Israel Is Under Attack

I, like many of our friends and neighbors, have been watching in disbelief over the horrific events taking place in Israel. Two years ago, this week, I had the great fortune to visit this beautiful resilient country with my husband and my dear friends. It was the second time I had been there. Many people who have not visited Israel do not realize how small this powerful State is. You can travel and see the whole country in days.
Tuesday we held a meeting to approve a vigil for those killed, kidnapped and fighting against Hamas Terrorists. While we sat at home watching TV, I shared how close everyone lives to each other. How close towns are. The bombs we see are like standing on Golden Isles Drive and watching a bomb go off on A1A in Golden Beach.
It is so heart wrenching, paralyzing as well as angering. We and the entire world should be rallying for Israel. We all need to stand up against hate. Those cheering and chanting for PLO and Hamas are just as barbaric. This to me is Hate Speech and does not represent our American values. Just as bad as Nazis. Israel has been occupied over and over again. They have fought to regain Jerusalem which had been taken from them 1000’s of years ago. It is their homeland. They have worked towards peace while sacrificing their security. This has just become very evident through this attack.
What everyone must know is that Israel has been living in peace and restraint for over 50 years. Even though their enemies are at the gates they always have helped anyone that is injured. They live helping others and have lived side by side with Christians and Muslims alike over these years. Not all peaceful but with compassion and again with restraint Hamas wants to kill every Jew. Their Jihad came to America in 9/11 so the issue is when will they be coming after the rest of the Christians and Muslims that do not bow to their twisted beliefs?
Israel is an amazing place. It thrives in the desert surrounded by many enemies. They have built a country through grit, determination and ingenuity. They have created many breakthroughs in many industries, technology, farming, health and engineering to name a few.
What is truly eye opening is the surrounding countries have not invested in their countries and people. They have been ruled by oppressive government regimes. This I think further fuels the hatred. Combined with the corrupt manipulation of religion, Gaza has been even built with the help of Israel, yet Hamas continues to even use their own citizens as shields and now have unleashed war.
Saudi Arabia and other surrounding countries are seeing they need to modernize. The days of being solely dependent on oil and the wealth it brings with the lack of investment to help their economy have begun to change. Changes in government education and other social issues for all their citizens, men and women alike, are starting to take place. It will continue to evolve. The Abraham Accords have taken root. Relations will never be perfect but have come a long way. Gaza and places like Iran and Afghanistan are breeding grounds for this kind of hate.
We need to remember; this is not a religious war, it is Terrorism! Just like any gang fueled by leaders exploiting humans through illegal activities of guns, human trafficking and brutality. The goal is to gain mental and physical control over the countries for wealth and power.
We are all heartbroken. We can all do our part. Speak out online against hate. Stand up against those supporting this barbarism. Tell Congress to do all they can to support Israel! Support Israel’s Relief Efforts! There are so many, Jewish Federation, ADL, Hadassah just to name a few. We do not know how or when this will unfold. I pray that they can rid the country of Hamas with swiftness and precision.
I want to thank our City Manager, Dr. Jermey Earle, Chief Michel Michel, our entire City Staff and Vice Mayor Anabelle Lima-Taub, Commissioner Adams for making the meeting and Commissioners Lazarow and Butler who have shared their support to unite as a City and encourage all our residents to support Israel!
