Kids Get Free Meals This Summer: BreakSpot & 17th Annual Children's Book Fest
June 9, 2022
Children who depend on school meals during the year often miss out on these wholesome meals during the summer months. But here’s how we can prevent that. Summer BreakSpot offers balanced breakfasts, lunches, snacks or dinners at no cost for kids 18 and under, Monday, June 13th, 2022 - Friday, August 12th, 2022.
Meals are served on site, at no cost, at places like parks, libraries, schools and churches. After schools close for the summer, kids and teens can still get free meals through this service. No application is necessary, just show up to one of the thousands of meal sites across Florida. Here are two locations close by for you to visit:
• Hallandale Beach Branch Library 300 South Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, Florida 33009
• South Regional/Broward College Library 7300 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pines, Florida 33024
If you’re not familiar with Summer BreakSpot and have additional questions, contact their Office At: InfoFNW@FDACS.gov. Or by Phone At: 1 (800) 504-6609. You can also find a location by texting the word “Food” or “Comida” to 304-304. All sites serve nutritionally balanced meals that meet USDA Guidelines.
Who funds the Summer BreakSpot?
The Summer BreakSpot Program, also known as the Summer Food Service Program, is federally funded under the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and in Florida, administered by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Sites are locally operated by Non-Profit Organizations (sponsors) that provide the meals and receive a reimbursement from the USDA.
