Doo Wop & Magic At The Cultural Center: Aventura Has A Great Line Up In Store The Month

The Doo Wop Project traces the evolution of Doo Wop from the classic sound of five guys singing harmonies on a street corner to the biggest hits on the radio today. The set list includes the foundational tunes from the Crests, Belmonts and Flamingos through the vocal artistry of Smokey Robinson, The Temptations and The Four Seasons all the way to “DooWopified” versions of modern hits from Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz, Maroon 5 and Sam Smith.

In a review of a performance, Maryland Theatre Guide reported, “The focus is to keep this amazing music with its glorious harmonies alive. The group covers Doo Wop’s heyday but also experiments with incorporating that style of music into contemporary numbers to reach a younger audience – they “Doo wop-ify” the songs. And it succeeds brilliantly.”

The Doo Wop Project’s one hour PBS special, produced by Detroit Public Television, debuted in June of 2022 and such a hit with fans it aired on a whopping 88% of all PBS stations nationwide.
