  • Two Years After October 7th, Cyberwell Urges Social Media Companies To Reverse Decline In Moderation As Threats Flourish | sun-times

Two Years After October 7th, Cyberwell Urges Social Media Companies To Reverse Decline In Moderation As Threats Flourish Jewish Connection News Oct 23, 2025 Two Years After Hamas Livestreamed Its Massacre And Kidnappings During The October 7th, 2023, Terrorist Attacks, Cyberwell, A Trusted Partner Of Major Social Media Platforms And An Independent Tech Nonprofit That Monitors And Combats Online Antisemitism, Is Urging Companies To Restore And Strengthen Content Moderation Systems As The Threat Of Digital Incitement And Extremism Continues To Grow. Rather than acting on the lessons of October 7th, CyberWell says, many platforms have scaled back the very safeguards that could help prevent the next wave of online-fueled terrorism. The call comes as a $1 billion civil lawsuit filed in Israel by victims of the October 7th attacks, and their families, against Meta advances in court. The landmark case alleges that Meta enabled repeated broadcasts of executions and kidnappings by Hamas and failed to act on credible warnings. If granted approval as a class action suit in Israeli courts, there could be an international opening for families of victims of terror to join in suing Meta for pain and suffering caused by the unbridled broadcasting of the Hamas massacre and kidnapping on that day and in the months following. “What happened on October 7th should have been a turning point for safety, like the Sept. 11 attacks were for public security and for the air travel industry,” said CyberWell Founder and CEO Tal-Or Cohen Montemayor. “Instead, in the last two years we have witnessed a retreat from the very tools and safeguards that could have prevented the spread of graphic executions, incitement to violence and digital antisemitism. This is not just a content policy issue. It is a national security imperative.” CyberWell’s data shows that the October 7th attacks exposed systemic moderation failures on platforms such as Meta and X, where livestreams and video uploads of terrorist acts were widely distributed and amplified by algorithms designed to maximize engagement. Since then, many platforms have removed automated flagging systems, reduced human moderation teams and weakened transparency around algorithmic amplification and enforcement. “The tools are there. The expertise is there,” said Cohen Montemayor. “Every day, platforms scan billions of posts to detect and remove child pornography and copyright infringement using advanced digital fingerprinting, hashing and AI classification. These same tools could stop the viral spread of terror content and recorded graphic violence.” Since October 2023, CyberWell has monitored and flagged thousands of instances of violent antisemitic content, including praise for the terrorist attacks and dehumanizing conspiracy theories that have led to real-world violence against Jewish communities in the United States, Europe, and Australia. The normalization of digital antisemitism continues to drive a dangerous feedback loop: violence is recorded, broadcasted algorithmically, celebrated and repeated. Recent attacks on Jewish communities and political pundits have followed this same pattern of online radicalization and incitement. “Social Media companies have shown they can act decisively when the stakes are high for them. Their ability to rapidly remove child pornography and enforce copyright law proves scalable, precise moderation is possible,” said Cohen Montemayor. “Perhaps the landmark lawsuit in Israel against Meta will create an incentive structure needed to push platforms toward meaningful investment in public-private partnerships and trust-tech solutions that proactively prevent hate speech, incitement and radicalization.” “This is not just about protecting Jewish communities,” she added. “It is about ensuring the digital public square does not continue to erode social stability and serve as a staging ground for extremist violence.” CyberWell is an independent, internationally focused, tech-rooted nonprofit combating the spread of antisemitism online. Its AI-technologies monitor social media in English and Arabic for posts that promulgate antisemitism, Holocaust denial and promote violence against Jews based on the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism. Its analysts review and report this content to platform moderators while indexing all verified posts in the first-ever open database of antisemitic Social Media posts – democratically cataloging it for transparency at: app.cyberwell.org. Through partnerships, education and real-time alerts, CyberWell is holding social media platforms and their moderators accountable, promoting proactive steps against online Jew-hate. • An Evening With Mary Morris, Author Of Gateway To The Moon | sun-times

