only one day, but it lasted miraculously for eight. In commemoration, Jews celebrate Chanukah for eight days by lighting an eight-branched candelabrum known as a Menorah. Today, people of all faiths consider the holiday a symbol and message of the triumph of freedom over oppression, of spirit over matter, of light over darkness. Additional information about the holiday is available at: https://www.chabadchayil.org/holidays/default_cdo/jewish/holidays.htm This year’s Menorah lighting is done with the recognition of the crucial need for a message of hope during a time that is so difficult for so many. The Menorah serves as a symbol of light and hope for us today amidst the challenges of the Pandemic, as it did for generations before us. The flames of the Menorah shine out into the night, reminding us that even when confronted with much darkness, a tiny light can dispel it all. An additional act of goodness and kindness, another act of light, can make all of the difference. Uniquely, at the core of Chanuka’s observance is sharing the light with others who may not be experiencing it. What better time or place to celebrate, than at the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Chabad Educational Center in North Dade? The free family-friendly event will begin at 2:30 p.m. with an Obstacle Course, Laser Tag, Bounce House and other fun activities, with the groundbreaking taking place at 4:30 p.m., followed by the Menorah Lighting and free fresh donuts at 5:30 p.m. There will also be a food court, holiday boutique with music and lots of surprises throughout the day. As a family man who is deeply involved in the community, I must say that there is no better way to spend that Sunday. Adults and children alike, are welcomed to join the many dignitaries and community leaders for an enjoyable and a meaningfully fun time for everyone. To ensure everyone is safe, the day’s events will all take place outdoors, with enough room for participants to be socially distanced. The event will also be broadcast live via: JewishFlorida.news so that anyone who can’t make it to the actual event, can still share in the celebration from the safety of their home. This year, Chabad-organized Menorah parades will see over 7,000 Chanukah Menorah-topped cars hit the road, bringing the Chanukah message of hope and joy through the city and into residential neighborhoods, allowing families to safely share the joy and light of Chanukah with pride. Chabad centers worldwide have prepared over 32 million Chanukah candles, more than 700,000 Menorah kits and 2.5 million holiday guides in 17 languages. Throughout the State of Florida, Chabad will be organizing scores of giant menorah displays of all sorts, including a grand celebration with the Miami Heat at the FTX Arena on December 1st (Tickets available at https://www.chabadchayil.org/templates/articlecco_cdo/aid/5313668/jewish/JHN-HEAT-Game.htm ). To find a local event here in Florida, or anywhere throughout the world, visit the international Chanukah event directory at: https://www.chabadchayil.org/holidays/chanukah/default_cdo/jewish/Hanukkah.htm Large display Menorahs are available at many online sources and can still get to you in time for the holiday. If you need a Menorah, candles for yourself, or need any help celebrating the holiday or finding a large Menorah to display at your place of work, please call your local Chabad or my office at: (305) 770-1919. We can also help you plan your own Chanukah event, Menorah lighting or Latke party. We wish you and your family a very happy Chaunkah. - Fox Vein & Laser Experts: Dr. Susan B. Fox, D.O., RPVI, FSVM Is Board Certified
Fox Vein & Laser Experts: Dr. Susan B. Fox, D.O., RPVI, FSVM Is Board Certified July 8, 2021 Share For years, Fox Vein and Laser Experts has been at the forefront of vein therapy and laser procedures. Around five years ago, Dr. Fox expanded the practice to include many non-invasive cutting-edge procedures such as microneedling, tattoo removal, hydrofacials, PRP, hair restoration, skin rejuvenation, peels, lasers and so much more. Fox Vein & Laser Experts has been an industry leader through the years, with the best equipment and services offered. In recent times, the practice has expanded, now offering even more cutting-edge treatments. They are one of the first practices in the United States to offer Physiq and Virtue RF, two machines by Cartessa Aesthetics that provide FDA-approved, safe and non-invasive treatments that require little to no down time, aimed to help you look your very best. Physiq is the best in non-invasive body treatments to rid you of those hard-to-treat areas that weight loss and diet leave untouched. This new state-of-the-art machine uses four pads to treat multiple areas of the body at once, resulting in a leaner, more sleek and toned physique. This pain-free treatment is highly effective and has no down-time, unlike plastic surgery procedures like tummy tucks and liposuction. No anesthetic is necessary, and it is extremely effective and affordable. Many other body contouring machines in the industry are extremely uncomfortable and do not always have the best results. Physiq is the first to use STEP technology (Sequential Thermal and Electrical