New Siena Poll Reveals Major Shift Among NYC Jewish Democrats Amid Backlash Over DSA Endorsements

A Dramatic Political Shift Is Underway Among Jewish Voters In New York. New Findings From A Recent Siena Poll Reveal Deep Dissatisfaction With The Democratic Socialists Of America (DSA) And Growing Concern Over The Direction Of The State.

Bonsell: "For too long, many Democratic politicians have assumed that Jewish voters will continue to support them regardless of how far the party moves to the left. This coming November they are in for a rude awakening."

The survey reveals that 75% of Jewish New Yorkers hold an unfavorable view of the DSA. Additionally, 51% of Jewish respondents state that New York is currently heading in the wrong direction.

The most striking shift appears in congressional voting intentions. If the election for U.S. House Representatives were held today, 41% of Jewish New Yorkers say they would vote for the Republican candidate. Another 7% remain undecided. This marks a notable departure from traditional voting patterns, considering only about 15% of New York Jews are registered Republicans.

This shifting political landscape is putting local races in the spotlight, including the contest for Manhattan's 28th State Senate District. Republican Candidate Alina Bonsell is challenging incumbent Democratic State Senator Liz Krueger in the upcoming November 3rd Election. Senator Krueger recently drew scrutiny after endorsing Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a prominent member of the DSA.

Bonsell notes that the poll should prompt Jewish Democrats and voters across New York to closely examine the current trajectory of the Democratic Party.

"This poll should be a wake-up call for Jewish Democrats across New York," said Bonsell. "The message from Jewish voters is becoming increasingly clear: they are concerned about the growing influence of the Democratic Socialists of America and the direction in which this movement is taking our city and our state."

Bonsell emphasizes that parties can no longer take these voters for granted. "For too long, many Democratic politicians have assumed that voters will continue to support them regardless of how far the party moves to the left," Bonsell added. "This poll shows that assumption is dangerous. Voters are paying attention, and this coming November they are in for a rude awakening."

State Senate District 28 encompasses a large portion of Manhattan's East Side, including neighborhoods with significant Jewish populations.