An Evening With Mary Morris, Author Of Gateway To The Moon Jewish Connection News Jun 4, 2025 On A Warm June Evening In Coral Gables, A Literary Crowd Will Gather At The Beloved Independent Bookstore Books & Books For What Promises To Be An Unforgettable Night Of Storytelling, Music And Mystery. Acclaimed Novelist Mary Morris, Celebrated For Her Evocative Prose And Rich Storytelling, Will Take Center Stage To Present Her Latest Novel—A Lyrical And Haunting Work That Explores Family Secrets, Wartime Silence And The Redemptive Power Of Art. Titled Gateway to the Moon, the novel is quintessential Morris: intimate in scale but expansive in its emotional reach. Best known for her award-winning works such as The Jazz Palace and Nothing to Declare, Morris returns with a gripping, layered story that blends the elements of historical fiction, mystery and a deeply personal search for identity. On Wednesday, June 11th, 2025 at 7:00 p.m., Morris will read from the novel, discuss her inspirations and reflect on the historical undercurrents that inform the narrative. The evening will also feature a musical performance by Susana Behar, a renowned Miami-based singer whose work in Sephardic and Latin American folk music weaves beautifully into the novel’s themes of memory, exile and rediscovery. Behar, whose textured vocals and passion for storytelling through song have earned her critical acclaim, will offer a poignant complement to Morris’s prose. Her presence adds a sensory richness to the event—one that mirrors the emotional and historical resonance of the novel itself. Gateway to the Moon centers on Laura, an artist at a personal and creative crossroads, who is haunted by the disappearance of her mother, Viola, three decades earlier. Viola vanished one day without warning, leaving behind only her purse, keys and a collection of eerie paintings featuring a red house—each inscribed with the cryptic message, “I will not be here forever.” This mysterious legacy propels Laura back to Italy, the place of her mother’s early life and the backdrop of long-buried family secrets. What follows is a moving and suspenseful journey as Laura travels from the coastal town of Brindisi through the Puglia countryside, tracing the fragments of Viola’s life. As she uncovers hidden details of her mother’s past—including her silence about her wartime childhood and her insistence that she was an orphan—Laura begins to see the ways in which history, particularly Italy’s lesser-known experiences during World War II, has shaped her family’s trajectory. In a recent interview, Morris explained that the story was inspired by both personal and historical curiosities. “I’ve always been fascinated by what we inherit—not just genetically, but emotionally, artistically, historically,” she said. “This novel is about a daughter trying to make sense of the silence her mother left behind. In doing so, she comes to understand not only who her mother was, but who she herself is.” Indeed, Gateway to the Moon is as much about solving a mystery as it is about grappling with identity and legacy. Morris’s depiction of post-war Italy is textured and immersive, evoking the sensory details of village life and the shadow of conflict that lingers across generations. The novel’s emotional resonance lies in its willingness to explore loss—not only of people, but of memory, language and connection. As readers follow Laura north through Naples and Turin, the red house in Viola’s paintings becomes both a literal and metaphorical destination. It is a symbol of the past that cannot be undone but can be understood. Morris's writing is at once lyrical and grounded, full of psychological depth and historical insight. The event at Books & Books will offer attendees a rare opportunity to hear directly from Morris about her creative process and the years of research that shaped the novel. With Behar’s music infusing the evening with the emotional tone of the story’s Mediterranean setting, the night promises to be an evocative celebration of art in its many forms. For those who have followed Mary Morris’s career, this latest novel confirms her as a master of storytelling with a gift for weaving personal drama into the fabric of history. And for new readers, Gateway to the Moon is an invitation into a world where the past is never quite past and where love—though complicated—is the ultimate inheritance. Event Details Date: Wednesday, June 11th, 2025 Time: 7:00 p.m. Location: Books & Books, 265 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables, Florida 33134 Special Musical Performance: Susana Behar For more information about the event, contact Books & Books at: (305) 442-4408. • Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation Presents Annual Moral Courage Awards, Honors Ousmane Diallo's Legacy At Yankee Stadium | sun-times

Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation Presents Annual Moral Courage Awards, Honors Ousmane Diallo's Legacy At Yankee Stadium Jewish Connection News Sep 10, 2026 The Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation (AJCF) Presented Its Annual Moral Courage Awards At Yankee Stadium On Sunday, Recognizing Five Individuals For Confronting Antisemitism And Hate And Posthumously Honoring Ousmane Diallo, The 24-Year-Old Harlem Legislative Director Whose Brief Life Was Marked By Public Service And Bridge-Building. The honorees were Rachel Amar, Co-Founder of MODA; Gil Cygler, Board Member of AJCF; Moshe Kinderlehrer, Co-Founder and Co-Publisher of The Jewish Link; Rebecca Sassouni, Of Counsel at Wisselman Harounian Family Law; and Lisa “Malkie” Vider, Operator and Administrator of Oceanview Manor Home for Adults. Diallo served as Legislative Director for New York State Assembly Member Al Taylor (D-Harlem) and died on July 18. His family accepted the posthumous award. A lifelong Harlemite and longtime youth leader with the National Action Network, Diallo devoted himself to public service and youth empowerment. At the time of his death, he was participating in a JCRC-NY Fellowship focused on strengthening relationships between Muslim and Jewish New Yorkers. At the event, Assembly Member Landon Dais (D-Bronx) announced his commitment to allocate a six-figure Capital Grant to support the Infrastructure needed to expand Decode Hate to schools across New York State. During the 2025–2026 academic year, Decode Hate reached more than 25,000 New York City public school students across all five boroughs through a partnership among AJCF, the New York City Council and New York City Public Schools. AJCF plans to begin expanding the program statewide during the 2026–2027 academic year due to the support of the NYS Assembly, NYS Senate and Governor Hochul. Decode Hate combines Holocaust and antisemitism education, digital literacy and civic responsibility. Teacher-led advance and follow-up lessons accompany interactive workshops conducted by trained AJCF facilitators, helping students identify and confront antisemitism, racism, misinformation and online hate. “The Holocaust and slavery are among the darkest chapters in human history. Education helps us understand that pain and stand together against hatred today,” said Assembly Member Dais. “Ousmane dedicated his life to serving Harlem and building bridges between Muslim and Jewish communities. We honor his memory by continuing that work.” “Holocaust memory has meaning only when it changes how the living behave,” said Jack Simony, President and Director General of AJCF. “The people we honored understand that confronting hatred is not someone else’s responsibility. Ousmane Diallo embodied that responsibility in a life cut far too short. Assembly Member Dais’s investment will carry Decode Hate into more classrooms, giving young people the knowledge to recognize hatred and the courage to reject it before it becomes normal.” “After more than 25 years caring for older New Yorkers, I have learned that dignity depends on who shows up when people are most vulnerable,” said Vider. “AJCF teaches young people to recognize hatred early, speak when others are targeted and refuse to stand by. I am honored to receive this award and accept it as a responsibility to continue the work.” About the Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation The Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation transforms Holocaust memory into action through education, leadership development and initiatives confronting antisemitism, hatred and extremism. With operations in New York City and Oswiecim, Poland, AJCF educates students, educators, military officers, diplomats, elected officials and civic leaders to recognize the consequences of hatred and act against it. The Foundation maintains the Auschwitz Jewish Center in Oswiecim, including the town’s last remaining synagogue, a museum and education center, and preserved Jewish heritage sites. Through programs including Decode Hate, the American Service Academies Program and the RISE Leadership Initiative, AJCF prepares current and future leaders to build a more resilient, pluralistic and democratic society. First Cohort Of Wounded IDF Veterans With PTSD Completes Practical Electronics Engineers Training, Immediately Hired By IAI Jewish Connection News Jul 29, 2026 Israel Sci-Tech Schools (ISTS) Rehovot College Recently Marked A Significant Milestone: The Completion Of The First Cohort Of A Unique Program Training Wounded IDF And Security Forces Veterans - The Majority Of Whom Live With PTSD - As Electronics Engineers, In Partnership With Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) And Atidim. 18 graduates of the program - all wounded IDF and security forces veterans, the majority of whom also carry the invisible wounds of PTSD - completed a 17-month professional training course and will now join the workforce at Israel Aerospace Industries. Their academic achievements rank among the highest recorded at the college in recent years. The program was born out of a deep understanding shared by ISTS Rehovot College, Israel Aerospace Industries, and Atidim: there is a moral obligation to offer a new path forward in life to those who gave everything for their country. What began as an employment initiative became, for the staff who accompanied the students, an undertaking rooted in giving, mutual responsibility, and care. Behind every student in the class was a story of heroism, profound loss, and the invisible, ongoing struggle of living with PTSD. The college quickly understood that this was a unique class, requiring extraordinary investment and sensitivity. Beyond its employment dimension, the coursework served as a critical pillar in each student's personal rehabilitation. Israel