Aventura Is Coming: The Brightline Station Will Soon Be A Reality July 15, 2021 Share Brightline's Aventura station will open at the 19800 block of West Dixie Highway. Things are warming up, with it’s boots on the ground, as Brightline getting ready to reopen with a brighter, revamped service, this Fall. In the meantime, Brightline wanted to loop you in on their most recent update. They heard you loud and clear, this past year, they have focused on all those expansions that will keep you connected to the people and places that matter the most to you. Aventura Station Located at the halfway point between their Miami and Fort Lauderdale stations, this new 17,500 square-foot station will have unique features that include a new pedestrian bridge over West Dixie Highway and a Miami-Dade Transit bus drop-off canopy. The Aventura station, located just west of Aventura Mall, will be built on three acres of land. The station itself, includes a 860-foot platform, along the tracks to which Brightline and parent company Florida East Coast Railway, have the right-of-way. Construction will also add 240 parking spaces and the site includes, a bus drop-off area. Love to shop? Then you’re in luck, as the station design includes a bridge that will connect to the Aventura Mall in the future. In a recent interview with Eric Claussen, SVP of Design and Deve-lopment, he was asked to give more details about this upcoming station. Why An Aventura Station? The West Aventura location is a great opportunity to serve residents and workers in this area that is midway between the Miami and Fort Lauderdale stops. It is also located in an area with a lot of supporting roadway networks and Miami-Dade County Transit Connect-ions, this makes it easily accessible from any direction. Additionally, the future connection to the mall, makes this location, even more attractive. What Amenities Will The Station Offer? Along with our other stations – we have lounges to accommodate our passengers in air-conditioned comfort, while awaiting their train's arrival. This area is secured, will have grab and go offerings for guests at our newly designed, tech forward, Good to Go Retail Stores. What Inspires The Design of This Station? Movement has always been an inspiration to our station design and can be seen in the dynamic form created by the concrete V-braces, evident on Brightline's stations, both, here and at future locations. We are proud of this aesthetic and believe when people see our stations – they have come to know them as Brightline, by both of these V's, are also using our tasteful, signature yellow, within, the architectural designs. What Is The Maximum Capacity of The Station? The lounge seating capacity is roughly 100 seats with adequate standing room, if needed. What Makes You Excited About This Station? It’s an expansion of our family of stations – for me, what I find exciting about this and other expansion locations, is a validation that intercity passenger rail and connectivity of local destinations for shorter trips – either business or pleasure has a demand. Eight years ago, when I joined this team, I’m not sure that any of us could have foreseen, how the demand for our services would go, they have gone far beyond, the original, four station locations. Brightline Trains Operating at Top Speeds For the first time since Brightline began testing, trains will be able to operate at the FRA approved and authorized top speeds of 79 miles per hour outside of the specific testing zones and along the entire 67 mile corridor, from West Palm Beach to Miami. Trains will be adhering to quiet zones throughout testing and will not sound horns, in the designated areas. With trains now operating on the tracks at more regular intervals and at top speeds, Brightline is reminding the public, pedestrians, motorists and cyclists to make safe choices around trains and crossings. The safety message is simple: Look, Listen, Live. Drivers and pedestrians should obey all traffic laws around crossings and never stop on the tracks! Remain alert and aware, when you are near railroad tracks and only cross the tracks, at a railroad crossing. The Shavuot Holiday: A Unique Crossroad Between Religion and Cuisine By Rabbi Moishe Kievman - Chabad Chayil June 2, 2022 Share The Holiday of Shavuot marks the celebration of the Giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai some 3,334 years ago, the holiday has become a celebration of fine dairy cuisine as well. Shavuot is celebrated for two days, this year beginning at sundown on Saturday, June 4, 2022 and ending at nightfall on Monday, June 6. That makes it a long 3 day holiday weekend! 