Lend Your Support: Proposed Traffic Calming And Bicycle/Pedestrian Improvement Projects In Hollywood

The City of Hollywood is applying to the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Cycle 8, Complete Streets And Other Localized Initiative Program (CSLIP) for two Traffic Calming And Bicycle/Pedestrian Improvement Projects. The 2024 Cycle 8 CSLIP Project Application Window is currently open and successful applications must demonstrate “community support” for the proposed projects. The projects identified are as follows:

Polk Street Traffic Calming Project from North 26th Avenue to Dixie Highway will consist of repurposing one Vehicle Lane to slow down Traffic. The re-purposed lane will be re-configured into either one Bi-Directional Buffered Bicycle Lane (Option A) or two Multi-Purpose Trails (Option B). The project will also include: Improved Sidewalks, Crosswalks, ADA Upgrades and New Landscaping.

West Park Road Traffic Calming Project between North Park Road and North 56th Avenue will consist of repurposing one Eastbound/Westbound Lane to slow down Traffic. The re-purposed lanes will be reconfigured into Buffered Bicycle Lanes, Improved Sidewalks and Crosswalks, ADA Upgrades, Median Improvements and New Landscaping.

The goal of these Projects is to Reduce Vehicular Traffic Speeds and Improve Overall Corridor Safety. The City is offering a number of online options where you can lend your support for the projects:

PROJECT DETAILS
Up to $3 Million in Funding is available for the Construction Phase of each Project as part of the Cycle 8 CSLIP, administered by the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization. The application is due on October 2, 2023, with Funding to be determined between September and October of 2024. If awarded, Funding will become available in 2029 for Design and Construction would begin in 2030.

Operation Paintbrush
The City of Hollywood Department of Public Works is holding Operation Paintbrush this Saturday, August 5th, 2023 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Noon. Operation Paintbrush provides up to 20 Gallons of High-Quality Exterior Latex Paint for FREE to Single-Family Homeowners and Non-Profit Organizations in Hollywood. 100% of the Latex Paint collected through the Broward County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program is Recycled into New, High-Quality Exterior Paint which is then provided to participating cities at no cost. Paint can be picked up at the Department of Public Works, 1600 South Park Road, Hollywood, Florida 33021 beginning at 8:00 a.m. Distribution is on a first-come, first-served basis while the City's supply lasts. To participate, you must provide your current Driver’s License with Hollywood address and a current Utility Bill as Proof of Hollywood Residency. The Paint colors offered are: Off-White, Beige, Terracotta, Gray and Turquoise.