Aerospace Industries, in turn, gained skilled, high-quality personnel, while the graduates gained a genuine opportunity to build a stable professional future. Following the tremendous success of the first cohort, ISTS Rehovot College has begun recruiting a second cohort in the same format. Those involved see this as proof that combining social sensitivity with technological excellence is the key to genuine rehabilitation and national growth. "At Israel Sci-Tech Schools Network, we believe that education is the driving force leading the society of tomorrow. This means not only imparting knowledge and skills, but enabling every individual to build their own future, rehabilitate, develop, and find their place in Israeli society," said Raz Frohlich, CEO of Israel Sci-Tech Schools Network. "This program perfectly embodies our vision: bridging advanced technological education, social responsibility, and a deep belief in the human capacity to grow even out of crisis. The students who took part in it chose to press forward, acquire a profession, and build their future. In doing so, they are not only changing their own life stories - but they are also partners in building tomorrow's society." What you might not know is that as a toddler she visited theaters where her mom was rehearsing and crawled around on the floor, scrunching herself between seats; that she earnestly believed in Santa Claus for way too long; that she spent years navigating body image issues in hopes of finding elusive self-love; and that she was so overwhelmed and overjoyed when finally meeting her idol David Sedaris that she hid in the bathroom and melted into a “glitter puddle.” The essays in Does This Make Me Funny? introduce us to Zosia Mamet in all her glory—from her early days growing up in literary and dramatic circles, to her years as a young adult pining for acceptance and love, to her first attempts to make it as an actor, to where she and Shosh are now. A gripping, funny, and earnest look at what it means to be a girl in the world and how to define yourself amid the bustle of show business, Does This Make Me Funny? is a captivating debut from a natural-born storyteller. Socol Speaker Series: Yaakov Katz Monday, September 15th, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. Meet up at The Hub to learn about Yaakov Katz’s most recent book, While Israel Slept, a powerful indictment of the political and military decisions that lead to October 7. A reception and signing will follow the talk. While Israel Slept: How Hamas Surprised the Most Powerful Military in the Middle East by Yaakov Katz and Amir Bohbot tells the gripping inside story of how Hamas, Israel’s weakest enemy, succeeded in launching a surprise attack on one of the world’s most powerful militaries. In While Israel Slept, Katz, Former Editor-In-Chief of The Jerusalem Post, and Bohbot, military and defense correspondent for Walla, through a detailed examination of the events leading up to October 7, 2023, expose the intelligence and strategic failures that enabled this devastating invasion. While Israel Slept takes readers back in time, showing how years of complacency, mistaken intelligence analysis, and a misguided policy of containment enabled Hamas to prepare for an assault that Israel did not believe was possible and that would change the Middle East. While Israel Slept unveils the dramatic events of the night before the attack, highlighting the cracks in Israel’s military and political leadership. Katz and Bohbot provide unprecedented details on how key warnings were missed, and how Israel ignored the growing threat from Hamas, believing that the group was weak and deterred. By exposing these failures, While Israel Slept offers a stark, sobering account of how overconfidence and complacency paved the way for disaster, while underscoring the critical lessons Israel must embrace to safeguard its future. • Biblical Women Speak Hearing Their Voices Through New And Ancient Midrash | sun-times

Biblical Women Speak Hearing Their Voices Through New And Ancient Midrash By jps.org Jun 18, 2026 What Were Biblical Women Thinking And Doing When The Men Around Them Received All The Attention And Glory? How Did Leah, Rachel, And Their Handmaids Negotiate The Complicated Family Dynamics Of Four Women Vying For Jacob’s Affections? What Compelled Potiphar’s Wife To Risk Her High Station To Seduce Joseph, An Enslaved Foreigner? How Did The Midwives And Pharoah’s Daughter Conspire To Rescue Baby Moses, Right Under Pharoah’s Nose? Biblical Women Speak employs midrash (interpretative techniques) to discover ten biblical women’s stories from a female point of view and provide insights beyond how ancient male scholars viewed them. Each chapter brings alive a different biblical woman, including non-Israelite characters and others who are neglected in classical rabbinic texts, such as Keturah (Abraham’s last wife), Bat Shuah (Judah’s wife), Shelomith (the infamous blasphemer’s mother), and Noah (one of Zelophehad’s brave daughters who demanded inheritance rights). After each featured text we hear a creative retelling of the woman’s story in her own voice, followed by traditional midrash and medieval commentaries and the author’s reflections on how these tales and interpretations are relevant for today. Rabbi Marla J. Feldman’s book is an engaging invitation to enter biblical narratives, challenge conventional wisdom, and recalibrate the stories and lessons through the lens of our own lives. Praise “Meeting these new role models of Jewish womanhood—some famous, others voiceless or infamous and nameless in the Torah—left me both enlightened and delighted. Reading the biblical text, rabbinic commentary, modern midrash, and Rabbi Feldman’s contemporary commentary illuminated four dimensions of these remarkable women.”