50 days after leaving Egypt on Passover, the Jewish people received the Torah from G-d at Mount Sinai on the holiday of Shavuot. Shavuot literally means “weeks” and marks the completion of the seven-week counting period between Passover and Shavuot. Shavuot customs include all-night Torah study, listening to the recitation of the Ten Commandments, the reading of the Book of Ruth, eating dairy products and adorning the home with flowers. With the giving of the Torah, the Jews became obligated to observe the Kosher Laws. As the Torah was given on Shabbat, no cattle or poultry could be slaughtered, nor could we make sure that the animal's insides were healthy and then properly cleaned out as is required in order for the meat to be Kosher. In addition, utensils could not be Koshered, and as such we ate dairy. Exquisite cheesecakes, pesto pastas, lasagna, souffles and of course, cheese blintzes all take center stage during this ancient celebration. When thinking Jewish Holidays, Passover, Chanukah and Yom Kippur usually come to mind first. Nevertheless, Shavuot is considered one of Judaism's main holidays and was in fact a “pilgrimage” when all of Israel would travel to Jerusalem to celebrate in the Temple in Jerusalem. No, it isn't all about the food. What is important is that the community is joining together, hearing the Ten Commandments and celebrating the Torah. But the good food certainly helps. The tradition to learn all night has been practiced ever since we received the Torah. On the very night before G-d gave the Torah, we went to sleep, waking late in the morning. As a symbolic rectification for this, Jews customarily stay awake studying Torah until the morning, on the first night of Shavuot, this year on Sunday night. Since we all stood at Mount Sinai, we must all reaffirm our commitment. On Sunday, June 6th, 2022, the Ten Commandments will be read aloud from the Torah. Special emphasis is placed on including the entire Jewish family, including little babies, the way the Torah’s giving was attended by every Jewish man, woman and child. The word Torah means “instruction” or “guide.” The Torah guides our every step and move through its 613 mitzvahs. The word mitzvah means both “commandment” and “connection.” Through the study of Torah and fulfillment of mitzvahs, we connect ourselves and our environment to G‑d. G‑d’s purpose in creating the world was that all of creation be sanctified, imbuing it with holiness and spirituality. Since Shavuot is also called the “Harvest Festival,” it is customary to adorn the home with fruits, flowers and greens. Most of us will, thank G-d, be able to get out this year and celebrate the way we have for over three thousand years. But for those that are staying home, for any reason, that should in no way stop you from celebrating the holiday, since most of the holiday is super easy to celebrate even while at home alone. Not going to work ✓ Eating dairy ✓ Praying the special holiday prayers ✓ Studying Torah all night ✓ Decorating the home with flowers ✓ The only things that we can't do without a quorum, are hearing the Ten Commandments read from the Torah and praying with a minyan. But you can still study the Ten Commandments from a Torah Book, known as a Chumash ✓. And you can still read Yizkor, even without a minyan ✓. CityPlace Doral’s Superhero Bash honors first responders and their bravery and acts of kindness, sparks kids’ imaginations to embody the heroic qualities of these figures and brings the community together in one action-packed celebration of courage and service. The community will enjoy superhero-themed fun, interactive entertainment, games, activities, giveaways and more. Families can suit up for adventure and meet their favorite caped crusaders and discover the real-life heroes who keep the community safe. Get up close with real emergency vehicles from the City of Doral’s Police Department, City of Doral’s Public Works Department, Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, Jackson Health System and Global Empowerment Mission (GEM). From fire trucks and ambulances to police cruisers, every vehicle is a hero’s ride to explore. Attendees will have the opportunity to snap selfies with superheroes, including Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and more. The Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department will be offering free fingerprinting for children. GEM will also be on-site collecting essential relief supplies to support those impacted by the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela and Colombia. Families across the affected areas are still facing significant hardship and an urgent need for humanitarian assistance. Community support is vital, and there are several ways to help. GEM, a NonProfit Organization specializing in rapid disaster response, has mobilized to offer immediate relief to impacted communities. Since its founding in 2011, GEM has been