As Families Prepare For Their Thanksgiving Feast, Fire Safety Isn’t Always Top Of Mind. Still, The National Fire Protection Association Reports That Thanksgiving Remains The Number One Day For Home Cooking Fires.
With busy kitchens, guests coming and going, and kids helping with holiday prep, it’s important to stay alert. The City of Hollywood Department of Fire Rescue and Beach Safety encourages everyone to keep these NFPA safety tips in mind to help protect loved ones throughout the holiday.
• Stay in the kitchen when cooking on the stovetop so you can watch what you’re preparing.
• If you’re roasting a turkey, remain at home and check it often.
• Keep children at least three feet away from hot stoves.
• Use caution around hot foods and liquids. Steam and splashes from vegetables, gravy or coffee can cause severe burns.
• Keep floors clear of toys, bags and anything that could cause someone to trip.
• Store knives, appliance cords, matches and lighters out of children’s reach.
• Never leave candles burning unattended.
• Make sure smoke alarms are working and take a moment to test them.

Support Local: Shop Small This Holiday Season
Show some hometown spirit this holiday season by supporting your favorite Hollywood businesses in store and online. Small Business Saturday falls on Friday, November 29th this year, but your support makes a difference throughout the entire season.
Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses and communities across the country and is part of the larger Shop Small Movement. Founded by American Express in 2010, this day is celebrated each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving in the U.S. Since its launch in 2010, U.S. consumers have reportedly spent an estimated $223 Billion at small businesses on Small Business Saturday.
Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy. This holiday season, choose to Shop Small, Shop Local and make a meaningful impact close to home.
