- Efficient LED Bulbs: Boost Your Home Design With Lighting
Efficient LED Bulbs: Boost Your Home Design With Lighting (BPT) January 20, 2022 Share If you dream about transforming your home on a budget, chances are you've considered new paint, area rugs or window treatments. While these updates can refresh rooms without breaking the bank, there's a crucial and often overlooked design element that can truly transform a room - lighting. The good news is, improving lighting doesn't necessarily require all new fixtures. Simply swapping from standard to LED lightbulbs can upgrade the ambience of your home with stylish features and energy-saving benefits that can have a dramatic impact on your energy bill - and the look and feel of your overall space. Lighting can alter the appearance of paint, furnishings and decor, becoming even more important as seasons change. This year, resolve to save more energy and brighten up your home with an elevated, energy-efficient home basic: LED lightbulbs. Here are a few bright ideas to revamp rooms using the power of the humble lightbulb: 1. Go LED for cost savings Select LED bulbs reduce household energy costs over the course of their lifetime. An EcoSmart lightbulb saves $0.55-$2.65 on average per bulb over its 25,000-hour lifetime. New LED lightbulbs offer the latest innovation in lighting technology and are available in a wide assortment of wattage outputs, colors, base options and shapes. 2. Consider function LEDs are directional light sources, enabling them to cast light and use energy more efficiently. When choosing your ideal lightbulb style, consider the room's purpose. A kitchen needs to be bright to aid food preparation, but your bedroom should be a restful, cozy oasis. For a living room, you may want to switch from a game-and-puzzle center with focused lighting to a darkened home theater for movie night. • Kitchens need light to perform cooking tasks, as well as for entertaining. EcoSmart LED recessed and track lighting (BR) offer strong overhead illumination in enclosed fixtures. • Bathrooms need effective lighting, plus decorative style. Globe-shaped LED lightbulbs emit light in every direction, making them ideal for mirror and pendant lights. • Dining areas are a great place to show off decorative fixtures with candle bulbs. New, improved decorative bulbs feature a thinner, longer filament design - with options like fine bendy or horizontal - that combine authentic styles and 360-degree light output with low glare for high-quality lighting that doesn't sacrifice style. • Bedrooms or living areas where ambience is paramount offer endless creative possibilities. Vintage is a look that never truly goes out of style and EcoSmart "Edison" bulbs give a more "true vintage look," along with the benefits of LED technology. EcoSmart offers a dimmable option for these bulbs too, so you can choose exactly how much light you want. • Outdoor living spaces benefit from security lighting. Turn any fixture into a state-of-the-art security fixture with features like motion sensors, high output and dusk-to-dawn. Look for lightbulbs compatible with flood lights, security and landscape lighting (PAR). 3. Choose "color temperature" to change the mood Today's LED bulbs offer a wide variety of color temperatures, empowering you to make the room feel warmer and cozier, or cooler and crisper. Contrary to what you may think, the hotter the light source (measured in Kelvins), the cooler the "color temperature," so lights with temperatures at 5,000 or more Kelvins look brighter, crisper and more bluish. However, light temperatures around 2,500-3,000 Kelvins emit an amber, yellowish or orange tinge which makes rooms feel warmer and cozier. "Like choosing paint in cool or warm colors, picking the right color temperature for lighting can really transform a space," said Sarah Fishburne, Director of Trend and Design for The Home Depot. "You can emphasize warm tones like yellows, reds and oranges using 'warm' colored lighting, or you can make a room feel lighter, brighter and airier by choosing 'cool' temperature lighting." Experiment with different bulbs and settings to see what works best with your room. For the ultimate color selection, try an EcoSmart lightbulb with 5 CCT (Correlated Color Temperature) that lets you customize the color of light using an integrated switch. Bulbs equipped with DuoBright technology empower you to adjust the color temperature and brightness with your existing dimmer switch to meet your preferences at any time - emitting 5,000 Kelvins (Daylight) at full brightness and slowly transitioning to 2,000 Kelvins (Sunset Glow) when dimmed. Change your lightbulbs, change the world The other good news about swapping out lightbulbs? You're helping the environment, too. On average, an enhanced EcoSmart LED bulb uses 85% less energy than a traditional incandescent lightbulb. Learn more about EcoSmart lightbulbs available exclusively in-store at The Home Depot or online at https://www.homedepot.com < Previous News Next News >

