Summer Camp Registration Is Here: A Message From The Mayor Of Sunny Isles Beach

By Larisa Svechin, Mayor SIB - www.sibfl.net

May 17, 2024

As we quickly approach the summer season and the school year comes to a close, our Cultural and Community Services Department is gearing up for Summer Camp. Registration is now open for children ages 5 to 15 to join in the adventure, with activities ranging from field trips to games, and much more. Camp kicks off June 10th and promises weeks of unforgettable experiences.

Registration for summer camp is available online at: http://activities.sibfl.net. You can also register in person at Pelican Community Park, Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (except between 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.) and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You can find a full list of camps and general information by visiting: http://sibfl.net/summercamp.

In addition, there will be some changes to our Adult & Senior programs this summer. Residents ages 55 and older can take part in the Senior Summer Camp themed A Trip Around the World. Dive into a global adventure with friends and neighbors with language lessons, cultural culinary classes, and enriching field trips each Friday. The camp also starts June 10 and ends with a two-day Margaritaville Cruise to Grand Bahama Island on July 30th and returning August 1st.

Registration is now open to Residents. If you would like to invite a friend who does not live in Sunny Isles Beach, Registration for Non-Residents opens May 15th. As we prepare for summer, let’s also remember our conservation efforts, particularly during Sea Turtle Season, which runs until October 31st. Sea Turtles are protected under Federal, State, and Local Laws and are crucial to our ocean’s ecosystem.

I encourage residents to contribute to the safe and undisturbed nesting of Sea Turtles by steering clear of marked Sea Turtle nests and respecting their natural behavior. A nest will be marked off with stakes, neon tape, and a nest sign. It is against the law to disturb a Sea Turtle, its nest, eggs, or hatchlings. If you encounter anyone vandalizing a nest, please call our police at: (305) 947-4440 or the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at: (888) 404-3922. I also want to emphasize to keep bright lights from shining on the beach, as this can confuse turtles and lead them away from the ocean. For more information on sea turtle conservation efforts, please visit: http://sibfl.net/seaturtles.

If you have any questions contact Mayor Larisa Svechin at: lsvechin@sibfl.net. Or: (305) 792-1753.

Residency Requirements - In order to ensure that priority is given to verified residents for space and discounted pricing, the City implements strict guidelines for proof of residency. Residents must have a Valid City-Issued SIB Resident ID Card in order to register during the priority period and to receive the discounted rates.
The registration fee for camp is a one-time, non-refundable fee ($35 for Residents, $55 for Non-Residents). Only one Registration Fee may be applied for the summer, regardless of how many different camps you register for. This fee includes: two t-shirts, participant insurance, and administrative processing fees. The Registration Form, the Non-Refundable Registration Fee, a copy of the Child's Birth Certificate and a 50%, Half Deposit of Camp Fees are required for Camp Enrollment.
The balance of Camp Fees is due by June 1st. There are no grace periods on payments. If a payment is not received by the due date, your reservation will be forfeited, and your deposit will not be refunded. Financial assistance is not available for our programs.

Full Payment Discount - If you register your child for camp before June 1st and choose to pay the full amount due at the time of registration, you will receive a discount off your total camp fees (10% discount for residents, 5% discount for non-residents).

Refund & Transfer Policy Refunds or transfers of Camp Fees can be made by submitting a Refund/Transfer Request form with at least 14 days notice to the Cultural & Community Services office. A Cancellation/Transfer Fee of $20 per transaction will be deducted for any and all Summer Camp Cancellations and/or Transfers. Please understand that there is extensive administrative work involved in processing changes in your child’s enrollment, and allocating a replacement. The form is available at Pelican Community Park or online at: http://sibfl.net/CCS-Refund-Policy (As per “Absences” policy on page 4, we cannot issue partial refunds or credits for missed days of camp).

Wait List - Once any Camp becomes full, a wait list will be started for that week. Anyone interested in having their name placed on the waitlist must fill out a waitlist form (this is a short form with basic information about the potential participant as well as the parent or guardian).
To add your child to the general camps wait list, visit: http://sibfl.net/SummerCamp and fill out the online form. For specialty and sports camps, visit: http://activities.sibfl.net to add your child to the waitlist.
