Abstracted & Love The Everglades Movement: Dive Into The Captivating World Of Art In Hollywood, The Exhibitions End Soon

Francie Bishop Good was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, she lives and works in Fort Lauderdale. Bishop Good received her BFA from the University of Colorado and MA in Education from Florida Atlantic University. She is a two-time recipient of the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship and was selected for the State of Florida Individual Artist Fellowship. Museum solo shows include the Allentown Art Museum, Allentown; NSU Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville; and the Hilliard Museum, Lafayette. Francie Bishop Good is represented by Mindy Solomon Gallery, Miami.

Karen Snouffer has Exhibited at the Art Center South Florida, Miami; The Work Space, New York; Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art; Evansville Art Museum, Indiana; La Médiathèque, Epernay, France; and Galerie Cardo, Reims, France. She is a former fellow of the Fine Arts Work Center, Provincetown, and a past Artist in Residence at Headlands Center for the Arts, Sausalito. Snouffer received her BS in Education and MFA from The Ohio State University. She teaches painting, drawing, and multimedia classes at Kenyon College with a studio and residence in Gambier, Ohio.

Sara Stites is based in Miami and Maine. Stites has had Solo Exhibitions in Miami at Under the Bridge and Art At Work. Group Exhibitions include Artists Draw Their Studios at Klynert Gallery, Woodstock, New York, 2020 Florida Biennial at the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood, and Temporarily at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Rockland, Maine. Sara Stites and Francie Bishop Good were both recipients of the 2022 Florida Prize at the Orlando Museum of Art.

The Exhibition is Curated by Meaghan Kentis and will be on view through Sunday, August 6th, 2023. Gallery Hours are Tuesday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Saturday – Sunday, 12:00 p.m. Noon – 4:00 p.m. The Galleries are closed on Mondays.

Love the Everglades Movement + Donna Kalil: Python Huntress Documentary

Love the Everglades Movement is an Environmental NonProfit established over 10 years ago by Reverend Houston R. Cypress and Jean Sarmiento. The organization encourages education and action on the preservation of the Everglades and looks to Reconciliation as an integral aspect of the Greater Everglades restoration project because of its necessity to integrate indigenous knowledge into the overall process. The information is manifold as it relates to traditional ecological knowledge (such as researching and reintroducing native plants into our ecosystem), the arts (how culture and craft can amplify storytelling), and understanding how language and dialect are inherent to our environmental surroundings. The Exhibition at the Center creates a space for learning, engagement, and joy in relationship to the River of Grass.

This Exhibition in Gallery 2 at the Center is the sixth of our Oolite Collaborations Series with Oolite Arts based in Miami Beach. The Exhibition Brochure includes an interview with the artists with Environmental Activist and Independent Art Historian Mary Jo Aagerstoun.

In conjunction with the Exhibition, there is an ongoing screening of Python Huntress. Python Huntress is a glimpse into the life of Donna Kalil, an environmentalist and Python Elimination Specialist who spends her nights patrolling the Florida Everglades in search of the invasive Burmese Python. Through this documentary short film, learn more about the problem with pythons in South Florida and why for Donna, fulfilling her job responsibilities does not always come easy.

The film has been included in The Miami Film Festival, the Gasparilla International Film Festival, the Maryland International Film Fest, Kansas City FilmFest, Florida Film Festival, International Wildlife Film Festival, Palm Beach International Film Fest, Sunscreen Film Festival, FilmGate Festival.
