An Enhancing Evening Sets New Records For PAWS Jewish Connection News Jun 4, 2025 PAWS Whispers Of Enchantment: A Night In The Hidden Garden Gala, Presented By Spirit Airlines, Took Place On April 26th At The Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa. Chairwomen Dawn Dellapina And Danielle Gaudreau, Along With Their Hard-Working Committee, Were Thrilled To Announce That The Magical Evening Netted A Record-Breaking $420,000 For The Humane Society Of Broward County’s Life-Saving Programs And Services. Champagne awaited the arriving guests, who then stopped for a keepsake photo at the elegantly designed step & repeat. Music by an electric violinist added to the magical atmosphere. The cocktail hour offered Tito’s Handmade Vodka specialty cocktails, delectable appetizers, and an incredible silent auction. Beautifully decorated and nestled among lush garden-inspired decor, the silent auction also broke a Gala record with more than $73,000 raised. Adding sparkle to the night was the dazzling prize drawing. Melissa Rocker was the lucky winner of an exquisite pair of one-of-a-kind oval blue zircon and diamond earrings by 23-time award-winning designer Robert Pelliccia and generously donated by J.R. Dunn Jewelers. Upon being welcomed into the enchanted mist-filled ballroom, attendees were greeted with lively tunes from the band Private Stock. There was also a lovely performance by American Heritage School’s Acapella Singers. Jacey Birch, the honorary emcee, guided the evening’s festivities, which included a delicious dinner and a thrilling live auction led by auctioneer Whitney Dutton. Gala guests were feeling generous, as this auction also set a new record with $104,000 raised! No enchanted evening would be complete without a four-legged fairy tale—and this one belonged to Godiva, a lovable English Bulldog whose story touched every guest in the room. Godiva had been left at the shelter because she could no longer be used for breeding, but she found her happily-ever-after in a loving forever home. Inspired by Godiva’s story and after learning more about the shelter’s programs and services, guests took part in the Give from the Heart auction where bid paddles filled the air. Over $71,000 was raised – another milestone moment! The celebration of an enchanted success carried on throughout the evening, with guests dancing well into the night. Almost 3 in 4 Floridians Want Their Social Media Posts Buried With Them November 19, 2021 Share An Oxford study discovered that Facebook could have 4.9 billion deceased user accounts by the year 2100 Have you ever wondered what will become of your social media footprint after your death? Many internet users have had their social media accounts for a number of years, from the days of their very first teenage MySpace and Tumblr profiles. We were warned of the permanence of having an online presence; therefore, if these accounts haven’t been deactivated and deleted, chances are there are still traces of them that exist online. And on a larger timescale, for example, 100 years from now, the probability of your current social media accounts still existing on the internet is high. In fact, an Oxford study discovered that Facebook could have 4.9 billion deceased user accounts by the year 2100 if it continues growing at its current rate. Some platforms, like Facebook, allow the user to appoint a legacy contact, who will have certain rights to the account when the user dies. Google also allows users to plan their post-mortem account management by sharing certain data with a trusted contact via the Inactive Account Manager. • 1 in 10 social media users worry about previous posts that would now be considered contentious. • 40% say they never post about politics for fear of bring ostracized. Redact.dev, a unique software that allows you to scan your social media history and automatically remove any contentious posts, conducted a survey of 3,360 social media users across the U.S. The survey discovered that Floridians overwhelmingly (71%) want their entire social media posts erased in the event of their death. Perhaps this is because more than 1 in 10 (13%) users are concerned about existing social media content posted in the past, that might now be considered contentious. As our knowledge and worldview expands, oftentimes our thoughts and opinions evolve alongside. This may explain why almost half (46%) of respondents say they’ve gone back through their social media history and found their old posts, which are totally different to the opinions they currently hold today. This might also be why more than a quarter (27%) say they’ve set their social media accounts to ‘private’ when job hunting. Lockdown presented many with an opportunity to complete tasks that may have been of lower priority before the pandemic, but still needed to be done sometime. More than a third (38%) of social media users say they used their spare time during the course of the pandemic to clear their accounts of any embarrassing posts. Now’s the Time To Get Prepared: Hurricane Season Is Around the Corner May 19, 2023 Share With June 1st being the start of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season just two weeks away, now is the time to get ready. Reduce your stress during an Emergency by having your family’s plan in place in advance. A Hurricane can cause major disruptions to your family, the power grid and the supply chain. The best way to minimize these and many other problems is to be prepared. Sit down with your family and determine essentials such as how much water your family needs, where you will go if you need to Evacuate and how you will stay in contact with loved ones. You will also need to be able to be self-sufficient for at least 7 days after a storm hits our area. To help you prepare, here are some tips from the Florida Department of Health. Your Emergency Plan should include all members of your household especially if they have special medical conditions. Create a plan of when and where to evacuate because you might need special transportation for pets or elderly loved ones. Always have an emergency meeting place if you get separated and have an out-of-town contact person who everyone can call to stay in touch. When gathering emergency supplies, get one gallon of water per person for 7 days, non-perishable foods such as canned meat, fish, veggies, fruits and nuts. It's a good idea to have a non-electric can opener, disposable plates and utensils. Don't forget matches and cooking gel to heat up foods or boil water. If you have medical needs, have a 30 day supply of prescription medications from your doctor, plus over the counter pain relievers, antacids, anti-diarrhea medicine and any medicine for your child. In addition to the actual medications, make sure to prepare a list of all medications and essential medical devices you will need, include your physician’s contact number, and blood type and allergies for all household members. Assemble a First-Aid Kit with sterile bandages, cleansing agent, safety pins, gauze pads, scissors, sewing needle, moist towelettes and tape. Keep all essential information in a waterproof container, especially the contact information for your property insurer, contact information of family and friends, all credit card and bank information. It would be a good idea to have a portable computer storage device with electronic copies of your mortgage, home deed, car title, instructions for shutting off utilities, pet health records, and other important documents. For insurance purposes keep a list of your major home belongings and back it up with photos.
