  • Seeing The Possibilities - Living With Low Vision | sun-times

Seeing The Possibilities - Living With Low Vision By Family Features Feb 25, 2026 Millions Of Americans Are Living Low Vision, A Visual Impairment That Can Turn Everyday Moments - Recognizing A Friend's Face Across The Street, Reading A Recipe Or Checking A Text Message - Into Unexpected Challenges. Low vision isn't a natural part of getting older, though the conditions that cause it do become more common with age. Whether low vision is affecting you or a loved one, Low Vision Awareness Month is a perfect time to have your eyes examined for signs of eye diseases and to take steps to make daily life easier if you are experiencing low vision. Consider this information from the National Eye Institute to make the most of your vision and improve your quality of life. Understanding low vision You may have low vision if you can't see well enough to read, drive, recognize faces, distinguish colors or see screens clearly. Many different eye conditions can cause low vision, but the most common causes are age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, a condition that can cause vision loss in people with diabetes. The most common types of low vision are: • Central vision loss (not being able to see things in the center of your vision) • Peripheral vision loss (not being able to see things out of the corners of your eyes) • Night blindness (not being able to see in low light) • Blurry or hazy vision Diagnosing low vision Your doctor can check for low vision as part of a simple, painless comprehensive dilated eye exam. He or she will ask you to read letters that are up close and far away and will check whether you can see things in the center and at the edges of your vision. Then eye drops are used to widen your pupils and check for other eye problems - including conditions that could cause low vision. Low vision is usually permanent, but glasses, medicine or surgery may help with daily activities or slow progression. Living with low vision If you have low vision, you aren't alone. There are steps you can take to make life easier. For minor vision loss, simple adjustments like using brighter lights, wearing anti-glare sunglasses and using magnifiers can help. Changing the settings on your phone and computer to increase contrast, make text larger or have the device read out loud may also help. If your vision loss is getting in the way of everyday activities, ask your eye doctor about vision rehabilitation. These services can give you skills and resources to help manage your daily life and keep your independence. Examples include: • Employment and job training • Environmental modifications, like improving lighting and contrast • Assistive devices and technologies, like magnifiers, filters and screen readers • Adaptive strategies for daily living and independent living skills training • Emotional support, like counseling or support groups • Transportation and household services Finding the right vision rehabilitation services and support may take time, but working closely with your eye doctor or care team is an important first step. Discuss your needs and goals for living with your visual impairment so they can help identify the best services for you. • Helping Kids Make Money Lessons Real In A Digital Age | sun-times

Helping Kids Make Money Lessons Real In A Digital Age By Family Features Nov 20, 2025 In Today's World, It's Rare For Kids To Hand Over A Few Crumpled Dollar Bills For A Purchase. Most Transactions Happen Online Or With A Tap Of A Card, Which Can Make Money Feel Less Tangible To The Next Generation. However, That Shift Doesn't Mean Financial Lessons Have To Get Lost - It Just Means They Should Be Taught Differently. From budgeting for a favorite purchase to learning about investing, the digital landscape provides ample opportunities to help kids build smart habits. Teach Real-World Money Management with Digital Tools One way to start is with a kid-friendly debit card connected to an app. These accounts allow children to manage their own spending while parents monitor activity. Being able to check balances in real time - and seeing the impact of a purchase immediately - helps kids understand budgeting in a hands-on way. When the balance gets low, the lesson is clear. Parents can also use digital purchases as teachable moments. A $10 virtual item in a game might sound appealing, but comparing it to something tangible, like a trip to the movies or a special snack, can help kids think about trade-offs and decide what's worth the money. Use Saving Goals and Compound Interest to Encourage Smart Habits Saving is another concept technology can make more tangible. Setting a goal such as a new bike, a sports jersey or a piece of tech becomes more engaging when children can track their progress visually. Some apps even offer interest on