Hallandale Beach Enhances Beach Safety With Narcan Training For Lifeguard

The City Of Hallandale Beach Has Expanded Its Beach Safety Capabilities By Equipping Lifeguards With Narcan, A Medication Used To Reverse Opioid Overdoses.

On March 6th, 2026, the city’s Beach Safety Team completed training on how and when to administer Narcan. With the training complete, all lifeguards are now equipped with the medication in their medical kits, patrol vehicles, and at Beach Safety headquarters.

Through a partnership with Beach Rescue, the Beach Safety Team received 40 boxes of nasal-delivery Narcan at no cost to the city. The supply ensures the medication is available across beach operations, allowing responders to act quickly in the event of a suspected opioid overdose.

Narcan, also known as Naloxone, has proven highly effective in reversing the effects of opioid overdoses when administered quickly. For many years, the medication was limited to use by emergency medical services and hospitals. As opioid overdoses have increased nationwide, Narcan has become more widely available and can now be obtained without a prescription.

The additional training and equipment strengthen the city’s ability to respond to medical emergencies and protect residents and visitors.

“The safety of our residents and visitors is always our top priority,” said William Fucci, District Fire Chief. “By ensuring our Beach Safety Team is trained and equipped with Narcan, we are better prepared to respond quickly and potentially save lives.”

The City of Hallandale Beach continues to work with public safety partners to enhance emergency preparedness and maintain a safe beach environment for the community and its visitors.
