- The COVID-19 Craziness
The COVID-19 Craziness By Marilyn M. Singleton, MD, JD June 3, 2021 Share Proves That Einstein Was Right One of Albert Einstein’s many aphorisms, “three great forces rule the world: stupidity, fear and greed,” is particularly apt in the COVID-19 Era. Our government’s duty is to warn the public of a possible Pandemic and recommend precautions. However, the initial COVID-19 tactic, was to strike fear into our hearts and minds. The constant display of COVID-19 “cases” on the nightly news, suggested certain death awaited those who ventured out of their homes. During the Diamond Princess Cruiseship’s outbreak in early February of 2020, we had a real world demonstration of the behavior of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus. Trapped in a floating Petri dish, the crew performed their duties and passengers were quarantined in their rooms with a ventilation system without special high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters, only 17 percent of the 3,711 occupants became infected with SARS-CoV-2, only half of whom had symptoms. Because 80 percent of those infected, were in cabins that didn’t have a previous confirmed case, the likely mode of infection was transmission of aerosols (in contrast to large droplets that quickly fall to the ground) through the ventilation system and locking the people in, had proved to be counterproductive. We also learned from the Diamond Princess episode, that the median age of symptomatic folks were people 68 years old, 50 percent of whom had underlying medical conditions and the deaths were in those over 70 years of age. Despite this real world clinical experience, the CDC and Dr. Fauci advised state governments to quarantine every living human being in the country. The lessons of the Diamond Princess faded from the news while a never-ending campaign of fear, persisted. Only the well-informed, realized the news was presented through agenda-colored glasses. It’s not smart to keep people indoors, when by May 2020, we knew 66 percent of New York’s new cases were in folks who stayed home. The scientific consensus was leaning toward emerging evidence, that the SARS-CoV-2 Virus was spread by tiny aerosols, which could be reduced by good ventilation. After more than a year, the CDC finally acknowledged real world evidence “the science” and announced that “less than 10 percent” of transmission had occurred outdoors. Data shows the actual outdoor transmission is somewhere between 0.1 and 1 percent. While technically true, one wonders whether the CDC used purposefully misleading wording to cover its tracks after mask recommendations for children outdoors at summer camps and mandates for seafaring commercial fishermen. Fear fuels stupidity, by June 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) had announced that asymptomatic transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus is “very rare,” study after, study have shown that cloth masks, do not prevent transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus or other, similar viruses. When political pundits see unmasked people as a threat and a fully vaccinated physician, the COVID-19 experts, found it “psychologically hard” to dine unmasked with a vaccinated friend, masking has not become part of “following the science,” but, it became an obsession. Greed knows no bounds, hospitals are charging up to $1419 for a $50 test. Designer drugs are the new cash cow. Regeneron’s stock price was up more than 60 percent, in 2020. Who would have thought COVID-19 would be justification for a manufacturer to release TV ads for drugs that are not fully FDA approved? Regeneron’s ads instill fear, then present their drug as the solution. COVID-19 Diagnosis? Oh my! Isolate and call the doctor to get monoclonal antibodies (at $1,250 per dose). Wall Street predicts that in 2021, Pfizer and Moderna will generate $32 billion in COVID-19 Vaccine Revenue. Thanks to the Vaccines, Moderna’s stock, has soared 700 percent in 2020. Pfizer plans for Vaccines to be a long-term business plan, by roping children into the Vaccine corral. Was the drug and health product manufacturers’ $92 million to lobbyists in the last 3 months intended to ensure the federal government’s cooperation? Patients and physicians have a choice. Despite the Vaccine, über alles narrative, only 60 percent of Dr. Fauci’s staff have taken “the shot.” The NIH’s COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines are not mandates. Patients can opt for early treatment at a cost of $10 to $125 per entire course with effective repurposed generic drugs, supported by real-time worldwide evidence. Sadly, as Kaiser Health News noted, despite being a “godsend” to reduce death and hospitalizations, “drug companies have no incentive to spend millions to test new uses for cheap, off-patent drugs.” The people are not stupid, they are merely, ill-informed. Media outlets were increasing ratings at the expense of the truth, the drug companies were rolling in dough, researchers were letting politics guide their outcomes and social media, was censoring experts who disagreed with the wizards at WHO, NIH, CDC and medical journals, who have been funded by big Pharma. Could we have avoided lockdowns with repurposed drugs, improved air circulation and HEPA filters? Could we have saved millions of lives lost, not only to COVID-19 but from suicide, overdoses, violence and Cancer? About Dr. Singleton Dr. Singleton is a board-certified anesthesiologist. - The City of Hollywood Celebrates National Community Development Week