savings, giving kids a first glimpse of how money can grow over time. As children grow into teens, their curiosity about money often expands into investing. This can be an ideal time to open a custodial brokerage account and explore concepts like diversification, risk and long-term strategy. Purchasing fractional shares of companies they recognize can make the learning process relatable. Teach Credit, Debt and Security Early It's also important to cover topics like credit, debt and security before kids start managing money on their own. Teens should understand how borrowing works, why paying bills on time matters and how to protect themselves from identity theft. In some cases, freezing a minor's credit until they are older can be a smart precaution. Keep the Conversation Going Above all, money lessons should be an ongoing conversation. Asking kids what they're hearing from friends, teachers or online sources can lead to meaningful discussions and create teachable moments. The tools may have changed, but the goal remains the same: helping kids develop the skills and confidence to manage money wisely. By meeting them where they are in the digital world, parents can make financial lessons real, relevant and lasting. Visit: www.schwabmoneywise.com for more ideas on how to help kids start saving, investing and more with videos, quizzes and articles designed especially for teens. Previous Next

  • Protect Your Heart And Brain By Knowing The Signs And Symptoms Of AFib | sun-times

Protect Your Heart And Brain By Knowing The Signs And Symptoms Of AFib By Feature Impact Sep 17, 2026 There Are A Lot Of Things That Can Make Your Heart Flutter, Race Or Skip A Beat. In A Figurative Sense, It Could Be A Smile From A Loved One, A Jump Scare In A Movie Or The Moment The Roller Coaster Car Tips Over The Top Of The Hill. In A Much More Literal Sense, An Irregular Heartbeat Might Mean You're Experiencing Atrial Fibrillation, Or Afib. Symptoms of AFib aren't always as obvious as those adrenaline-inducing moments. In fact, according to research from the American Heart Association, 62% of people with AFib had no prior knowledge of the condition before being diagnosed. Since AFib can increase your chances of having a Stroke by up to five times, educating yourself early could be a powerful way to protect your long-term health. AFib is a type of Arrhythmia, or Heart Rhythm Disorder, that happens when your heart's electrical signals fire abnormally, causing an irregular heartbeat. More than 10 million people in the U.S. live with AFib, so if you're one of them, there are plenty of ways to find connection, support and resources to help. "It's important for people to understand their risk factors, recognize potential symptoms and have regular conversations with their healthcare professional," said Dr. Javier Sanchez, HCA Healthcare Cardiac Electrophysiologist. "Early detection and proactive management can make a life-saving difference." This expert information can help you understand what to look for and what steps to take if you or a loved one are living with AFib. Common Symptoms Although AFib doesn't always cause noticeable symptoms, knowing the signs can help you protect your health. AFib can feel like a fluttering feeling in your chest, a pounding heart or skipped heartbeats. Some people also feel fatigued, dizzy or short of breath. Symptoms can come and go, and they may range from mild to more severe. Experiencing any sort of heart symptom can be scary and overwhelming but try to stay calm and pay attention to the feeling so you can describe it to your doctor. Risk Factors Anyone can develop AFib, but certain factors make it more or less likely. Some risk factors for Arrhythmia - like getting older or having it in your family history - are unavoidable. Others, like smoking, drinking alcohol or living with uncontrolled High Blood Pressure, put the power in your hands to make risk-reducing changes. People with Diabetes, Obesity, Sleep Apnea or other heart conditions are also more likely to experience AFib. The Connection Between AFib and Stroke When the heart beats irregularly, it means blood can't move through the heart efficiently. That can cause blood clots, which in turn may block blood flow to the brain and lead to a Stroke. Although Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in the U.S., it is largely preventable and treatable. Even someone who has already had a Stroke can recover, manage their condition and put themselves on the road to better health. Diagnosing AFib Catching AFib early can make a meaningful difference, so even if you haven't experienced any glaring symptoms, it's wise to communicate with your doctor about your risk factors and concerns. Your healthcare team may run tests to confirm a diagnosis and recommend the best course of action for you. Treatment Options Depending on the stage of your AFib, your doctor might suggest medication, surgical or non-surgical procedures or lifestyle changes such as the American Heart Association's Life's Essential 8 to support your Heart Health. Staying physically active, quitting tobacco, maintaining a healthy weight and controlling your Blood Pressure, among other steps, can help you manage Heart Conditions and reduce your future risk of Stroke. Remember: Prevention is the best cure, so even if you haven't received an Arrhythmia diagnosis, you can start working toward these healthier habits. • Intimate Wine Tastings At The Broward Center - One Of Only 279 Master Sommeliers In The World Leads Entertaining And Engaging “Blind” Tasting | sun-times

