World Renowned Pianists Come To Aventura

One of the most distinctive pianists of the younger generation dedicated to period instruments, Dmitry Ablogin of Russia

The Pandemic stopped the world of music in its tracks, but the Miami International Piano Festival is emerging this season inspired and stronger.

Celebrating the in-person reemergence of the Festival they open the season on October 17th in a grand fashion, offering the audience a night of beloved concertos by three compelling pianists, Kemal Gekic – Josu de Solaun – Pietro de Maria.

The format of the recitals offers the audience an unparalleled and illuminating experience. Each performance is preceded by a commentary on the programs presented by the artists, by their Lecturer in Residence, Professor Frank Cooper.

Six compelling pianists will be featured this season Dmitry Ablogin, Fabio Martino, Nikolay Khozyainov, Ilya Itin, Zlata Chochieva and Ariel Lanyi.

The Miami International Piano Festival presents one of the most distinctive pianists of the younger generation dedicated to period instruments, Dmitry Ablogin of Russia. Ablogin will perform classical works by Felix Mendelssohn, Nikolai Medtner and Franz Liszt. Ablogin perfected his in-depth classical piano training at Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow which lays the foundation of his work. He graduated cum laude and was awarded several first prizes, including the Nicolai Rubinstein Competition in Paris and at the “Germany Piano Open” competition in Hanover. Not suggested for children under 12 years of age.

The Miami International Piano Festival presents Fabio Martino in a program of works by Sergei Bortkiewcz, Carlos Guastavino, Nicolai Medtner and Hector Villa Lobos. This Brazilian pianist has won more than 20 international piano competitions, including the BNDES International Piano Competition, the most important contest in Latin America. Martino doesn’t only draw in the audience with his virtuoso playing; he also thrills them with his South American charm. As an international soloist Fabio Martino has played not only the well-known piano concertos by Prokofjew, Rachmaninov, Beethoven, Mozart, Schumann, Bartók and many others, but also the rarely played works by Villa-Lobos, Medtner, Guarnieri or Mignone, with equally success and enthusiasm from the audience. The Miami International Piano Festival presents 28 year old Russian sensation Nikolay Khozyainov with a Tribute To Chopin. Born in Blagoveshchensk in far eastern Russia, he made his debut at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory at age seven in a Handel piano concerto. He won first prize at the Dublin International Piano Competition, second prize at the Sydney International Piano Competition, and was a finalist at the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition. The New York Times reported, "The Music World is taking note of Nikolay Khozyainov's stunning virtuosity and prodigious technique.” Not suggested for children under 12 years of age.

Since capturing the Gold Medal, BBC Audience Award, and Contemporary Music Prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition, Ilya Itin has performed throughout the world to rave reviews and sold-out houses. The Miami International Piano Festival presents Itin in a program of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Partita No 6 in E minor, Rachmaninoff’s Etudes-Tableaux Op. 39 and Rachmaninoff’s arrangement of Bach’s Prelude, Gavotte and Gigue from Violin Partita No 3 in E major. Itin is equally at home playing music from Bach to Cage. He is on the teaching faculties of the Musashino Academy, Tokyo, the Graduate Program at CUNY, and the Golandsky Institute at Princeton and is a frequent guest teacher in the piano department at the Juilliard School and Peabody Conservatory. Not suggested for children under 12 years of age.

Miami International Piano Festival: Zlata Chochieva

Having first gained international attention with her highly-praised recordings of works by Chopin and Rachmaninov, Zlata Chochieva of Russia has established herself as a distinctive voice amongst pianists, possessing a deep affinity for these composers in particular. Hailed by Gramophone as “the possessor of a comprehensive technique who brings an inner glow to every bar.” Chochieva has performed solo recitals and with orchestras in major venues throughout the world. The Miami International Piano Festival presents Chochieva in a program of works by Bach, Schumann, Grieg and Brahms. Not suggested for children under 12 years of age.

Miami International Piano Festival: Ariel Lanyi

The Miami International Piano Festival season at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center culminates with Ariel Lanyi in a program of works by Schumann, Albéniz and Beethoven. Born in Jerusalem in 1997, Lanyi completed his studies earlier this year, receiving a full scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He has performed widely across Europe and regularly appears in concerts broadcast live on Israeli radio and television, as well as on Radio France. As soloist he has appeared with a variety of orchestras, including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, playing Brahms’s 2nd concerto, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, playing the Mozart C minor concerto. Not suggested for children under 12 years of age.

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts manages the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center, a 14,864-square-foot, 330-seat waterfront complex that hosts performing arts, cultural and educational programming for all ages.

Aventura Arts & Cultural Center has implemented a number of changes to ensure an enjoyable experience. Health & safety guidelines have been developed in conjunction with its management company, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, and in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic and have been informed by guidance of public health officials including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). These guidelines will be continuing to evolve as the environment changes, and may be accessed on the venue’s website.
