Jewish Connection News

May 2, 2025

In The Wake Of The Supreme Court’s 2022 Decision To Overturn Roe v. Wade, The National Conversation Around Reproductive Rights Has Become More Urgent—And More Personal—Than Ever. Communities Across The Country Are Grappling With The Fallout, Especially In States Where Access To Reproductive Healthcare Has Rapidly Diminished. But Even In This Uncertain Landscape, Hope And Action Are Rising. One Event In Miami Is Poised To Shine A Powerful Light On The Path Forward.

On Wednesday, May 14th, 2025, the Jewish Fertility Foundation–South Florida (JFF-SFL) will host a pivotal in-person event, A Post-Roe World. Held in downtown Miami and open to the public, this evening gathering promises to be more than just a panel discussion—it’s a call to action.

Bringing Together Experts, Advocates and Allies

Sponsored by the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and presented in partnership with the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), this event will offer attendees an inside look at the multi-faceted fight for reproductive freedom. A diverse panel of legal experts, medical professionals, faith leaders and advocates will explore the most pressing issues facing reproductive healthcare today—and offer tangible strategies for advocacy and change.

Among the panelists are:

Marla Neufeld, Esq., a surrogacy and assisted reproduction attorney, who will speak to the evolving legal barriers facing intended parents and fertility professionals post - Roe.

Laura Lee Rodriguez, Florida State Policy Advocate for NCJW, who brings deep knowledge of grassroots mobilization and legislative advocacy.

Elizabeth Schwartz, Esq., a trailblazer in adoption and reproductive law, known for her fierce commitment to family rights.

Dr. Vanessa Weitzman, a reproductive endocrinologist, who will provide critical medical insight.

Rabbi Jessica Jacobs of Temple Beth Sholom, who will share the Jewish ethical framework supporting reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy.

Julie Cohen, JFF’s Senior Manager, who will offer a personal perspective on reproductive access challenges.

More Than Policy: It’s Personal

What makes this event especially powerful is its focus on storytelling and lived experience. Attendees will hear firsthand how real people’s lives—and futures—have been shaped by policies passed in faraway courtrooms and statehouses. The event aims to humanize the issue, giving voice to those who have navigated the complex, and often heartbreaking, world of reproductive healthcare in a post-Roe America.

From fertility treatments halted due to legal confusion to delayed medical interventions during pregnancy complications, the consequences of restrictive laws are no longer theoretical—they're happening now. The evening will serve as both an educational forum and a space for community healing and empowerment.

Participants will leave with more than inspiration — they’ll gain tools for action. The event promises to outline clear, impactful advocacy strategies tailored for individuals, families, and community leaders. Whether it’s contacting legislators, supporting local clinics, or joining faith-based advocacy efforts, every attendee will walk away with actionable steps to take back into their communities.

The conversation will also highlight the unique perspective and role of the Jewish community in the reproductive rights movement. Grounded in Jewish values of compassion, justice, and dignity, many Jewish organizations have long been at the forefront of defending reproductive freedom. This event continues that tradition by bridging faith and activism in meaningful, modern ways.

Why Now, Why Here?

Florida is currently a battleground state when it comes to reproductive rights. With changing laws, ongoing court battles, and a deeply divided political climate, events like this serve as critical organizing points for advocacy and awareness. Miami, with its vibrant, diverse population and strong Jewish community, is the perfect backdrop for such a vital conversation.

This event is free and open to anyone in the South Florida area. Light snacks and beverages will be provided, and the exact downtown Miami location will be shared with registrants one week prior.
