Hallandale Beach Is Happening

Over The Past Two Weeks Hallandale Beach Has Been In The News For Some Exciting Announcements. For The Past Few Years, We Have Been Strategically Working To Position Our City As The Place To Move To, Invest In And Also To Come And Have Some Fun. We Also Still Recognize The Importance Of Our Multiculturalism When It Comes To The Vibrance Of Our City.

Last month, Gulfstream hosted the Pegasus Cup which is the world’s wealthiest race with the winning purse of $3 Million dollars. This race not only brings horses from around the globe but many Thoroughbred owners’ trainers. It also brings with it stars and celebrities.

We hosted Mayor Davidi and Deputy Mayor Nahshonov of Sderot as part of our city partnership. In uniting with Sderot, we have made an impact far beyond our borders. We look forward to future cultural exchanges.

We welcomed the new Imam Serjeel Amed of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community here in Hallandale Beach. This Muslim group has always supported the separation of religion and state. Their motto is Love for All Hatred for None. They believe in peace and have fully rejected all forms of terrorism. As our Muslim neighbors celebrate Ramadan, I wish them an easy fast.

As we grow as a diverse welcoming City, we are seeing redevelopment taking root. Our plans to increase our available housing stock have created synergy and many developers are investing in our City. We broke ground this year on Seven Park. The property in front of Big Easy was sold and plans are underway to create a new mixed use development. The Big Easy is also looking to finally redevelop the casino and State-Of-The-Art entertainment center.

Shell Bay, which is home to the exclusive golf course and Tennis Racquet Club, just topped off their 100-unit condominium. They are also moving forward with their other plans for additional hotel condominium units and their marina homes. Oasis is also getting close to topping off their eastern tower.

While housing and entertainment are always important, commercial properties are also part of the plan. While we have seen some new Class A Office developments including Optima, Atlantic Village I, II and III. Commercial offices are vital to retain and attract new businesses, young professionals, and families.

Last week, after almost three years of negotiations with PPG 1800 LLC they applied for a new office building at the old post office. Originally Chick-fil-A wanted to buy and build there but withdrew interest. While Chick-fil-A is a great franchise it is actually the busiest with an average of 100 cars per hour. While residents were relieved, I am sure they realized that some type of development would occur there.

I did not mention this during the hearing as I did not want to muddy the water, but the owners could have built under live local residential mixed use of over 90 units since it is 1.3 acres. Originally, they asked for a much larger building. To address the concern raised by the community they reduced the building to 22 stories. They worked with FDOT and actually received approval for a designated right turn.

Hallandale Beach also has grown to be a true food city. In addition to our many classics this summer we welcome Meat n Bone, Murano by Ferrao and Verda along with many others at District 8. This Thursday, we will welcome London’s famous Signor Sassi. This will be their first U.S. location. Another new restaurant that is opening to the public on the Hemispheres Bay side, Patrizia’s Restaurant Italiano. Their first was in NYC and they opened in Fort Lauderdale three years ago.

So, yes! Hallandale Beach is Happening and there’s more to come!