Pulse) muscle stimulation with laser lipolysis in a sequential manner with contact cooling. The patient can actually control the energy and comfort level themselves, which is the main reason why the procedure is relatively pain-free and requires no down time. It can treat multiple body parts at once, including the inner thighs, buttocks, abdominals and flanks, just to name a few. The machine, made for Cartessa by Europe’s leading laser manufacturer, Deka, is already being hailed as the newest and best in body contouring, and will quickly become an industry leader. Experts recommend five sessions, each spaced one week apart, for optimal results. The treatment sessions are faster and more comfortable than other body contouring machines. Fox Vein & Laser Experts is now offering Physiq at its Hollywood location. Fox Vein & Laser Experts is also one of the first in the country to offer the Virtue RF. This machine takes microneedling to a whole new level. It is faster, more customizable, and less painful than its predecessors. This machine uses 36 gold coated needles at one of three treatment speeds with robotic precision delivery to provide the best microneedling radiofrequency treatment in the industry. It provides immediate results with little to no down time. The results improve over time as your body continues to build collagen and elastin to improve your appearance. It is used to shrink pore size, help skin laxity, improve fine lines and wrinkles, build collagen and elastin, improve scars, especially those caused by acne, and help improve the appearance of stretch marks. It can also be used with PRP or a proprietary stem cell system to help with hair loss. Only the Virtue RF pairs the treatment with LED red or blue light to help with acne or signs of aging. The facial treatments can be followed by a microcurrent dual face mask system by Franz Skincare. This mask uses ion currents and patented Tissue X technology to transport the nourishing substances deeper into the dermis where they help the most. The other amazing aspect of the Virtue machine is the ability to completely turn off the radiofrequency if desired. This is very helpful when we are microneedling for hair loss or on patients who have defibrillators or pacemakers. These FDA-approved machines are at the forefront of new and innovative less invasive, less painful treatment options that help you look your best for years to come. Fox Vein & Laser Experts also offers the best in tattoo removal, using Picoway by Candela. In those cases where someone may regret getting a tattoo, hope is not lost. This machine is the best tattoo removal laser on the market. It can also be used to treat benign pigmented lesions, discolorations, scars and more. The laser uses Picosecond pulses of light in various wavelengths and vibrational energy to remove the ink or benign pigmented lesions. It comes in various wavelengths to adequately treat various colors of ink and melanin on any color skin. The photo-acoustic effect minimizes the injury to the skin and tissues to just the lesion or area being treated. Tattoos and discolorations can be removed faster and with less pain than older treatments. In addition to tattoo removal, the laser can also be used for skin rejuvenation. It has a separate hand piece, known as Resolve by Picoway, which can help with fine lines and wrinkles, as well as signs of aging like darkening and age spots. The laser also helps refine tummy tuck scars, breast scars and facial scars. “We originally added the Picoway to help people rid themselves of discoloration related to their vein issues, but we use it for so much more,” said Dr. Fox. Aside from vein procedures, Fox Vein & Laser Experts also performs hair restoration with microneedling and PRP or stem cell serums. They have been a primary center in a hair regrowth trial using microneedling and AnteAge stem cell serums. The Virtue RF microneedling machine makes 36 micro-holes in the scalp with each pass. These channels allow the PRP and stem cells to be better absorbed in the areas that it is needed. Fox Vein & Laser Experts is completing a funded study of hair restoration, and so far, have seen amazing results. The patients have noticed thicker hair, even after the first few treatments. The study was designed as a six-month trial, with patients coming in every two weeks for three months, then only once monthly. In between visits, the patients are instructed to use a hair care formula by AnteAge at home. Before and after photos have been taken, which visually show the success rate. “Many people have struggled with thinning hair and hair loss from stress, aging, medications, Covid-19, illness, etc., and this has been so helpful," said Dr. Fox. Fox Vein & Laser Experts also has a full-time aesthetician on staff, Samantha. She has experience providing peels, facials, and laser hair removal for more than a decade. She performs all types of cutting-edge facials, peels, jelly masks, hydrofacials, aquagold and more. Samantha is here to help make your skin look and feel youthful and amazing, regardless of your age. Whatever your skin and body goals, Samantha can help you achieve them. An Evening With Gary Shteyngart And Mitchell Kaplan - Bestelling