Intimate Wine Tastings At The Broward Center - One Of Only 279 Master Sommeliers In The World Leads Entertaining And Engaging “Blind” Tasting South Florida Sun Times Apr 10, 2025 The world of wine is as complex as it is captivating, and there's no better way to dive into its intricacies than with an intimate, expert-led tasting. At the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, wine enthusiasts have the rare opportunity to do just that. On Sunday, April 27th, and Sunday, May 25th at 1:30 p.m., the legendary Master Sommelier George Miliotes will host an engaging “blind” wine tasting experience at Marti’s Bistro at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, offering guests a chance to savor renowned red and white wines while learning the art of blind tasting. This unique event not only allows participants to explore a curated selection of wines but also provides a behind-the-scenes look at Miliotes’ incredible journey in the world of wine. The Journey to Master Sommelier George Miliotes is one of only 279 Master Sommeliers in the world, a title that signifies the highest level of expertise in the field of wine. To become a Master Sommelier, candidates must pass a grueling series of examinations that test their knowledge of wine, including their ability to identify wines by taste, sight, and aroma. This prestigious designation is awarded to only the most skilled and knowledgeable professionals in the industry, making Miliotes' achievements not just impressive but extraordinary. His passion for wine is evident in his unrelenting pursuit of knowledge, which has taken him to renowned wine-growing regions across the globe—from the rolling vineyards of France to the sun-drenched hills of South Africa. Miliotes’ deep connection to wine is not just academic; it is rooted in a true love of the craft. He has spent years studying and curating a portfolio of wines that reflect his dedication to quality, and his unique approach to wine education makes his tastings both informative and fun. For Miliotes, wine is more than just a drink—it's a medium for storytelling, a gateway into cultures, history, and the art of sensory exploration. This philosophy is what makes his blind tastings at Marti’s Bistro a must-attend event for anyone interested in elevating their wine experience. A Blind Tasting Like No Other One of the key features of Miliotes’ upcoming wine tasting is the “blind” element. Guests will be served six carefully selected wines—both red and white varietals—without knowing what they are in advance. The goal of a blind tasting is to focus purely on the sensory experience: the taste, aroma, and appearance of each wine. As participants sip and savor, they are encouraged to engage their senses and use their instincts to identify the wines' characteristics, including their flavor profiles, origin, and varietal. For many, a blind tasting is a fun challenge that encourages learning through discovery. Each glass reveals a new layer of complexity, and Miliotes will be there to guide guests through the experience, sharing his insights into the nuances of each wine. The tasting is not just an opportunity to sample wine; it’s a chance to understand the story behind each bottle. Miliotes will discuss the vineyards, winemaking processes, and the factors that make each wine unique, giving guests a deeper appreciation for what they’re tasting. A Feast for the Senses: Charcuterie and Scenic Views The intimate setting of Marti’s Bistro, with its picturesque views of the New River and downtown Fort Lauderdale, sets the perfect stage for this wine adventure. Guests will sip their wines while overlooking the tranquil water, creating a sensory experience that engages not just the taste buds but all the senses. As each glass is poured, lively conversations will spark around the table, as wine lovers and novices alike exchange their thoughts and impressions. No wine tasting is complete without a bite to complement the flavors in the glass, and at this event, guests will be treated to a shareable charcuterie board. The selection of meats, cheeses, and accompaniments will be carefully curated to pair perfectly with the wines, enhancing the tasting experience. Whether you’re savoring a rich red or a crisp white, the charcuterie will provide the perfect balance of salty, savory, and creamy flavors to elevate each sip. • Step Into A Colorful World - The Charley Harper Exhibit Opens At The Museum Of Discovery And Science | sun-times