—Maggie Anton, author of Rashi’s Daughters. “Rabbi Marla J. Feldman is a marvelous teacher, and in Biblical Women Speak she proves to also be a weaver of ancient, modern, and original texts that give voice to women of the Bible who were often ignored or nameless, filling a void that has existed for centuries. Accessible for both beginner and advanced students, Biblical Women Speak should be required in any class of midrash.”—Rabbi Ellen S. Wolintz-Fields, Executive Director, Women’s League for Conservative Judaism. “Rabbi Marla Feldman has created a dynamic and compelling conversation among the generations. Both individuals and groups will admire her captivating modern midrashic interpretations and her expert navigation of traditional texts. Feldman shows us how fresh and relevant our sacred tradition can be!”—Rabbi Mary L. Zamore, Executive Director, Women’s Rabbinic Network. “Rabbi Marla Feldman has added an imaginative, insightful contribution to our collective Jewish library. As she creatively gives voice to both familiar and lesser-known female biblical characters, she shows why their stories matter for us as contemporary readers.”—Rabbi Andrea L. Weiss, Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Provost, Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion. “I am very impressed by the author’s creativity and in-depth understanding of her characters… There are ten retellings (or stories) in this stunning collection… Most of the stories focus on characters that we don’t usually think about… What is most interesting to me is how she enables us to empathize with these marginal biblical women. The book is arranged meticulously and is clearly well-researched… I plan to use Feldman’s fascinating midrashim…in my future classes.”—Naomi Graetz, Times of Israel blog. “Women in the Bible are often unnamed, defined solely by their relationships with others. Take Judah’s wife, for example. She is known as Bat Shua, or ‘daughter of Shua.’ This labeling, or lack thereof, makes it easy for stories like hers to be subsumed by those of men. Feldman, by contrast, dives into these women’s stories, bringing them to life with depth and insight. Feldman’s analysis of Miriam’s story is a standout of the book.”—Jewish Book Council. “For the most part the sages neglected these minor [female] characters or viewed them negatively. Feldman brings this conversation into the modern era: She composes midrashim that turn these biblical characters into real human beings, facing problems familiar to those of women (and men) today…who deserve our attention and our respect, and who should never be cast out of our community.”—Moment Magazine. “Readers looking to better understand midrash will particularly enjoy the sections on classic commentary, while those interested in new ways of understanding the text will find the contemporary midrash of interest. Biblical Women Speak would also make an excellent text for Torah discussion groups.”—The Reporter, Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton. “An inspirational book which speaks to us of the issues of our times… through Jewish classical, modern and feminist lenses… A masterpiece of scholarship, creativity and exquisite writing.”—The Jerusalem Report. “Like the traditional rabbis and commentators, [Rabbi] Feldman tells biblical verses, and midrashic commentaries, and lifts them out of their context, refashions them, and creates new understandings which can speak to us in our day.”—Women in Judaism e-journal. “Few things are more powerful than bringing a voice to the voiceless. Biblical Women Speak is an excellent model for what bringing a voice to the voiceless can look like in the twenty-first century. Our rabbinic community will benefit from the masterful work.”–CCAR Journal: The Reform Jewish Quarterly. • Lionel Richie & Earth, Wind & Fire Light Up Hard Rock Live — And The Surprising Jewish Connections In Lionel’s Family | sun-times

