  • Discover “YI Love Jewish” With Four Shows: Featuring Singing, Dancing, Theater and Music at Aventura Arts & Cultural Center

Discover “YI Love Jewish” With Four Shows: Featuring Singing, Dancing, Theater and Music at Aventura Arts & Cultural Center September 19, 2024 Share Together with the City of Aventura, the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center will offer four “YI Love Jewish” shows during its upcoming 2024-2025 Season that will highlight the best of Jewish culture and history as presented through song, dance, theater and music. Listed below, the four shows are produced by YI Love Jewish, a division of the Yiddishkayt Initiative, which is a national nonprofit cultural arts organization that celebrates and promotes Jewish history, life, and culture, and its far-reaching impact on the world through the performing arts, publishing, education, language, and literature. The Wheel: Songs from the Road Featuring The Zisl Slepovitch Klezmer Trio Thursday, October 17 at 8 p.m. Musicologist and singer D. Zisl Slepovitch presents a collection of rare, beautiful, and sometimes revelational, songs and instrumental pieces that he recorded from mostly elderly Jewish people and discovered in the archives in Eastern Europe with his mentor Dr. Nina Stepanskaya. Time Out New York reported, " . . . the brave sound of klezmer, played with a full heart and as loud as the clarinet can blow." Slepovitch is a multi-instrumentalist (clarinetist, saxophonist, flutist, pianist and keyboardist, singer) who is also renowned as a conductor, composer, arranger, translator, and music and Yiddish educator. This event is presented as part of YI Love Jewish YIDFEST 2024 Series. During World War II, Jewish composers added their voices to tango, which was the rave on both sides of the Atlantic. Featured at major festivals around the world, this event highlights Hoffman's tales of Jewish culture and live dancers to bring the passion of Yiddish and tango to all ages. The play takes place within three worlds: Anne and her family's secret annex hiding place, the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp where Anne died and an imagined world where Anne survives WWII to go over the manuscript of her diary with her editor at a publishing house in Manhattan. This play poses the question: "Had Anne known precisely what was in store for her and her family at the hands of the Nazis, would she still have written, ‘In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart?’” This event contains adult language or content. Youth Travel Soccer Teams offer a pathway to precisely that. Beyond the thrill of the game and the roar of the crowd, these teams unlock a treasure trove of benefits that extend far beyond the Soccer Field. From fostering Essential Life Skills to creating lifelong friendships, being part of a Youth Travel Soccer Team can transform children into well-rounded individuals. One of the most apparent advantages of belonging to a Youth Travel Soccer Team is the improvement in Physical Health and Fitness. Regular Training Sessions and competitive matches keep children active, promoting Cardiovascular Health, strength, and agility. In a time when Childhood Obesity Rates are on the rise, Soccer provides an engaging way to keep kids moving and develop healthy habits that can last a lifetime. Being part of a Soccer Team instills the value of teamwork and cooperation. Players learn that success is not just about individual talent, but about how well the team works together. They develop Communication Skills, the ability to listen to others, and the art of compromise - all of which are crucial in any aspect of life, whether in Academics, the Workplace, or Personal Relationships. Youth Travel Soccer Teams often compete in Tournaments and Leagues that bring together players from Diverse Backgrounds and Cultures. This exposure fosters an appreciation for diversity, encouraging children to embrace different perspectives and build friendships with people from various walks of life. These multicultural experiences can shape open-minded and empathetic individuals. Within the team, leaders naturally emerge. Captains and experienced players take on leadership roles, guiding and motivating their peers. This sense of responsibility nurtures leadership skills that can be transferred to any sphere of life, preparing children to become confident and capable leaders in their communities and beyond. Aventura's Team The City of Aventura’s Travel Soccer Teams have available Team Member spots for interested boys and girls ages 5-16 that are willing to commit and play through the season, which runs August 2023 through May 2024. The AFC is a member of FYSA (Florida Youth Soccer Association). With support from its Professional Coaching Staff, FYSA provides an appropriate level of development for each player, which includes learning new skills, playing on a team, gaining sportsmanship experience, and having fun. All players must be approved and have the required flag for registration. • Develop Your Culinary IQ in Hallandale Beach