The City of Hollywood Celebrates National Community Development Week April 14, 2022 Share This week has been designated as National Community Development week by the National Community Development Association to celebrate the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, the HOME Investment Partnerships program (HOME), and the State Housing Initiatives Partnership program (SHIP). The programs provide annual grants on a formula basis to states, cities, and counties to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons. The COVID-19 Pandemic caused unpredictable hardships to Hollywood residents. Using funding provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), State of Florida Dept. of Economic Opportunities, and the Florida Housing Finance Corporation, the City was able to prevent evictions for 576 at-risk tenants and prevent foreclosures for 150 low-and moderate- income homeowners. In addition, the City used Community Development Block Grant CV funds and Coronavirus Relief funds for general emergency services and case management that provided direct utility payments, budgeting assistance, and other wrap-around services. Wrap-around services included access to the Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program, which relieved the cost burden for low-income residents for a period of up to two years. Many residents had limited access to food, therefore the City funded two food pantries. Additionally, the City, Feeding South Florida and the Florida Department of Transportation coordinated a drive-through food location utilizing City staff, and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers. Many business owners were financially impacted by the distance requirements. To assist and stabilize small business owners, in the City of Hollywood, the City provided 102 small business assistance grants to fund job retention/creation and stabilization. The COVID-19 Pandemic caused unprecedented psychological strain to Hollywood residents. To assist, the City funded the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to expand services of NAMI Broward mental health programs in Hollywood. NAMI Broward County offers free support groups, educational programs, and referral services to Hollywood residents living with mental illness, their families, caregivers, and friends. Every day people overcome the challenges of mental illness to do the things they enjoy, several of them have become program leaders for NAMI Broward. says Sandra Cumper, Executive Director of NAMI Broward. The Broward County Continuum of Care provides varied homeless assistance programs to suit individual needs and requirements. The City funded the TaskForce for Ending Homelessness to provide outreach services for homeless persons in the City of Hollywood daily. “The COVID-19 Health Emergency highlighted the importance of Community Development funding,” said Anthony Grisby, Community Development Division Manager. “These funding sources not only allow for the standard stabilizing activities for low- and moderate-income households but are also capable of responding to a fast-moving public health emergency that threatens the overall population.” The City continues other non-COVID services including housing rehabilitation, first-time homebuyer, workforce training, after-school tutoring, career development training for homeless youth, housing counseling for persons with disabilities, employment case management and job and vocational materials, professional counseling and supportive services to veterans and victims of domestic violence. - Who Defines Disinformation? We Can Tell Something About the Agenda From Recent History