TP: Until 2024, the resort used to be the site to four small motels. The namesake of the Pelican Grand Beach Resort came from one of the motels that was named Pelican Beach Motel. The frontage road in front of the resort actually used to be A1A. Due to the construction of the resort, and development in the area, A1A had to be moved westward to where it is today. The true charm of Pelican Grand Beach Resort is apparently rooted in the exceptional team members who bring warmth, dedication and a personal touch to every guest experience. “From the front desk to housekeeping, from the kitchen to the concierge, each staff member embodies a commitment to hospitality that transforms a stay into a cherished memory,” Pierri says. “Their genuine care, attention to detail, and passion for service ensure that every guest feels welcomed and valued, making the Pelican Grand Beach Resort not just a beautiful place to stay, but a truly extraordinary destination.” Having recently visited the property on an escape of my own, I can attest that it is the people behind the scenes who elevate the resort beyond its stunning location and luxurious amenities, creating a heartfelt and unforgettable atmosphere that makes Pelican Grand Beach Resort a true standout in the Sunshine State. - Get Ready for King Tides Hollywood
Get Ready for King Tides Hollywood October 20, 2022 Share Unusually High Tides, also known as King Tides, are expected periodically through early December. Flooding in low-lying areas is more likely during this time of the year due to the close proximity of the moon which creates King Tides. These Seasonal High Tides, combined with Rising Sea Levels and Inclement Weather Conditions, exacerbate flooding risks. Rainfall and Wind Strength and direction also have a significant impact on the height of the Tides causing them to come in higher or lower than predicted. With seven miles of shoreline, 7.9 miles of canals and a Flat Topography, Hollywood is vulnerable to the effects of Sea Level Rise and Tidal Flooding. Most of the King Tide impacts are felt along the coast and in very low-lying areas near other water bodies. Residents who want to know which areas are impacted by the King Tides are encouraged to use the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Sea Level Rise Viewer: https://coast.noaa.gov/slr/ On this map, you can Zoom into Broward & Miami-Dade County or your neighborhood. When you click on the “Flood Frequency Tab” you will see areas in red that are vulnerable to King Tide Flooding. King Tides can be observed 1.5 – 2 hours before and after peak times. Based on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Tide Predictions, above Average High Tides are expected: • October 24th - October 30th, 2022 • November 6th - November 9th, 2022 • November 23rd - November 27th, 2022 Above Average High Tides are also expected again, on both the New Moon and the Full Moon, additional dates to watch for Tidal Impacts include: December 23rd - December 24th, 2022 High Seasonal Tides can cause Low-Lying Coastal Areas to Flood. Motorists are urged to use caution and seek Alternate Routes to avoid traveling on Flooded Streets. Coastal Roads, Parking Lots and Docks in vulnerable areas could Flood during the times of High Tide. Seasonal Tides could raise the water level by more than 2 and a half feet during High Tide. The City is working on both Short-Term and Long-Term Solutions to minimize the impacts of Tidal Flooding and has completed the installation of Flap Gates in The Stormwater System to help prevent Tidal Water from flowing back through The Stormwater Drains. Additionally, Auxiliary Pumps are stationed in High Risk Areas to help clear Flooded Streets as quickly as possible. To report Street-Level Flooding caused by seasonal King Tides, please call: (954) 764-4357. < Previous News Next News >
- In Memory of Michael Stern: A Tireless Fighter For Good And Dedicated Much of His Life To Helping Others
In Memory of Michael Stern: A Tireless Fighter For Good And Dedicated Much of His Life To Helping Others August 22, 2024 Share Michael Stern, an Aventura Commissioner passed away peacefully on July 25th at his family-filled Aventura home. He was 57. He was diagnosed with an advanced stage of Colorectal Cancer at 52 after delaying his Colonscopy for several years. Commissioner Stern was the second-longest serving elected official in Aventura's history. His commitment to serving others was evident as an elected leader and in his everyday life. Since being diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer in 2019, Michael dedicated himself to education and advocacy, saving lives. Aside from being a Commissioner, Michael Stern was also one of the creators of Aventura Magazine and spent much of his time after his diagnosis in 2019 urging others to get a Colonoscopy. He became an Ambassador in the fight against Colorectal Cancer and also advocated for funding Cancer Research in Washington. As part of the fight against Colorectal Cancer in 2023 and 2024, Aventura’s Colorectal Cancer Public Service Announcements won Gold Viddy Awards from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals due in large part to Stern’s contributions. Stern believed in an era where effective communication plays a vital role in raising awareness and driving social change, the Aventura Public Communicators Group with his contribution achieved a remarkable feat. The outstanding