Create an Emergency Plan

Include Everyone: Make sure all household members are accounted for, including those with special medical needs and pets.

Communication Plan: Establish an emergency meeting place and designate an out-of-town contact to help everyone stay connected.

Special Transportation Needs: Plan ahead for anyone requiring special transportation assistance.

Water and Food: Have at least one gallon of water per person per day for 7 days and stock up on non-perishable foods such as canned meats, fruits, vegetables and nuts. Don’t forget a manual can opener and disposable plates and utensils.

Cooking Essentials: Keep matches and cooking gel on hand.

Medications: Ensure a 30-day supply of prescription medicines and have over-the-counter pain relievers, antacids, anti-diarrhea medicines and children’s medication are available.

First Aid Kit Includes: Sterile bandages, a cleansing agent, safety pins, gauze pads, scissors, a sewing needle, moist towelettes and adhesive tape.

Important Documents

Keep essential documents safe in a waterproof container, such as details for property insurers, emergency agencies and family members. Also, don’t forget to include pet health information.