Author Gary Shteyngart Shares His "Completely Delightful" New Novel VERA, OR FAITH Jewish Connection News Jul 9, 2025 The Books & Books Literary Foundation Is Proud To Present An Evening With Gary Shteyngart On July 16th, 2025 - 7:00-8:00 p.m., Discussing Vera, Or Faith: A Novel (Random House, $28). He Will Be In Conversation With Mitchell Kaplan. A Poignant, Sharp-Eyed, And Bitterly Funny Tale Of A Family Struggling To Stay Together In A Country Rapidly Coming Apart, Told Through The Eyes Of Their Wondrous Ten-Year-Old Daughter, By The Bestselling Author Of Super Sad True Love Story And Our Country Friends. About the Book A poignant, sharp-eyed, and bitterly funny tale of a family struggling to stay together in a country rapidly coming apart, told through the eyes of their wondrous ten-year-old daughter, by the bestselling author of Super Sad True Love Story and Our Country Friends “A novel you can read in one sitting that will stay with you forever.”—Karen Russell “Very funny, very sad, very sharp, and completely delightful.”—Elif Batuman A Washington Post and Literary Hub Most Anticipated Book of 2025 The Bradford-Shmulkin family is falling apart. A very modern blend of Russian, Jewish, Korean, and New England WASP, they love one another deeply but the pressures of life in an unstable America are fraying their bonds. There's Daddy, a struggling, cash-thirsty editor whose Russian heritage gives him a surprising new currency in the upside-down world of twenty-first-century geopolitics; his wife, Anne Mom, a progressive, underfunded blue blood from Boston who's barely holding the household together; their son, Dylan, whose blond hair and Mayflower lineage provide him pride of place in the newly forming American political order; and, above all, the young Vera, half-Jewish, half-Korean, and wholly original. Observant, sensitive, and always writing down new vocabulary words, Vera wants only three things in life: to make a friend at school; Daddy and Anne Mom to stay together; and to meet her birth mother, Mom Mom, who will at last tell Vera the secret of who she really is and how to ensure love's survival in this great, mad, imploding world. Both biting and deeply moving, Vera, or Faith is a boldly imagined story of family and country told through the clear and tender eyes of a child. With a nod to What Maisie Knew, Henry James's classic story of parents, children, and the dark ironies of a rapidly transforming society, Vera, or Faith demonstrates why Shteyngart is, in the words of The New York Times, "one of his generation's most exhilarating writers." About the Author Gary Shteyngart was born in Leningrad in 1972 and came to the United States seven years later. His debut novel, The Russian Debutante’s Handbook, won the Stephen Crane Award for First Fiction and the National Jewish Book Award for Fiction. - Police Department Deploys Drone As First Responder Program | sun-times
Police Department Deploys Drone As First Responder Program By www.sibfl.gov Sep 5, 2025 The City Of Sunny Isles Beach Police Department Is Proud To Announce That It Is The First Law Enforcement Agency In The State Of Florida To Implement A Fully Operational, Non-Beta Drone As First Responder (DFR) Program In Partnership With Skydio And Axon – Leaders In Autonomous Drone And Public Safety Technology. Through this cutting-edge program, the Department is deploying NDAA-compliant American-made Skydio X10 drones to enhance emergency response and improve situational awareness in real time. In addition, drone charging and deployment hives, known as “Docks,” will be strategically placed to enable officers to respond to most calls in less than 2 minutes, at any time, and in most weather conditions. The drones will be used in a variety of critical scenarios, including: • Searching for missing persons • Locating fleeing suspects and stolen vehicles • Monitoring large crowds and traffic • Assisting in medical emergency response Unlike traditional drone programs, the Skydio X10 can launch within 20 seconds, reach speeds up to 45 miles per hour, and provide live aerial footage directly to officers’ phones or computers – even beyond the line of sight, thanks to advanced autonomy and FAA authorization. The drones are equipped with thermal and infrared imaging, enabling officers to operate effectively in low visibility and at night. The program will be operated by the Department’s newly formed Drone Unit, whose members have all earned FAA Part 107 remote pilot certifications. The unit was created in line with strict compliance to federal regulations and city policy to ensure the ethical and safe use of drone technology in public safety. “This is an incredible addition to our public safety efforts,” said Chief Edward Santiago. "This new technology allows us to respond to emergencies faster, gain critical information before officers arrive on scene, and ultimately protect both the public and our officers more effectively.” The implementation of this program aligns with the City’s broader commitment to innovation, transparency, and community safety. Sunny Isles Beach leads a growing number of municipalities nationwide embracing drone technology as a force multiplier in modern policing. Previous Next