Step Into A Colorful World - The Charley Harper Exhibit Opens At The Museum Of Discovery And Science South Florida Sun Times Aug 27, 2026 A Rainforest Alive With Color. A Sky Filled With Birds. A Woodland Where Animals And Insects Are Waiting To Be Found. I AM WILD: A Charley Harper Exhibit Opens At The Museum Of Discovery And Science (MODS) On Friday, September 18th, 2026 Inviting Families To Experience The Natural World Through The Distinctive Artwork Of Wildlife Artist Charley Harper. Through bold colors, playful geometry and hands-on experiences, the limited-time exhibition invites guests to see the natural world through the eyes of renowned American Wildlife Artist Charley Harper. Children and families will explore six distinct habitats, including the desert, rainforest, ocean, sky, woods and city, while discovering the remarkable variety of life found within them and the connections that help ecosystems thrive. The exhibition will remain at MODS through Monday, January 11th, 2027. Harper described his distinctive artistic approach as “minimal realism.” Rather than illustrating every feather, scale or blade of grass, he used simple geometric forms, vivid colors and visual humor to capture the essential character of wildlife. Inspired by the children’s book series I Am Wild and Harper’s broader body of work exploring biodiversity, the exhibition turns his art into an immersive experience filled with opportunities to observe, create, listen, move and play. “Charley Harper had an extraordinary ability to reveal the complexity of nature through deceptively simple images,” said Joseph P. Cox, President and CEO of MODS. “In I AM WILD, children are not simply looking at art. They are stepping inside it, interacting with it and using it as a gateway to scientific discovery. The exhibition encourages families to slow down, notice the relationships within each habitat and understand that every living thing has a role in the larger story of our planet.” The exhibition is presented by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and sponsored by Florida Prepaid College Savings Plans. I AM WILD: A Charley Harper Exhibit was created by Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh in partnership with Charley Harper Art Studio. Hands-on exhibit experiences include: • The Art Studio, where guests can create original artwork inspired by Harper’s use of geometric shapes, bold colors and minimal realism. • Interactive Habitat Poster Kiosks, featuring multisensory interpretations of Harper’s iconic habitat posters and the wildlife represented within them. • The Woodland Ball Run, where children can experiment with motion while playing hide-and-seek among animals and insects found in the woods. • Canopy Calliope, an interactive musical machine that allows guests to combine bird calls and compose their own nature-inspired soundscapes. • Be Wild Imagination Habitat, where children can flap, crawl, leap and move like their favorite creatures or invent entirely new ways to “be wild.” Guests also can view a collection of Harper’s artwork highlighting recurring subjects, artistic techniques and the distinctive visual language he developed throughout his career. I AM WILD: A Charley Harper Exhibit is included with Museum admission and will be open during regular Museum hours: Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. Noon to 5:00 p.m. For Museum information and tickets, visit: https://mods.org . • 'Autism Epidemic Runs Rampant,' - New Data Shows 1 In 31 Children Afflicted | sun-times

'Autism Epidemic Runs Rampant,' - New Data Shows 1 In 31 Children Afflicted South Florida Sun Times Apr 24, 2025 Autism Prevalence In The U.S. Has Increased From 1 In 36 Children To 1 in 31, According To The Centers For Disease Control And Prevention’s (CDC) Latest Autism And Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network Survey Published Today In CDC’s Morbidity And Mortality Weekly Report. “The Autism Epidemic is running rampant,” said U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. “One in 31 American children born in 2014 are disabled by Autism. That’s up significantly from two years earlier and nearly five times higher than when the CDC first started running Autism surveys in children born in 1992. Prevalence for boys is an astounding 1 in 20 and in California it’s 1 in 12.5.” “President Trump has tasked me with identifying the root causes of the Childhood Chronic Disease Epidemic -- including Autism,” Secretary Kennedy continued. “We are assembling teams of world-class scientists to focus research