Attention Aventura Residents - No Swim Advisory Issued for Little Maule Lake And The Surrounding Areas

October 21, 2021

The No-Swim advisory also informs people to avoid other water recreational activities such as fishing and boating at Little Maule Lake and the surrounding surface waters

Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) crews have isolated a broken 12-inch wastewater pipe and stopped the leak located near 1000 Island Boulevard. The pipe break resulted in an unpermitted discharge of approximately 10,000 gallons to Little Maule Lake and the surrounding surface waters.

As a result, it is advised that the public avoid contact with the water in the following areas: Northeast 183rd Street to the north, Oleta River State Park Beach to the south, Biscayne Boulevard to the west and the Intracoastal Waterway to the east. Greynolds Park is also within the affected area.

The No-Swim advisory also informs people to avoid other water recreational activities such as fishing and boating.

Miami-Dade County is committed to expediting the replacement and repair of the aging infrastructure to protect the health of the Bay, our clean water and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the public. The department is currently undertaking a capital project to replace the impacted pipelines in this area. In fact, a portion of the newly installed pipe is being put into service tonight to aid in the repair process by rerouting the flows away from the break site.

The project was initiated in 2021 and with a total investment of nearly $4 Million, it is expected to be completed in April 2022.

The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County and the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources will test the posted waters and the advisory remains in effect until two consecutive days of clear testing occur after all of the repairs are completed. We will continue to communicate with the public until the advisory has been lifted.

It is the priority of the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department to provide safe, reliable service to its customers. For additional information about Department services and programs, visit the WASD web-site at: https://www.miamidade.gov/global/water/home.page
