Celebrate Hollywood's History: At The Liberia 100th Anniversary Celebration This Weekend

The Liberia neighborhood in the City of Hollywood is turning 100 and all are welcome to join in the weekend of celebration! The Libera 100 Celebration kicks off on Friday, November 3rd at 6:00 p.m. with a neighborhood reunion at Attucks Middle School, 3500 North 22nd Avenue. The free event will include a screening of the film "Stories From Our Ancestors - An Ode to Attucks High School" and panel discussion led by filmmaker and oral historian Emmanuel George. Light refreshments will be served.
The Libera 100 Celebration continues Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. with a parade through the Libera community, followed by a festive fun day from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 2400 Charleston Street. All are encouraged to line the parade route that runs south on J. A. Ely Boulevard and Meade Street, west on Atlanta Street to Northwest 24th Avenue then north to the MLK Center. The parade will include local high school bands, dance teams, youth and civic organizations, church groups, state and local elected leaders, decorated floats, the Hollywood Police Department, Hollywood Fire Rescue and Beach Safety personnel and equipment and more. Parade Grand Marshalls include District 2 City Commissioner Linda Hill Anderson and Libera Civic Leader Mr. Henry Graham. Fun Day festivities will include kids’ activities, bounce houses, face painting, and entertainment on the lawn. Admission is free, food will be available for purchase.

The Libera 100 Celebration concludes on Sunday morning with a nondenominational community worship service. Hosted by the United Churches of Liberia, the worship service is taking place at the Attucks Middle School auditorium from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Admission is free, all are welcome to attend.
The Liberia 100 Centennial Celebration is presented by the City of Hollywood, Liberia Civic Association, Attucks High School Alumni Association, Inc., Hollywood Eagles Youth Development, Liberia Economic & Social Development Inc., and United Churches of Liberia.

Limited on-street parking, attendees are encouraged to observe all event parking restrictions and avoid parking on private property or blocking private driveways.
Hollywood West Salsa Fest
Join Melina Almadovar, Saturday, November 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with her live orchestra for an exciting night of live entertainment at the Boulevard Heights Community Center Amphitheater, 6770 Garfield Street. The event is presented by Salsa Festival International and the City of Hollywood. Admission is free.
