City Of Sunny Isles Beach Celebrates The Grand Opening Of New Meditation Garden
June 20, 2024
In a significant stride towards promoting health and wellness, the City of Sunny Isles Beach proudly announces a new addition to the city — the Meditation Garden at Town Center Park. This serene oasis, nestled in the heart of our vibrant urban community, provides a space for reflection, meditation, and appreciation of art.
The city held a grand opening event on Wednesday, May 29th at Town Center Park, located 17200 Collins Avenue, Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160. Residents, ages 18 and older, were invited to experience a unique evening featuring live music by Renowned Pianist Murray Hidary from MindTravel. Guests were immersed in a meditative experience, guided by soothing melodies through headphones.
“I hope this becomes a place for all residents to cherish, especially for those who live in condos,” said Mayor Larisa Svechin. “Let’s appreciate the open green space and truly enjoy our city.”
This new Meditation Garden is the only park within city limits dedicated solely to adults. While the city has 11 parks with playgrounds for families and children, this garden offers a peaceful, slow-paced space for adults to enjoy. It features an ADA-Accessible Path that allows park-goers to stroll through and enjoy the natural surroundings. The garden also offers seating benches along the path and in central areas. Additionally, a new art installation by Artist Mike Szabo adds a unique touch to this tranquil environment.
“This is a place for you to meditate, walk around, read a book, we’re going to have Yoga, and we’re going to have art events,” said Mayor Svechin.
Originally envisioned by the City’s Public Arts Advisory Committee, the Meditation Garden is a testament to the community’s commitment to creating spaces to enhance quality of life for all its residents. The committee played a decisive role in the design and layout of the garden.
Meditation has a history that goes back thousands of years, and many meditative techniques began in Eastern traditions. The term “meditation” refers to a variety of practices that focus on mind and body integration and are used to calm the mind and enhance Overall Well-Being. Some types of meditation involve maintaining mental focus on a particular sensation, such as breathing, a sound, a visual image, or a mantra, which is a repeated word or phrase. Other forms of meditation include the practice of mindfulness, which involves maintaining attention or awareness of the present moment without making judgments.
The Meditation Garden is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. This outdoor sanctuary is for adults only.