Who Defines Disinformation? We Can Tell Something About the Agenda From Recent History By Jane M. Orient, M.D. May 19, 2022 Share Just after Elon Musk bought Twitter, promising more freedom, the Biden administration announces a new government agency to “protect” Americans and the world from harmful disinformation, especially about the COVID pandemic. It is called the Disinformation Governance Board, although some would call it the Minitrue, short for Ministry of Truth, the ministry of propaganda in George Orwell’s novel 1984. The abbreviation differs from KGB by only one letter. There is the First Amendment, of course, but there is precedent for disregarding it, especially in war. Newspapers were shut down and editors arrested for expressing anti-war views, at the time of the Civil War by Abraham Lincoln and World War I by Woodrow Wilson. President Wilson even suppressed information about the raging 1918 influenza pandemic so as not to interfere with the war effort. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld Wilson’s Espionage Act and its 20-year prison terms. Wilson even demanded that the Librarian of Congress report the names of those who ordered certain books! Today’s technology permits government to find out if you even looked at a book or article online. Today, “mainstream media” is mostly owned by a few conglomerates, who all seem to be on board with the current Narrative about this “war” on COVID. The First Amendment does not apply to private organizations. The internet and social media owned by Big Tech could threaten those who want to suppress certain truths. We can tell something about the Agenda from the accounts that Twitter has banned: views of election fraud that favors Democrats; evidence of corrupt dealings with foreign governments by certain highly placed officials, say from Hunter Biden’s laptop; and information contradicting the official narrative on COVID-19. With COVID, disinformation is defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and National Institutes of Health (NIH). Skepticism about masks and lockdowns, information about early treatment with cheap, repurposed drugs, or anything that might lead to “vaccine hesitancy” are anathema. Who writes the message? According to Dr. Scott Atlas, who was briefly a member of President Trump’s COVID Task Force, in his book A Plague upon Our House, the nationwide message was dictated by Anthony Fauci, Deborah Birx, and Robert Redfield, even over the President’s objection. Was it “the Science”? Dr. Atlas immersed himself in the deluge of scientific articles and brought copies to meetings. They were ignored. Birx, he writes, relied on unreliable or outdated data to dictate “mitigation” measures. No one else was willing to confront her. The deadly results of useless lockdowns were not of interest. Who is Deborah Birx to have the power to destroy Americans’ livelihood and lives? Most of her work had concerned the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Both Birx and Redfield had been accused of misrepresenting their results on an HIV vaccine. Birx like the others is an appointed bureaucrat, with no accountability to voters. But their agencies are honeycombed with conflicts of interest. So, accountable they are—to private interests. The Narrative—there is no early treatment (except possibly monoclonal antibodies), just get vaccinated and you will be safe—might change, now that double-masked and quadruple-vaccinated Vice-President Kamala Harris has tested positive for COVID. She is getting Pfizer’s new oral drug Paxlovid™. Pfizer has begun running animated 30-second spots focusing on how fast COVID-19 moves. It features a narrator saying you can move fast, too, by “asking your healthcare provider if a new oral treatment could be right for you.” The ad doesn’t mention the name of the drug, as it is not yet approved but only has an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). A Pfizer logo pops up at the end of the spot along with a link to Pfizer’s COVID-19 website. Pfizer has so far spent $2.8 million on the commercial and expects to earn $22 billion from Paxlovid sales for 2022, paid for by taxpayers. What would happen if Twitter allowed compare-and-contrast information for Paxlovid vs. ivermectin, which share a common mechanism of action? Number of studies: 3 for Paxlovid, 82 for ivermectin; number of patients studied, about 5,000 vs. more than 129,000; duration of experience with use, months vs. decades (approved in 1987); number of patients who have taken drug, thousands vs. billions. This might be bad for Pfizer’s sales. Americans believe they have freedom, but freedom to seek knowledge is increasingly constrained. Combining government enforcement powers with private corporations’ wealth and immunity from Constitutional protections, the “public-private partnership” is a formula for medical tyranny. About Dr. Orient Jane M. Orient, M.D. obtained her undergraduate degrees in chemistry and mathematics from the University of Arizona in Tucson, and her M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1974. She completed an internal medicine residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital and University of Arizona Affiliated Hospitals and then became an Instructor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine and a staff physician at the Tucson Veterans Administration Hospital. She has been in solo private practice since 1981 and has served as Executive Director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) since 1989. - Understanding The Often-Complex Development Rules