Short Film, "Michael Stern: Colorectal Cancer Awareness," was honored with the prestigious Gold Viddy Award from The Association Of Marketing And Communications Professionals. This recognition was a testament to the group's commitment to delivering impactful messages and their dedication to Public Health Initiatives. He made sure people knew his story to raise awareness about the disease. "I found out about my Cancer Diagnosis after waking up from my Colonoscopy in October 2019. At that time, it was unknown what stage I was at, just that it was most likely a Cancerous Polyp. It took about a week to find out it progressed to Stage IV." "I turned to Google, which was a very big mistake. After reading most of the results that I had about a 14% chance of living past five years, my life stood still for that moment. All I could think of is, "Will I see my kids grow up?" and "What do I say to them?" "How can I leave my family at this time? I have so much more to do. It took me a few weeks to come to grips with things. I started to think in a different direction." "I was very fortunate to have my wife (aka "my rock") stand by my side and listen to the waterfall of information thrown at me, as I was unable to comprehend anything. She was able to help me process things. I found the best medical team and focused on anything I can do to beat this. I surrounded myself with an incredible support system, family, and friends, who pushed me every day to keep going and stay strong. After multiple surgeries, Chemo Treatments, Temporary Ileostomy, and then a permanent one, CT Scans, MRIs, Blood Draws, and Port Flushes, I stand here today NED [No Evidence of Disease] and stronger than ever." "Having the right mindset in a Cancer Journey is half the battle." "Advice: The fear for me was getting that Colonoscopy. It was the total opposite of what I thought it was. It was so easy. I wish I knew this sooner, as I would have gotten my Colonoscopy a few years earlier. The Polyp could have been found early and prevented me from having Cancer. My advice is simple. GET A COLONOSCOPY! It could save your life." "Whatever part of the Cancer Journey you are on, take this life-changing event as an opportunity to do whatever you really want to do. Focusing on being positive. Try to get rid of Stress. Remove the fear. Enjoy and appreciate all the good things." Michael Stern Stage IV Colon Cancer Patients & Survivors Raising Awareness For Colorectal Cancer By sharing his story via Online and the Short Film he not only educated viewers about the importance of Early Detection and Prevention but also served as a source of inspiration and hope for those facing similar challenges. Colorectal Cancer is one of the leading causes of Cancer-Related Deaths globally. Despite its prevalence, the disease often goes undetected until it reaches advanced stages. Colorectal Cancer Screening can save your life. While over 90% of Colon and Rectal Cancers are found in people over age 50, anyone at any age can get Colorectal Cancer. All adults should talk to their doctor about when to start Screening for Polyps and Cancer. The general population should begin screening at age 45. Those with a Family History of Colorectal Cancer or Precancerous Colorectal Polyps may need to begin Screening before age 45, and anyone experiencing signs and symptoms of Colorectal Cancer (at any age) should have their symptoms evaluated. Screening should follow regular intervals through age 75 (the interval depends on which Screening method is used), and people over 75 should talk to their doctor about whether Screening is necessary. The Film serves as a reminder that Prevention and Early Intervention can significantly improve outcomes for individuals battling Colorectal Cancer. So take time to make that appointment, it could make a huge difference in your life. - Alleviating Autism At The Cellular Level - Doctor Reveals Natural Detoxifying Techniques For Autism Spectrum Disorder | sun-times
Alleviating Autism At The Cellular Level - Doctor Reveals Natural Detoxifying Techniques For Autism Spectrum Disorder South Florida Sun Times Apr 17, 2025 What Was Once An Unknown Health Condition Affecting Only .4 children Out Of 1,000 In 1985 Has Surged Over The Past Few Decades To Become A Prevalent Neurodevelopmental Issue In Both Young And Old Alike. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Affects An Individual’s Social Skills, Communication, Behavior, Ability To Relate To Others And The World Around Them. It Is Characterized By Differences In The Brain’s Development, Which Can Result In A Wide Range Of Symptoms From Slight To Severe. Most Medical Researchers Adhere To The Idea That Autism Cannot Be Cured, But One Doctor Of Natural Medicine Has Created A Proven Protocol That Not Only Prevents ASD But Can Alleviate It Once Diagnosed. Dr. Peter Amato, Founder Of Inner Harmony Wellness Centers, Discusses The Importance Of Cellular Detoxification In Inhibiting Autism. “Autism can absolutely be eased by holistic medicine and other natural modalities that detect all the underlying root causes of the condition in an individual,” said Peter Amato, Ph.D., D.N.M. “Our specialized testing framework serves as a “peeling back the layers