March Over To The Broward Center: Broadway Blockbusters, Cultural Classics And Rock and Roll Legends

Broadway Blockbusters, Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Honorees and music from every genre light up the stages at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts the second half of this month.

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and AEG Presents bring Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Blondie to the Au-Rene Theater on Thursday, March 16th, 2023 at 8:00 p.m. Co-founded by Singer Debbie Harry and Guitarist Chris Stein, the band was a pioneer in the American new wave scene of the mid-1970’s and regarded as an underground band in the U.S. until the release of Parallel Lines in 1978. Over the next five years, the band achieved several Hit Singles including "Heart of Glass," "Call Me," "Atomic," "The Tide Is High" and "Rapture." Blondie has sold around 40 million records worldwide and is noted for its eclectic mix of musical styles that incorporate elements of Disco, Pop, Reggae and Early Rap Music. Martin Sexton performs in the intimate Abdo New River Room on Thursday, March 16th, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. Headlining venues from The Fillmore to Carnegie Hall, he has influenced a generation of contemporary artists and his songs have appeared in television series such as Scrubs, Parenthood and Masters of Sex as well as in numerous films. Called by Billboard as “The real thing, people,” Martin keeps fans coming back for more with his incendiary live show, honest lyrics and vocal prowess. Sexton is joined by Special Guest Matt MacKelcan, a Singer-Songwriter who has emerged from the southeast with a genuine combination of American Soul and Folk Rock. Enjoy an Evening with Rick Wakeman in “His Music and Stories” in the Amaturo Theater on Friday, March 17th, 2023 at 8:00 p.m. The keyboard wizard of YES will combine spellbinding piano music with side splitting jokes and revealing insights into his career. Audiences can expect an evening of superb musicianship, featuring music from YES, Wakeman’s own solo epics and early Bowie hits, plus fantastic arrangements of Beatles' tunes and much, much more interspersed with knockabout and sometimes bawdy typical British humor! Professional Musician, Keyboard Player, Songwriter, Broadcaster and Raconteur, Wakeman's career started as a much-in-demand session player, who performed on recordings by David Bowie, Elton John, Lou Reed, Al Stewart, among others. His big break came in 1971 when he joined YES, which went on to become the most successful Prog Rock Band in the world. This concert is not appropriate for children under the age of 12. Cameron Macintosh and Disney’s Mary Poppins come to the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in the Slow Burn Theatre Company Production on Saturday, March 25th, 2023 - Sunday, April 9th, 2023. Everyone's favorite, practically-perfect nanny will take audiences on a Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical adventure. Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney Film, Mary Poppins, The Musical delighted Broadway audiences during more than 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Get ready to experience an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers and astonishing stagecraft that will mesmerize audiences of all ages. The Broadway blockbuster play of Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird comes to the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts from Tuesday, March 28th, 2023 - Sunday, April 9th, 2023. All rise for Academy Award Winner Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-Winning masterwork. The New York Times Critic’s Pick, To Kill A Mockingbird was called “the most successful American play in Broadway history” by 60 Minutes. Rolling Stone gives it five stars, calling it “an emotionally shattering landmark production of an American classic” and New York Magazine calls it “a real phenomenon. Majestic and incandescent, it’s filled with breath and nuance and soul.” With direction by Tony Award Winner Bartlett Sher, To Kill A Mockingbird, “the greatest novel of all time” according to Chicago Tribune, has quickly become “one of the greatest plays in history” according to National Public Radio. Emmy Award-Winning Actor Richard Thomas will play the role of Atticus Finch in the national tour.
