BCT TransitFORWARD 2040 Vision Plan: Local Leaders And Residents Gather To Discuss Future Transit South Florida Sun Times May 7, 2026 Broward County Transit, In Collaboration With District 9 Commissioner Hazelle P. Rogers, Hosted A Well-Attended Public Meeting On Wednesday, April 29th, 2026, At The Lauderhill Central Park Library To Present The TransitFORWARD 2040 Vision Plan. The Event Brought Together Local Leaders, Including The City Of Lauderhill Commissioner Ray Martin, City Of Margate Commissioner Joanne Simone, And City Of Oakland Park Commissioner Fitz Budhoo. The Auditorium Was Filled With 35 District Residents Eager To Learn About The County's Vision For Future Transit Improvements. TransitFORWARD is Broward County's long-term multi-phase strategy to strengthen and enhance the transit system. Key recommendations include launching 20 new micro transit zones, expanding service hours, eliminating transit deserts, increasing service frequency, and upgrading rider amenities. With an estimated $1.4 Billion investment, the plan is projected to increase ridership by +68% by 2040. "The TransitFORWARD 2040 Vision Plan reimagines the way that service is currently delivered in Broward County," said Coree Cuff Lonergan, General Manager/CEO of Broward County Transit. "Every conversation with our community helps us shape a transit system that is more connected, more reliable, and more responsive to the needs of the future." Residents actively engaged throughout the session, raising questions that reflected both curiosity and urgency around the future of transit in Broward County. Topics included "how soon improvements could be implemented," "how service frequency could be increased to reduce wait times," and "what new connections may be available to key destinations such as the airport, seaport, and coastal areas." Attendees also asked about "the role of light rail and premium transit corridors" and "when the tap to pay system will be implemented." The meeting is a part of a broader series of community engagement efforts supporting the vision plan. Additional meetings are scheduled, offering residents the opportunity to learn more, share feedback, and engage directly with Broward County representatives during Q&A sessions. - HHS’ Civil Rights Office Finds - Harvard University In Violation Of Federal Civil Rights Law | sun-times
HHS’ Civil Rights Office Finds - Harvard University In Violation Of Federal Civil Rights Law Jewish Connection News Jul 9, 2025 This Month, The U.S. Department Of Health And Human Services (HHS) Office For Civil Rights (OCR) Announced That Harvard University (Harvard) Violated Title VI Of The Civil Rights Act Of 1964 (Title VI) By Acting With Deliberate Indifference Towards Harassment Of Jewish And Israeli Students By Other Students And Faculty From October 7th, 2023, Through The Present. OCR Enforces Title VI, Which Prohibits A Recipient Of Federal Financial Assistance From Discriminating In Its Programs And Activities On The Basis Of Race, Color, Or National Origin, Which Includes Discrimination Against Individuals That Is Based On Their Actual Or Perceived Israeli Or Jewish Identity Or Ancestry. From Fiscal Years 2023 To 2025, Harvard And Its Subrecipients Have Received Over $794 Million In Federal Financial Assistance From HHS. OCR’s Notice of Violation finds that Harvard has been – and is – deliberately indifferent to the severe, pervasive, and objectively offensive harassment of Jewish and Israeli students by its own students and faculty. The findings are based on information and documents obtained during the investigation: Harvard’s policies and procedures; conclusions from Harvard’s own internal Task Force on Combating Antisemitism and Anti-Israeli Bias; findings from a U.S. Congressional task force that investigated antisemitism on college campuses; and reliable media reports that contemporaneously depicted antisemitic episodes of vandalism, harassment, and physical violence over a 19-month period at Harvard. “Harvard’s public pledges to improve its disciplinary framework for harassment and misconduct are inadequate to meaningfully address these serious findings,” said Paula M. Stannard, Director of the Office for Civil Rights at HHS. “HHS stands ready to re-engage in productive discussions with Harvard to reach resolution on the corrective action that Harvard can take to remedy the violations and come into compliance with its Title VI obligations.” OCR’s findings document that a hostile environment existed, and continues to exist, at Harvard. This hostile environment includes harassing speech, threats, and intimidation targeting Jewish and Israeli students, including calls for genocide and murder. OCR’s findings also extensively detail acts of physical intimidation and violence between students. This hostile environment denied, and continues to deny, students’ fundamental educational opportunities. Such educational opportunities denied include safe class attendance, access to campus facilities such as libraries, dining halls, dorms, and other common areas, participation in extracurricular activities, and overall physical and emotional well-being on campus. The Notice of Violation explains the ways in which Harvard – which has substantial control over both the students who committed harassment and the property where harassment occurred – acted with deliberate indifference with regard to the hostile environment. For example, Harvard failed: To establish clear and consistent policies and practices to report and remediate discrimination; To discipline violators of its policies with any uniformity, resulting in a patchwork application of sanctions that Harvard inconsistently reduced or reversed, resulting in a disciplinary system that had little to no deterrent effect; and To enforce its own time, place and manner restrictions in any consistent or meaningful way, resulting in recurring and unsanctioned episodes that deprived Jewish and Israeli students their full access to parts of campus where they studied and socialized. The Notice of Violation may be found at: https://www.