City of Hollywood Memorial Day & Upcoming Weekend Celebrations

Join the City of Hollywood on Sunday, May 29th for an uplifting celebration to honor those who have served our country. The Memorial Day Celebration will be held on Sunday, May 29th from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Boulevard Heights Community Center Amphitheater.

The event will feature a musical performance by the Silver Wings Band on the outdoor amphitheater stage. In addition, if you bring your tattered flag you will receive a 3X5 replacement flag, while supplies last. Complimentary food and refreshments will be offered.

The Boulevard Heights Community Center is located at 6770 Garfield Street and ample free parking is available. Please bring a chair or blanket for lawn seating. Single-use plastics are prohibited at this Boulevard Heights, so please consider bringing a reusable bottle of water instead.

Afro Roots Fest Music Festival
The Afro Roots Fest is a FREE event for all ages. Join in on the fun Saturday May 21s - 4:00 p.m. at the ArtsPark at Young Circle. The festival will feature internationally-flavored music featuring Jesus Hidalgo (Venezuela), Philip Montalban (Nicaragua), Gilmar Gomes, (Brazil), The Resolvers (US), Miamibloco (Miami/Brazil), and DJ Le Spam (Miami). Afro Roots Fest, making its debut in Broward County, is presented by the Non-Profit Community Arts & Culture, which has presented this world music concert series throughout Florida for 24 seasons. Jesus Hidalgo
Jesus Hidalgo is a music composer and singer, an activist for the rights of our mother nature, the rights of animals, and a guardian of our ancestral legacy from Venezuela.

Gilmar Gomes
Gilmar Gomes is a percussionist, multiinstrumentalist and solo artist. Born in Brazil, traveled and toured the world, loves and lives in Miami. Singer-songwriter, international recording artist, producer and Visual Artist.

Philip Montalban
Afro-Latino Reggae artist Philip Montalbán amusingly refers to the term “African/English/Spanish” to describe his long-standing presence in the music touring industry and also to refer to the African and/or Caribbean presence largely located on the Atlantic coast in his home of Nicaragua.

The Resolvers
The Resolvers define "Big Band Reggae" by combining classic Jamaican roots and lively New Orleans stylings. Siblings Ojay and Sahara Smith (son and daughter of international reggae artist Ernie Smith) exchange lead vocal roles with Israeli born bandleader and guitarist Ron Eisner while their rock solid rhythm and bombastic horn sections set the pace.

DJ Lee Spam
Miami based DJ Le Spam, founder of The Spam Allstars, is also known for his eclectic vinyl collection. Born in Montreal, and raised in London and Bogota, he was exposed to a variety of music and cultures from an early age. He specializes in rare and hard to find music.

Downtown Hollywood ArtWalk on 
Saturday, May 21st from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Visit galleries and shops in Downtown Hollywood while enjoying art, cultural entertainment, live music, murals during the monthly Artwalk! This guided mural tour lets you learn the stories behind the art and artists of the Downtown Hollywood Mural Project. Meet at the Visitor Center Information Booth at 20th Avenue & Harrison Street, just before 6:00 p.m.

Artisan Market at the ArtWalk from 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Join friends and neighbors for the Artisan Market at the ArtWalk! Featuring pop-up shops, artist showcases, handmade items, local purveyors, vintage shopping, boutique goods and FUN! Located on Harrison Street between 20th & 21st Avenues.

Gallery Tour from 7:00 p.m. & 9:00 p.m.
Join Evan Snow of Choose954 for a guided and curated ArtWalk experience. Get an opportunity to meet with the local artists of each gallery in Downtown Hollywood. Meet at the Visitor Center Information Booth at 20th Avenue & Harrison Street.

Cinema Paradiso at 10:00 p.m.
Catch an amazing sleight-of-hand performance by "Magic Jack" Maxwell. LOCATION: 2008 Hollywood Boulevard.

So if you are looking for a fun night out with fabulous restaurants, galleries & shops, while enjoying art, music, murals, and outdoor markets, then mark May 21st on the calendar because it will have all that and more.

Parking
Downtown Hollywood offers on-street metered parking for $1.50 per hour, as well as municipal garage parking for $1 per hour. Municipal garage locations are: 251 S. 20th Avenue (between Harrison Street and Van Buren Street) and 251 N. 19th Avenue Municipal Garage (between Tyler Street & Polk Street).