Develop Your Culinary IQ in Hallandale Beach March 20, 2023 Share What’s your culinary IQ? That all depends upon how often you try new foods and cultural experiences. Your culinary IQ is the knowledge and appreciation you have for cuisine from all over the world. It reflects your capacity to recognize delicious from bland seasoning, high quality from low quality ingredients, creative from ordinary dishes, and chefs from cooks. With nearly 100 restaurants in just 4.6 square miles, the City of Hallandale Beach is the ideal place for developing your culinary IQ. Cuisine is one of the most treasured aspects of modern culture. It’s more than a national pastime: it’s a means for spending valuable family time, dating, social experiences with friends, and conducting business. If you can improve your culinary IQ, you can also improve the quality of these experiences by introducing your guests to things they will appreciate. Some restaurants are good for romance while others are good for fun. Some restaurants are better for stimulating discussions while others are more suited to quietude and relaxation. “Everything from fine dining to fast food and truly boutique restaurants are in our city limits,” says Dr. Jeremy Earle, City Manager and Executive Director of the Hallandale Beach Community Redevelopment Agency. “Hallandale Beach is an ideal city for anyone who wants to learn about food on an international scope.” When you exit I-95 at Hallandale Beach Blvd., kick it off with the best in Jamaican fare with Dunns River Island Café. Once you walk in, you will feel like you are in the Caribbean with the relaxing ambiance of Jamaica and Reggae backbeat. If Cuban food is your weakness Don Lolo’s Restaurant offers a wide variety of both Cuban and Mexican dishes. You can go lighter with Moises Bakery, which offers some of the finest Venezuelan bakery treats in all of Florida. Sample the delicious Empanadas from Venezuela, Chilé and Argentina. There is also Judy’s Bakery and Pastry shop, which is also a terrific family-style eatery where you can sit down and casually dine on Columbian-style fare. If you seek vegetarian, try the Krazy Vegan – a 100% plant-based gourmet burger joint that offers a variety of handcrafted burgers, sandwiches, and wings topped with their signature sauces. You don’t have to stay on the Blvd. Nestled just off it on NW 2nd Avenue is Chapultepec Mexican Bar & Restaurant, which has an amazing selection of homemade, fresh tacos, excellent Margaritas and more! For an American Classic: The Flashback Diner, which features a full, New York Style menu of sandwiches, entrees, salads, and desserts. Tucked away in an enclave in the shopping complex just off 14th Avenue is Il Mercato Cafe & Wine Bar, a European-style restaurant with a small, cozy, and intimate feel. Directly off the Blvd. you will also spot See Thai and Japanese Cuisine Restaurant where you can enjoy sushi and traditional Thai entrees with a variety of exotic sauces. As you head eastward, you will spot the Diplomat Mall Shopping Complex, which contains many superb restaurants. El Tayta Restaurant offers authentic Peruvian cuisine, Las Vegas Restaurant provides a full Cuban dining experience, Cilantro Asian Bistro is a fascinating blend of Thai and Japanese fare, and Piola serves up a complete pizza assortment. At the far east of the complex, don’t miss Matteo’s Restaurant and Bar for a true-to-form Italian fine dining experience. For a dining experience that includes the excitement of the racetrack, casinos, and shopping one can visit restaurants in Gulfstream Park. These include Ten Palms, Christine Lee's, Yard house, Upper Deck Ale, Bellyfish, and Pastry is Art. Hallandale Beach’s world-famous Pegasus statue provides a fitting entrance to this complete experience. If that doesn’t suit you, one can easily spend an entire week having breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Atlantic Village. From Argentinian to Israeli, Peruvian to Italian, Venezuelan to Asian, Burgers to Vegan, and Cigars to Juice Bars – it’s all here in one thoughtfully designed complex. No matter where you park your car in the lot, everything is right in front of you. Restaurants here include La Estancia Argentina, Holi Vegan Kitchen, Jaffa Israeli Kitchen, Crudos Fusion Art, The Blues Burgers, Doggi’s Arepa Bar, and 1st Place winner of the 2022 Hallandale Food and Groove Festival, Dr. Limon’s Ceviche Bar. At the far eastern side of the City, as you crossover the Intracoastal and reach the ocean’s edge, you will find Etaru Restaurant and Bar, which features contemporary Japanese robatayaki grill cuisine. The beach bar offers a more relaxed ambience with service directly to the beach. “But it doesn’t end there,” says Dr. Earle. “Some of the most exciting restaurants are scheduled to open later this year in the City’s burgeoning Food, Fashion, Art and Design District (FFADD) along NE 1st Avenue. These will include GoBistro, Kao Sushi Bar & Grill (the county’s first restaurant fashioned from shipping containers), Yosoy Marketplace, and a microbrewery. This collection of experiences will add to two already well-established restaurants: Icebox, EV Boost Juice Bar, and Ceviche Avenue.” Dr. Earle also noted that the City will be offering a free electric mini-cart transport (“FreeBee”) service that will circulate people throughout the FFADD to several pick-up points including two new parking lots which are being developed at this time. Such will provide an all-inclusive dining circuit for residents and tourists alike. “Our restaurants are the gems of this City,” says Dr. Earle. “They provide the foundation for the exciting future that awaits Hallandale Beach – as a place where people not only enjoy themselves but gain exposure to tastes, aromas, and sights of international cuisine and culture.” < Previous News Next News >

  • Dr. Jessica Cismas Improves Smiles, Facial Structure and Health with Advanced Cosmetic Dentistry