of the onion” process which readily reveals the core issues. The irony is that Autism risk factors are not tested with traditional blood work, so quantum medicine can definitely change the dialogue among health care providers.” Dr. Amato notes that quantum medicine works by using quantum energy fields, body mechanics, psychology, philosophy and neurophysiology to stimulate healing and support the body’s natural defenses against chronic health conditions and diseases. A primary component of quantum medicine is cellular detoxification, which is crucial to combat the dangerous chemical and environmental byproducts of our modern world, like plastics, insecticides, mercury and electromagnetic radiation. “One of the most strongly emphasized contributors to the surge in Autism diagnoses is mercury toxicity through both the environment and immunizations, which affects proper fetal neurodevelopment by inhibiting endocrine receptors and causing immune dysregulation in the developing brain,” adds Dr. Amato. “That’s why it’s imperative for potential parents to clean up their physiology, both in mind and body, as well as their living environment to reduce the risk of Autism. Simply stated, fix the cell and people get well.” Dr. Amato highlights several natural Autism prevention and therapeutic techniques for the pre- and post-natal level offered at Inner Harmony Wellness Centers, which include: • Detoxifying individual cells by removing heavy metals like fluoride, aluminum and mercury, as well as poisons such as insecticides, glyphosate, wood preservatives, PBDEs; polybrominated diphenyl ethers and phthalates, chemicals used to make plastics from all organs and tissues through a specialized diagnostic quantum cellular resonant testing procedure. • Reducing electromagnetic radiation exposure from cell phones, wireless networks and microwave ovens, wherever possible by turning off electricity at night, installing remote circuit breaker switches in bedrooms and using grounding mats, whenever possible. • Regularly testing and removing parasites, mold, fungi and bacteria from the home. • Eliminating chronic infections, retroviruses and viruses promptly by bolstering the adrenal glands and immune system via targeted organic nutraceuticals to eliminate the toxic burden at the cellular level. • Reducing brain and gut inflammation through nutrition therapy and synergistic blends of supplements that are designed to target and balance organs, glands and bodily systems within the cell. • Engaging in brain entrainment techniques such as biofeedback, neuromodulation, biophoton therapy, ozone therapy, ionic cleanse detoxification, pulsed electromagnetic field; PEMF therapy, exercise, Rife machine therapy, as well as color and sound therapy. • Correcting nutritional imbalances with nutraceuticals, supplements, custom diets, mind-body medicine, energy medicine, biologically based, manipulative and body-based practices. • Having breastfeeding mothers ingest Chlorella daily to continuously clear toxins from the milk. • Pressure chamber therapy and hyperbaric medicine - innovative approaches that increase blood and oxygen supply to the brain to improve its function and enhance social skills. “I have seen firsthand how detoxification and supplementation can help an individual overcome the myriad of neurophysiological and behavioral symptoms associated with Autism,” concludes Dr. Amato. “We have the capability to reverse the increasing rate of Autism diagnoses right at our fingertips.” In 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that 1 in 36 children in the U.S. has been identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder and that the ASD therapeutics market will be valued at $3.42 Billion by 2030. The Gold Coast Jazz Society is a Not-For-Profit Organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Jazz music through a mainstage concert series, free community concerts, educational programs, a jazz scholarship program and musical services provided by the Gold Coast Jazz Society Band. The History of Gold Coast Jazz Society Frederick G. Ruffner, Jr. had a vision to bring more jazz to the “Gold Coast” area of South Florida. In 1992, Fred and a group of avid Jazz buffs made this vision a reality by forming a Non-Profit Organization called the Gold Coast Jazz Society in Fort Lauderdale. Following its formation, the GCJS developed a concert series, which was presented in the main dining room of the historic Riverside Hotel, located on the famous Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. As the concert series continued to grow and expand, a larger venue was required. The concert series was eventually moved to the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, located in the Arts & Science District of Fort Lauderdale. Today, the seven-concert Jazz series continues to be presented in the Amaturo Theater each year from November through May. Over the years the Society has grown and expanded to include the presentation of jazz education and community outreach activities, the Jeanette M. Russell Jazz Scholarship Program, and many special events throughout the year. For more information and tickets, visit: www.goldcoastjazz.org Tony DeSare Previous Next
