North Miami BrewFest: Turning Double Digits and Celebrating Its 10th Anniversary

November 8, 2022

The North Miami BrewFest is back and it's celebrating a milestone, its 10th Anniversary. This one-day festival is where the best Florida craft brews are paired with gourmet offerings; the event also features engaging craft beer seminars, live music, and activities. What makes the North Miami Brewfest a one-of-a-kind event is that all beer and food bites are included in the price of the ticket.

Like I said, this year marks the 10th anniversary of the festival, which began at the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Florida International University. Back then, the event was student-led and started to showcase the best brews from FIU's Brew Science program, alongside the industry's emerging talent.

Today, about two thousand people gather to taste more than 150 one-of-a-kind beers and bites from the area's most distinguished craft breweries and restaurants. The mission continues to be to contribute to brewing science education and innovation for the craft brew industry, brewpubs and homebrew organizations.

For the past five festivals, the city of North Miami has been the festival’s title partner. This year over 75 South Florida brewers and local eateries will come together to unveil their delicious offerings for the event’s 10th anniversary and students from FIU and its new event management student club, Back of House, will be helping organizers run the event.

One of South Florida's most popular breweries, Funky Buddha, was among the first to announce it will be sharing its creative ales during the event. Other Miami favorite breweries such as: The Tank, Beat Culture Brewing, and Cerveceria La Tropical also will be pouring at the event. They and many others will be crafting and unveiling unique brews especially for the event’s 10th anniversary.

South Florida favorite restaurants like “Kush”, by the Kush Hospitality Group will be serving their famous croquetas and pork tacos, Night Owl Cookies will be offering their freshly baked cookies in fun flavors, and Startup FIU favorite Frice Cream will dish out a beer-infused ice cream.

The North Miami BrewFest event will happen rain or shine! All tickets are non-refundable and available for sale on the North Miami BrewFest website at www.northmiamibrewfest.com and on-street parking is free. The Main Entrance and Registration are at the corner of NE 7th Avenue and NE 124the Street. Outside food and drinks are prohibited at the event, but your are in luck, your ticket price includes all food and beverage samples.

BrewFest is an adults only event, absolutely no one below the age of 21 is allowed, including infants and toddlers. No pets either, unless they are service animals.

It's North Miami BrewFest's mission to contribute to brewing science education and innovation for the craft brew industry, brewpubs and homebrew organizations. The event includes several educational seminars delivered by faculty and top industry experts such as Ami Parrino.

Ami is a Microbiologist and Advanced Cicerone with six years in the brewing industry. She is a beer judge and is Siebel Institute sensory trained. She offers classes on beer and food pairing and works with local breweries to curate their menu pairing options. Look for signs at the event to join Ami and learn about perfectly pairing great craft beer and delicious cuisine for a spectacular taste experience. She is in the process of writing a book on beer and food pairing culture around the world.

Whether you favor Hazys, Hefes, Pales, Pilsners, Saisons or Sours these experts will share unparalleled expertise and a passion for brewing and the science behind it. So besides a great day of sampling brews from across the area, you get to learn all the effort put into making each of them.

The North Miami BrewFest began as a student project led by hospitality management students at the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management at FIU. Proceeds from the North Miami BrewFest support the FIU Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management and its Brewing Science program.