on the origins of the epidemic and we expect to begin to have answers by September.” The new ADDM Report was conducted in 2022 across 16 sites in the U.S. and surveyed children aged 8 years born in 2014. This latest Autism prevalence is 4.8 times higher than in the first ADDM survey 22 years ago, when prevalence was 1 in 150 children. The increase in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) prevalence cannot be solely attributed to the expansion of diagnoses to include higher functioning children. On the contrary, the percentage of ASD Cases with higher IQs (> 85) has decreased steadily over the last six ADDM Reports to 36.1% in the 2022 Survey. Nearly two thirds of children with ASD in the latest survey had either severe or borderline Intellectual Disability (ID). Minority children were more severely affected. Black, Asian, and Hispanic children in the 2022 Survey had higher overall ASD prevalence (3.66%, 3.82%, and 3.30%, respectively) than White children (2.77%), and were also more likely to have a more severe form of autism. Among Black, Asian, and Hispanic children, 78.9%, 66.5%, and 63.9%, respectively, had either severe or borderline ID, compared to 55.6% of Whites. This report exposes a series of critical public health crises, including a persistent rise in ASD prevalence, an alarming escalation in case severity, and increasingly stark disparities across racial and ethnic groups. This also highlights the urgent need for real-time data. A deeply troubling finding in the survey is that among children aged 4 years born in 2018, the overall ASD prevalence rate is 2.93% (1 in 34). Prevalence rates typically rise as children age from 4 to 8 and more cases are diagnosed. Compared to the 8-year-olds in the new report, the 4-year-olds showed wider differences by race and ethnicity. Overall prevalence among Black, Asian, and Hispanic children in this group was 3.5%, 3.11%, and 3.82%, respectively, compared to 2.04% among White children. “The Autism Epidemic has now reached a scale unprecedented in human history because it affects the young,” said HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. “The risks and costs of this crisis are a thousand times more threatening to our country than COVID-19. Autism is preventable and it is unforgivable that we have not yet identified the underlying causes. We should have had these answers 20 years ago.” Previous Next

  • The Wagyu House Brings Butcher-Driven Approach To The Modern Steakhouse Experience - Gabriel Llaurado, Co-Founder Of Meat N’ Bone, Delves Into The Butcher-Forward Dining Experience Taking Shape In Hallandale Beach, Florida | sun-times

The Wagyu House Brings Butcher-Driven Approach To The Modern Steakhouse Experience - Gabriel Llaurado, Co-Founder Of Meat N’ Bone, Delves Into The Butcher-Forward Dining Experience Taking Shape In Hallandale Beach, Florida By Merilee Kern, MBA Sep 10, 2026 South Florida Has No Shortage Of Steakhouses Promising Premium Cuts And Lavish Dining. The Wagyu House In Hallandale Beach, Just North Of Miami, Enters That Crowded Field From A Decidedly Different Direction. Rather Than Building A Restaurant Concept First And Sourcing The Beef To Fit It, The Team Started With Years Of Experience On The Other Side Of The Butcher Counter. Meat N’ Bone Had Already Developed Its Business Around Sourcing, Butchering, Selling And Educating Consumers About Premium Proteins Before Creating The Wagyu House. The Restaurant Effectively Brings That Expertise Into The Dining Room, Giving Guests The Opportunity To Taste The Distinctions They May Have Previously Encountered Only As Grades, Origins And Marbling Scores. That foundation is especially relevant as Wagyu has become an increasingly familiar presence on steakhouse menus, even though the term itself tells you relatively little about what will ultimately arrive on your plate. USDA Prime, American Wagyu and Japanese A5 can deliver dramatically different experiences in richness, texture, marbling and flavor. Even within Japanese A5, region, producer, breed, cut and Beef Marbling Score can change the experience considerably. At The Wagyu House, the idea is to make those distinctions approachable and help diners determine what suits their own palate rather than assume that the rarest or most expensive option must automatically be the best choice. Located at Atlantic Village at 601 North Federal Highway, The Wagyu House puts that philosophy into practice through a menu that encourages exploration. Michelin-trained Chef Chucho Rojas leads a kitchen with direct access to Meat N’ Bone’s sourcing network and broad portfolio of premium proteins. The restaurant pairs that butcher-driven approach with a garden-view dining room, marble bar and tropical patio, along with an integrated Meat N’ Bone boutique where guests can purchase premium proteins after experiencing them at the