A Masterful Guitarist and Sensual Singer: Badi Assad Comes to The Aventura Arts & Cultural Center

The City of Aventura presents Badi Assad performing in English and Portuguese on Saturday February 24 at 8 p.m. In the world of music, there are artists who not only master their instrument but also possess a unique ability to connect with their audience on a profound level. Badi Assad, born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil, is one such artist. With her extraordinary talent on the guitar and mesmerizing vocal abilities, Assad has carved a path for herself as a true innovator and storyteller in the realm of music.

Assad's journey began at the age of fourteen when she delved into the study of guitar under the guidance of her father, Jorge, and her renowned brothers, Sergio and Odair of the Duo Assad. Simultaneously, she honed her singing skills alongside her mother, Angelina Assad. This nurturing environment fostered a deep passion for music within Assad, setting the stage for her remarkable career.

Throughout her illustrious career, Assad has garnered numerous accolades and collaborations with world-renowned musicians. Notably, she was awarded the prestigious "Best Brazilian Guitarist" at the International Heitor Villa-Lobos Festival. This recognition speaks volumes about her mastery of the instrument and her ability to push the boundaries of what is traditionally expected from a guitarist.

Winner of the "Best Brazilian Guitarist" Award at the International Heitor Villa-Lobos Festival, Assad's technical mastery allows her to fully explore the guitar's sonic range, which combined with her voice, delivers authenticity, whimsy, power, romanticism and truth.

Of one of her performances, The New York Times reported, “She continued with Brazilian pop songs transformed by her imaginative virtuosity, moving from gauzy delicacy to vigorous propulsion, from dreaming to dancing and back.”

Bassad’s Wonderland, one of 20 album releases, was selected among the 100 best by BBC London and also included among the 30 best on Amazon.com. Guitar Player selected her as one of the guitarists who would revolutionize the world, among artists such as Ben Harper and Ani DiFranco. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native has collaborated with Bobby McFerrin, Yo-Yo Ma, Sarah McLachlan, Seu Jorge and Arooj Aftab.

A celebrated and unique talent, Assad is the subject of the film Badi, directed by Edu Felistoque, which won Best Documentary at the LABAFF (Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival).