committed to delivering critical aid quickly and efficiently, ensuring support reaches those who need it most. Keller's Korner - Abby Meyers By Neil Keller Jul 18, 2025 Welcome To Keller’s Korner! Today, We Spotlight A Remarkable Athlete And Fellow Jewish Terrapin—Abby Meyers. As A Proud University Of Maryland Alum, It Is A Thrill To Write About Someone Who Shares Both My Alma Mater And Heritage. Abby Just Turned 26, And Her Basketball Journey Is Already An Amazing Story. Abby was practically born with a basketball in her hand. At just seven years old, she was already competing in a rec league for Carderock Springs Elementary School in Bethesda, Maryland. Her love for the game? Abby credits her father: “I definitely credit my dad in teaching me the fundamentals and patience for the game. I also credit my high school varsity coach Peter Kenah for teaching me a lot about how to operate and succeed in organized team offense and defense.” By middle school, Abby was turning heads in a “Rising Stars” league. Her parents, Steve and Valerie, raised three daughters—all of whom played for Walt Whitman High School. Abby is still the all-time leading scorer—male or female—in Whitman history. She led the Whitman Vikings to a Maryland State Championship and earned First-Team All-State honors. Abby also excelled in soccer and explained, “I absolutely loved playing soccer. I credit my good pivot and foot skills to soccer helping me with basketball.” Abby took her talents to Princeton University in New Jersey, where she led the Tigers to three consecutive Ivy League titles. In 2022, she was named Ivy League Player of the Year and earned a spot on the Associated Press All-American team. That same year, she starred for Team USA at the Maccabiah Games in Israel, leading the squad in scoring and capturing the gold. “Playing for USA that year made me appreciate my Jewish heritage more than I ever have before. The connections I made will last me a lifetime and are a big reason why I chose to play in Israel professionally.” For the 2022–2023 season, Abby returned home, choosing Maryland over Michigan and Connecticut. “I chose Maryland because it is close to home, and their coaching staff were extremely supportive of me during the decision-making process.” She quickly became a key contributor, helping the Terps reach the Elite Eight before falling to top seed South Carolina. I had the pleasure of meeting Abby before that game in Greenville, South Carolina—armed with my collection of Abby Meyers Maryland bobbleheads to cheer her on and to amaze the entire Meyers family! She was named Second-Team All-Big Ten. April 10, 2023, was a dream come true: Abby was selected 11th overall in the first round of the WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings. “It was a dream come true. All those hours put in behind the scenes paid off—playing for hours on end on my driveway every evening before dinner.” Though her time with the Wings was brief, she soon joined her hometown Washington Mystics before heading overseas to play for the London Lions in the women’s British Basketball League. “Playing in London was the best thing that could have happened to me in my first year overseas. I played alongside some incredible WNBA talent and learned a lot about the game. The culture, food, and history in London were phenomenal—so many fun stories from that season.” Abby was in Israel when Hamas attacked on October 7, 2023. “The attacks were a huge tragedy, and many lives were lost that day and since then in both Israel, Gaza, and Lebanon. I hope that peace can be found as soon as possible.” How do Abby’s parents feel about their daughter playing in Israel during war time? Abby said, “My family was nervous at first because the US news always painted the worst picture of the political situation in Israel. However, I have a great community here and felt very safe in Ashdod.” She added that she has had to go to bomb shelters on a few occasions. This past season, Abby played for Maccabi B’not Ashdod and led the team to an Israeli League title. She was named league MVP, averaging: • 17.4 points • 7.4 rebounds • 3.8 assists per game After the season, she took a well-earned 12-day vacation to the Himalayan Mountains with her twin sister, Olivia. Returning from her vacation, Abby decided her next chapter will be to play basketball in Spain, where she will compete in the EuroLeague. What is Abby’s ultimate goal? A return back to the WNBA. Abby is a great role model, especially for girls who enjoy basketball. She added, “I unconditionally love this game, and it gives me a purpose.” What is one thing that fans might not know about Abby? She perfected a half-court shot behind her back. She said,” I started this at Princeton when I would get extra shots up by myself at night.