table. It creates an uncommon progression from tasting to understanding to potentially recreating part of the experience at home. The menu makes a strong case for comparison. Charred Wagyu Tartare puts the restaurant’s defining protein front and center, while Garlic Butter Jumbo Crab Cakes demonstrate that its ingredient standards extend beyond beef. Among the steaks, the Denver Steak Wagyu BMS7+ offers the structure and beefiness familiar to American steak lovers along with heightened marbling and richness. Japanese A5 Miyazaki-Gyu Ribeye moves into altogether different territory, with intense marbling, richness and a texture intended to be savored in smaller bites. Japanese BBQ Glazed Salmon provides another route through the menu for diners who want something outside the steak program. What emerges is a more personal proposition than simply ordering an extravagant cut of beef. You might arrive assuming Wagyu represents a single pinnacle of steak and discover that you prefer American Wagyu to Japanese A5, a Denver cut to ribeye, or a particular degree of marbling. That process of discovery is central to what The Wagyu House wants the meal to accomplish. In the following exclusive interview, Gabriel Llaurado, Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer of Meat N’ Bone, explains how years of sourcing and butcher expertise shaped The Wagyu House, what diners should understand before paying a premium for Wagyu, how the restaurant helps guests navigate dramatically different cuts and grades, and why the ultimate measure of a successful meal here is not necessarily ordering the most expensive steak. It is leaving with a clearer understanding of what you actually like. MK: What is still under-told about The Wagyu House, and what makes its foundation different from that of a traditional steakhouse? GL: What I think is still under-told is that The Wagyu House is not simply another steakhouse that serves Wagyu. It was created by Meat N’ Bone, a company that spent years sourcing, butchering, selling and educating consumers about premium proteins before we ever opened this restaurant. That gives us a very different foundation. We can introduce guests to different grades, cuts, origins and styles of Wagyu and help them understand why they taste different. The goal is not just to serve an expensive steak; it is to create a place where guests can discover what they actually like. MK: What are the three things that most clearly set the restaurant apart? GL: First is access and sourcing. Through Meat N’ Bone, we have relationships and purchasing capabilities that give us access to exceptional Japanese and American Wagyu programs, specialty cuts and premium proteins. Second is education and variety. Wagyu is not one product. We want guests to experience the difference between USDA Prime, American Wagyu, Japanese A5, different marbling levels, cuts and Japanese regions rather than simply seeing “Wagyu” written on a menu. Third is the connection between restaurant and the Meat N’ Bone shop. Guests can have an incredible protein in the dining room and then walk into the integrated Meat N’ Bone boutique and continue that experience at home. MK: How does the Meat N’ Bone foundation influence sourcing, menu development and quality control? GL: It influences almost everything. A traditional restaurant often develops a menu and then looks for products that fit it. Because of Meat N’ Bone, we can sometimes work in the opposite direction: we discover an extraordinary producer, cut or protein and then ask ourselves how we can showcase it at the restaurant. We already have relationships with producers and suppliers, purchasing volume, receiving infrastructure and years of experience evaluating proteins. Our team understands grading, marbling, aging, specifications, provenance and how products perform. That means quality control does not begin when a box arrives at the restaurant. It starts with sourcing. MK: Wagyu can mean very different things. What should diners understand before ordering? GL: One of the biggest misconceptions is treating “Wagyu” as if it were one product. USDA Prime is an American grading designation. American Wagyu generally involves Wagyu genetics raised in the United States and can offer an incredible balance between marbling and the traditional steak experience. Japanese A5 is something very different again, with much more intense marbling, richness and a unique texture. Even within Japanese A5, region, producer, breed, BMS score and cut can dramatically change the experience. We try to make that approachable rather than intimidating. For consumers, I think transparency matters. If a restaurant is charging a premium for Wagyu, you should be able to understand what you are eating: country of origin, grade, cut and ideally the producer or region when relevant. MK: How would you guide a first-time guest