Dr. Jessica Cismas Improves Smiles, Facial Structure and Health with Advanced Cosmetic Dentistry October 21, 2021 Share Dr. Jessica Cismas is a general and cosmetic dentist. With more than 57,000 patients to her credit in private practice and clinics throughout the United States and Canada, she has been recognized throughout her profession for her remarkable dexterity, artistic skills and gentle, kind approach Dr. Cismas earned her DMD (Doctor of Medical Dentistry) in 2005 from University of Montreal and completed her GPR (General Practice Residency) in 2006 from McGill University. Immediately after completing her schooling, she moved to Manhattan, where she worked for 12 years in diverse dental offices, for the purpose of acquiring a wide range of unique experiences. She continues to participate regularly in weekly dental group studies and attends more than double the required continuing education classes annually to keep abreast of the latest technology and innovative procedures in her field. During her 16-year career, Dr. Cismas has performed thousands of procedures that include veneers, tooth bonding, teeth bleaching, crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, emergency treatments, root canals, fillings, extractions, night guards, flippers, Valplast® partial and full dentures, periodontal treatment and implant restorative care. She also completed many treatments using FirstFit®, Invisalign®, Clear Correct® and Snap-On Smiles®. Dr. Cismas uses cutting edge technology incorporating digital dentistry on a daily basis. However, her true passion is cosmetic dentistry. Many patients are referred to her for challenging aesthetic problems. Some of them are patients who are not satisfied with previous cosmetic procedures; others are simply curious as to how they can improve their smile. “Technology has removed a lot of guess work in dentistry,” says Dr. Cismas, but in cosmetic dentistry, a keen sense of artistry must be applied for the ultimate aesthetic effect. I only use the best materials, equipment and team with the top labs in the country to achieve the best results.” Through her weekly online consults with dental groups around the world, Dr. Cismas is exposed to ever-changing new approaches and techniques and she will update current procedures in her practice as indicated. In her calm and compassionate manner, once Dr. Cismas carefully has explained the problem to her patient, she will present several corrective options that can work, allowing for the patient to make his or her own decision. “It’s important for patients to understand the problem and take the time to make the right choice for themselves, based on their personal priorities,” she adds. Dr. Cismas has been part of Aventura Dental Group since 2017. She works very closely with the periodontists in her office to methodically plan implant and periodontal surgery and treatment. “Quite often patients appear with improperly placed implants, because the practitioner did not have an overall plan in mind for a final restoration of the mouth. Consequently, gum problems can occur and the implant may need to be removed and replaced,” says Dr. Cismas. “That’s the benefit of evaluating the situation along with the periodontist.” When teeth are being treated or broken teeth repaired, Dr. Cismas pays particular attention to occlusion, defined as the meeting of the upper and lower teeth. “Correct occlusion of a patient’s bite is important whether simply filling a tooth or performing a full mouth reconstruction,” she says. Because this is such a significant concern in good dentistry, Dr. Cismas went above and beyond to complete a year-long specialty course just on occlusion. “Typical presentations of occlusion problems are worn down, aging or broken teeth.” says Dr Cismas. “This damage can cause loss of a patient’s facial vertical dimension. As the patient’s bite slowly collapses, the jaw reacts by closing more than it should, which affects alignment of the teeth, lips and other facial features. Results could include flattened upper and lower lips, wrinkling and droopy, folding facial skin, especially in the corners of the lips.” Dr. Cismas notes that these are the facial changes that contribute to an aging appearance! “The solution in this situation is to open the patient’s bite in order to restore it to how it was in the past or even improve it. By restoring the bite, Dr. Cismas says that facial structure improves. Premature wrinkles can be stretched over an improved alignment. With better support, lips can appear fuller, lessening the need for Botox and fillers. “A collapsed bite can be corrected with metal braces or clear plastic liners such as Invisalign®, veneers, inlays, onlays, crowns, bridges and/or implants” says Dr. Cismas. “Length of time and cost will depend on the severity of the problem, condition of the mouth and how long the abnormality has been present. It is really important to make these corrections at any age from a health and cosmetic perspective and the extra benefit definitely is a more youthful appearance and sense of well-being.” Dr. Cismas’ online ratings are 5-star. William Ellingsworth summed it up in his review by saying “I never met a nicer, more humble, sincere, caring professional as Dr. Jessica Cismas. Her technique and chairside manner is first class and second to none. Her exam was thorough and thoughtful. Her assessment made perfect sense and she explained everything to me in detail, leaving no questions unanswered.” “Cosmetic surgery is an art form,” says Dr. Cismas. “I have many patients who have visited me from Europe and South America for corrective work. Referrals seem to have gone far. Comfort and open communication is also a key player in my patient interaction." “I treat everyone as though they are family. Also, I must love the finished product myself before I will even show the patient the result. My patient’s satisfaction is definitely my best reward!” As if her days are not full enough, this remarkable woman enjoys spending her non-professional time at home with her husband Marius, four growing boys and a brand new baby girl.