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/harvard-title-vi-notice-violation.pdf . This investigation is the second OCR investigation completed in this Administration under Title VI that examines the civil rights liability of a Federal funding recipient for race and national origin discrimination under a deliberate indifference theory. The scope of the findings released today do not address OCR’s ongoing investigation under Title VI into suspected race-based discrimination permeating the operations of the Harvard Law Review journal. Today’s announcement is part of a broader effort by the Administration’s multi-agency Joint Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism, which is part of the Administration’s commitment to address “unlawful anti-Semitic harassment and violence,” as expressed in President Trump’s Executive Orders, Combating Anti-Semitism on December 11th, 2019 and Additional Measures to Combat Anti-Semitism on January 29th, 2025. If you believe that you or someone else has been discriminated against because of race, color, national origin, disability, age, sex, or religion in programs or activities that HHS directly operates or for which HHS provides Federal financial assistance, you may file a complaint with the HHS Office for Civil Rights at: https://www.hhs.gov/civil-rights/filing-a-complaint/index.html . Hallandale Beach Community Redevelopment Agency: Welcomes New Restaurants and Additions to SOBEWFF® Hallandale Beach Event Series January 26, 2024 Share The City of Hallandale Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (HBCRA) has announced it will expand the much-anticipated Food & Groove event, part of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF®) Hallandale Beach event series, to include local favorites from both the City of Hallandale Beach and the surrounding area. Any restaurant owner considering expanding, moving, or opening a restaurant in Hallandale Beach is invited to showcase their cuisine at Food & Groove, a wine, food, and art experience, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Pegasus Park at Gulfstream Village (901 South Federal Highway). “As a way of continuing to bolster the local restaurant industry and encourage even more restaurants to open up a location within the City of Hallandale Beach, for the first time ever, the HBCRA is opening up the Food and Groove festival to a few restaurants located outside of the City,” said Dr. Jeremy Earle, City Manager/CRA Executive Director of the City of Hallandale Beach. Hallandale beach is uniquely positioned to welcome cultural influences from both Broward and Miami-Dade counties to add to the City’s vibrant and eclectic culinary and arts scene. “In fact, we’re hoping to bring at least ten new restaurants to our Hallandale Beach community in 2024, to further enhance our international offerings.” As an incentive, all participating restaurants outside of the City boundaries will be eligible for a $1,000 reimbursement. A Sensory-Inclusive Season Begins: Performances, Events and Classes For the Neurodiverse Community Expand November 8, 2022 Share If Shakespeare was correct that “all the world’s a stage,” the Broward Center for the Performing Arts wants everyone to feel welcome in the theater. The Broward Center 2022/2023 Sensory-Inclusive Season, which launches in November will feature sensory-inclusive shows for children and adults on the autism spectrum as well as for individuals with other sensitivity issues or developmental disabilities. The season also offers engaging classes for neurodiverse children and adults. “We continue to find ways to remove barriers to the arts and offer arts experiences to everyone in our community,” said Broward Center President and CEO Kelley Shanley. “At the core of our mission is a deep desire to find new ways to use the arts to serve our community in meaningful ways.” To create a welcoming and supportive environment, sensory-inclusive performances have made slight adjustments to the productions including reduced sound levels, no flashing or strobe lights and minimal special effects. In addition, an area adjacent to the theater has been designated as a Quiet Room with specially trained volunteers to provide audience support. Audiences coming to the Amaturo Theater and Aventura Center will also enjoy complimentary pre-show arts and crafts provided by Young at Art Museum at most performances, and a post-show character meet & greet. In addition, helpful resources such as a video about what to expect when attending a live performance and a character guide for the show are available on the event page at the BrowardCenter.org. - Dial Up Flavor with Summer Favorites
Dial Up Flavor with Summer Favorites By Family Features May 4, 2023 Share Turn up the heat this summer and spice your way to delicious warm-weather recipes by using subtle ingredients that bring out bold flavors in your favorite foods. Adding a taste-enhancing option to your repertoire - TajÌn Fruity Chamoy Sauce - can make your summer get-togethers the talk of the neighborhood. Cool off while enjoying mildly spicy dishes. Made with 100% natural chiles, lime juice, sea salt and a hint of apricot, TajÌn Fruity Chamoy Sauce offers a unique sweet-and-spicy flavor without too much heat. Perfect for drizzling over fresh fruits and veggies like mango, pineapple, watermelon and more, it's also commonly used to bring fruity, subtle spice to a wide variety of recipes including beverages and snacks, like smoothies, mangonadas, ice pops and cold drinks. For example, in this Savory Mango Chamoy Daiquiri, the apricots create a fruity, tangy flavor that's a nice, refreshing twist on a traditional drink. Bringing a touch of heat to summer cookouts can be a breeze with mild hot sauces added to dishes like these Spiced Pork Ribs, which can be created start-to-finish in the oven or taken outside to sear on the grill. Just a handful of ingredients are required to season the ribs to spicy perfection before wrapping them in foil and letting your oven do the work. The key ingredient for the right touch of subtle heat without being overwhelming is TajÌn Mild Hot Sauce, a unique, flavorful addition to your cabinet that pairs well with savory snacks like tortilla chips, chicken wings, pizza and even micheladas. The lime is what makes it different from other hot sauces. Made with 100% natural mild chiles, lime juice and sea salt without added sugars or coloring, it can be enjoyed by the whole family as a versatile way to enhance favorite foods with a mild but wild flavor. Both recipes can be easily enhanced with a simple concept: just pair TajÌn Cl·sico seasoning with either or both of the sauces to create unique flavor combinations, a tasty "mix it" tactic to add to your warm-weather menu and make it uniquely yours.