Understanding The Often-Complex Development Rules By Hallandale Beach Mayor, Joy Cooper May 31, 2023 Share Recently our neighbors at Towers of Oceanview received a notice of a Community Meeting for a development taking place in Hollywood at the Diplomat Planned Development area. I was made aware of the meeting from the condominium president of the master association. At that time, I explained that the city nor I received the notice probably since it was a site plan meeting, not a land use meeting. The Diplomat Hotel was developed in early 2000. The beach and golf course at that time was purchased with money from the Pipefitter Pension Fund. The golf course property is in Hallandale Beach with some of the course in Hollywood. During the approvals in Hallandale Beach, we charged part of the land use from Commercial Recreational to a dash line hotel site to accommodate the Hotel, Conference Center, Spa, Tennis Center and Marina. The original site did have a hotel and golf course but was spread out not condensed into a small footprint. The total course was redone and upgraded. The hotel that is currently on the course was built. Units on Diplomat Parkway and along the water were torn down and the marina was added. Where the new Slate tower was added was always a separate parcel that was incorporated into the course to expand the golf holes. On the Hollywood side, everything was torn down and the Hotel was built with the parking garages across the street. This whole area was established as an entire development site with specific entitlements. At the writing of this article, I had yet to get the old records so for the sake of explanation I will call it a Local Activity Center. It may be a Planned Development District. Entitlements are what the developer can build on the land. It can be Commercial, Hotel, Hotel/Condo or Residential Condominium. The use is applied and then there are approvals for the number of units, types, and square footage of the commercial property. Once these rights are granted by the local authority, they cannot be taken away without the owner’s agreement. They by right are entitled. If a local planning agency attempts to reduce those rights, the owner has what is called a Bert J. Harris, Jr. Act and they can sue the government. Large scale plans like the Diplomat go through a rigorous approval process. First the city must review applications to be consistent with their Comprehensive Plan. Comprehensive Plans address all impacts of Water, Wastewater, Traffic, Transportation, Environmental, School, Housing, and other levels of services. If they cannot not meet these requirements they are either amended or not recommended by staff. Then the LPA holds hearings. It goes to multiple public hearings. In our case, we first require a community meeting then advisory board meeting then a commission hearing. After the first round of public hearings at the LPA level, the applications go to Broward County, South Florida Regional Planning Council then the state for review. It comes back and then finally adopted at two final hearings. Once these PDD’s or LAC’s are approved, the developer has rights to build. It then goes to site planning. The area can be built all at once or in phases. Each phase must go through site planning. These areas can be modified. In the case of the Diplomat Hotel back in 2019, Hollywood amended the land use. At this point in time, I am not certain if they simply changed the mix or amount of hotel-to-Hotel Condo and/or residential. The change was approved and went through the legal process and now the residential units are in front of the Hollywood LPA and Commission for approval. Our city requirement is different than it is with the city of Hollywood. Years ago when I was first elected, I had to learn all about the process. In doing so, I learned quickly that the most important component of the process was public notice and communication. I pushed to adopt the “Citizens Bill Of Rights” for land use. It expanded the notification process for all public hearings and added the community meeting component. Our distance for public notice for land use expanded to a mile. Zoning and Site changes also were expanded for 500 feet to 1,000 feet. In the case of the Diplomat, Hollywood was not required to notify our city or our commission. Adjacent property owners within 500 feet from a site plan is why only Towers of Oceanview, were the ones that were aware of the meeting. Our City Staff has been in touch with Hollywood. At this point, there will be a public meeting and if not two, I will keep our residents informed. There are two events coming up! This Saturday we will open Sunrise Park on June 3rd, 2023 at 10:00 am. Come out and join us at 416 Northeast 8th Avenue, Hallandale Beach, Florida 33009. Also, on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023, I will be delivering the State of the City Address at Gulfstream Park at 12:00 p.m. in the Flamingo Room.
