The American Jewish Congress salutes the leadership of President Donald J. Trump in executing Operation Midnight Hammer, a mission of historic scale and moral clarity; and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for unprecedented Israeli military strikes and coordination.
It was not an escalation. It was restoration of deterrence, of truth, and of international responsibility. Tehran used diplomacy as cover to accelerate its nuclear program, betting on the world’s hesitation. That illusion ended tonight. The United States has acted to protect its own interests and those of its partners: Israel, the Arab world, and beyond, by degrading the capabilities of a regime that thrives on violence and deception.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has waged a campaign of murder against Americans for four decades. Since the 1983 bombing in Beirut that killed 241 U.S. Marines, Tehran’s network of proxies and Revolutionary Guard operatives has been responsible for the deaths of over 1,000 American soldiers in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Afghanistan. Iran has plotted assassinations against U.S. officials and planned the October 7th invasion of Israel in a failed bid to derail historic Arab-Israeli reconciliation efforts supported by both Presidents Trump and Biden.
Today, President Trump reaffirmed the unbreakable bond between the United States and Israel and praised Israeli soldiers for helping advance American goals in the region. This is what principled power looks like: targeted, timely, and grounded in American interests.
We call on America’s political elite to set aside partisan reflexes, unite behind strength and clarity, and stand unequivocally with President Trump.
There is still work to be done: to verify how the Iranian regime deals with its enriched uranium stockpiles, and to secure a verifiable and permanent end to its pursuit of nuclear weapons. But for now, the world witnessed something rare: courage, clarity, and consequences. A new era has begun.