choosing between the Denver Steak Wagyu BMS7+ and Japanese A5 Miyazaki-Gyu Ribeye? GL: They are both Wagyu experiences, but they are dramatically different. The Denver Steak Wagyu BMS7+ is intensely flavorful and beautifully marbled, but it still has the structure and beefiness people associate with a traditional steak. It is a great choice for someone who wants the tenderness and richness of premium Wagyu while still eating a substantial steak. The Japanese A5 Miyazaki-Gyu Ribeye is much more decadent. The marbling is extraordinary, the fat melts at a very low temperature, and the texture can almost dissolve on the palate. If someone is trying Wagyu for the first time, we ask what they normally enjoy. If they love a classic steak experience, I may guide them toward the Denver. If they want to understand what makes Japanese A5 completely different from American beef, Miyazaki is an incredible introduction. Our job is not to sell somebody the most expensive steak. It is to help them order the steak they are going to enjoy the most. MK: The menu also reaches beyond steak. What do the Charred Wagyu Tartare, Jumbo Crab Cakes and Japanese BBQ Glazed Salmon reveal about the restaurant? GL: The Charred Wagyu Tartare is very representative of our beef philosophy. The objective is to preserve the richness and texture of the Wagyu while using char and seasoning to add another layer of flavor without overwhelming the beef. The Jumbo Crab Cakes show another side of the restaurant. We are very serious about beef, but we are equally serious about the quality of everything else we put on the plate. The Japanese BBQ Glazed Salmon reflects the same philosophy we apply to our steaks: start with an excellent ingredient and build flavors around it that complement rather than disguise it. Wagyu may be the headline, but quality is the broader identity. MK: Why did Atlantic Village and Hallandale Beach make sense for the concept, and what is the ideal evening for a traveler? GL: Hallandale Beach was especially attractive to us because of how much the area is evolving. It sits between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, but more importantly, it is surrounded by growing communities where people are building their lives, raising families and increasingly looking for exceptional experiences closer to home. Atlantic Village is at the center of that evolution. For someone visiting The Wagyu House for the first time, the ideal evening would be to arrive early and spend some time exploring Atlantic Village before dinner. Then settle in at the bar for a cocktail before experiencing the menu and trying two very different Wagyu offerings side by side, perhaps an American Wagyu cut and Japanese A5. After dinner, guests can spend time on the patio, explore the Meat N’ Bone boutique to discover something to take home or ship later, or continue exploring Atlantic Village. MK: What final point best captures what you want guests to understand about The Wagyu House? GL: I think the biggest thing I would emphasize is that The Wagyu House is not a steakhouse that discovered Wagyu. It was created by a company that has spent years sourcing, butchering, selling and educating consumers about some of the world’s best proteins. That foundation gives us an opportunity to make premium dining more transparent and more educational. We want people to understand what they are eating, why it is special and, most importantly, what they personally enjoy. Luxury does not have to mean intimidating. It can also mean having access to an extraordinary product, understanding its story and having people around you who are excited to share that knowledge. That last point gives The Wagyu House its strongest identity. The restaurant can certainly deliver the indulgence expected from Japanese A5, but the more memorable proposition is comparison. A diner who walks in knowing only the word “Wagyu” can leave with a preference for a country, grade, cut, marbling level or style of eating. The integrated butcher boutique then makes that discovery useful beyond dinner. Atlantic Village adds another layer for visitors who tend to divide South Florida dining between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Hallandale Beach sits between the two, close to Gulfstream Park and Shell Bay, while Atlantic Village brings dining, wellness, retail and family-oriented concepts into one open-air setting. That makes The Wagyu House easy to build into an evening rather than treat as a stand-alone reservation. The result is a steakhouse experience built from product knowledge outward. You can order lavishly here, but price is not the organizing principle. Preference is. For anyone curious about what separates American Wagyu from Japanese A5, or why one richly marbled cut may suit your palate better than another, that shift makes dinner considerably more interesting.