Lionel Richie & Earth, Wind & Fire Light Up Hard Rock Live — And The Surprising Jewish Connections In Lionel’s Family By Neil Keller - Keller’s Korner Jul 29, 2026 Welcome To Keller’s Korner. Legendary Singer Lionel Richie Has Been A Nationally Known Entertainer For Five Decades, And His Popularity Shows No Signs Of Slowing. He Has Performed At Hard Rock Live In Hollywood, Florida Three Times Over The Years, And The Crowd Went Wild Again During His Latest Show On July 24. The July 24 show was completely sold out, and the staff at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood did a fantastic job. Everyone we spoke with said they had a wonderful time. Earth, Wind & Fire Set the Tone Earth, Wind & Fire opened the night with a string of fan favorites, including: “Let’s Groove,” “September,” “Boogie Wonderland,” “Fantasy” and “Shining Star.” Their energy set the stage perfectly for Lionel’s entrance. Lionel Richie Takes Over Lionel followed with a set of his big hits. Although he performs solo now, he was once a lead singer of The Commodores. His biggest songs include: “Three Times a Lady,” “All Night Long (All Night),” “Endless Love” (with Diana Ross) and “Hello.” Crowd Reaction The crowd clearly loved both acts. Melissa Rubin of Miami said of the concert, “It was beyond my expectations. I had seen Earth, Wind & Fire before, but not Lionel Richie. Both of them were great.” Wendy Peters of Delray Beach was all smiles after the concert. She said, “The concert was phenomenal. We saw them both performing together last year. Earth, Wind & Fire has so much energy, and the crowd was fired up. Three original singers are still with the group.” Wendy added, “I loved when Lionel Richie was talking with the crowd. I had tears in my eyes when Lionel paid tribute to his late friend and singer Kenny Rogers. It was so exciting when Lionel sang “We are the World.” I enjoyed every minute of the concert.” Madeleine Romanello of Miami said, “It was unbelievable how they are so good and better than their records. It was two big stars which made it special as it was 2 for 1. I love music from the 1970s and 1980s. I also loved hearing Lionel Richie talking about Live Aid as that brought back great memories of these movements of people coming together.” Family Matters — And a Surprising Jewish Connection Family has always been central to Lionel Richie’s life. His classic song “Three Times a Lady” was inspired by a toast his father gave to Lionel’s mother at their 37th wedding anniversary. Learning how important family is to Lionel led me to research the Jewish connections within his family, which many fans at Hard Rock likely did not know. Lionel has three children: Nicole Richie, 44, Miles Richie, 32 and Sofia Richie Grainge, 27 There has long been confusion about whether Lionel’s second wife, Diane Alexander (mother of Miles and Sofia), is Jewish. Some people claim she is, but there is no confirmed evidence. Sofia Richie Grainge Sofia has been in the public eye since her teens. She dated actor Scott Disick, who is Jewish, for three years. Their relationship drew heavy paparazzi attention, especially because Scott was a figure on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Sofia and Scott were often seen vacationing with the Kardashian family. Seven months after that relationship ended, Sofia began dating Elliot Grainge, a Jewish music executive. Elliot is the son of Sir Lucian Grainge, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group since 2010. Once again, the paparazzi followed Sofia closely. In April 2022, Sofia announced her engagement to Elliot. Although she was born Christian, she chose to convert to Judaism before the wedding. She told Vogue: “It was very important to Elliot’s family and to me, now that I have converted, that it be a traditional Jewish ceremony.” Sofia and Elliot were married on April 22, 2023, in Antibes, France, a beautiful city on the French Riviera. Rabbi Thomas Salamon of England officiated. The ceremony included a chuppah and ketubah signing. Sofia explained that they legally married in the United States just before leaving for France: “We got married at home with just our parents. We read our vows then because we felt it was very personal — something for just our families to hear.” Her sister Nicole emceed the event in the United States. Sofia added, “It was hysterical. It was filled with comedy. My dad, Elliot’s dad, and Elliot’s best friend, Jack, gave incredible speeches. It was very sweet—truly unbelievable!” Lionel proudly walked his daughter down the aisle. Sofia and Elliot now have two children and are raising them Jewish. Lionel’s family story adds a fascinating cultural layer to one of America’s most beloved entertainers. Nicole & Miles Richie Nicole, Lionel’s oldest, became famous through the reality show “The Simple Life” with Paris Hilton (2003–2007). She has appeared in numerous TV shows and films. She dated DJ Adam Goldstein (DJ AM) for three years, and later married singer Joel Madden. Some people claim Joel has a Jewish mother, but there is no verified evidence. Miles, Lionel’s middle child, is a model. As with Diane Alexander, some claim she is Jewish, but again, no confirmed proof exists. A Fun Night at Hard Rock Live Fans at Hard Rock Live came for the hits — and they got them. But few likely knew about the Jewish connections within Lionel Richie’s family, especially Sofia’s conversion and her traditional Jewish wedding. Lionel Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire continues to bring joy to audiences worldwide. Neil Keller is a Jewish historian. Visit: www.NeilKeller.com to learn who is Jewish. Lionel Richie has been a nationally known entertainer for five decades. Fans at Hard Rock Live came for the hits. The July 24 show was completely sold out. Earth, Wind & Fire Set the Tone.
